Chp. 1

***Zairen***

"Honey get up or you're going to be late for school," my mother banged on my door then leaving once satisfied I heard her.

Groaning I stretched my body out, accidentally slipping off the edge of my bed letting myself hit the floor. "Ouch," this is the start of a great day.

Deciding to shower the pain away, I went to the bathroom to get ready.

My last year of highschool. I never thought I would see the day. The years have been so short, yet so long and annoying. Essay's, fight's, teacher's, other student's, the principal, you get where I'm going here.

After drying off I settled with my grey sweater with the number '14' on it, and a pair of black jeans. I have literally nobody to impress at school, so why get dressed up in all the new stuff I bought over summer. I'm saving those for the 'back to school' parties.

And just because I don't want to ruin my brand new shoes, Nike slides is the best option right now.

"Honey, you're late!"

I rolled my eyes grabbing my bookbag and heading downstairs. Speed walking to the kitchen I saw my mom cooking a big breakfast. "Yes, my mom loves me after all." She giggled.

"Actually this is for your father and I, you woke up too late. Take two waffles and get to school, I don't need them calling to tell me you where late to your first class."

I gave her a kiss on her cheek and took two waffles in my hand. God that's hot, putting on in my mouth was a better way. Taking my keys with my free hand I mumbled a faint 'I love you' to my mom before I closed the door. Driving to school with a waffle in my mouth, I got a lot of stares from other drivers.

Everybody has seen a person trying to eat waffles, dance to music, and speed to school, so I don't know what was so weird.

I'm actually very excited for today. Rae, my bestfriend since I was a kid, left me during summer to go with her family on a trip to the mountains .

Sadly I couldn't go so I just had to wait 'til she came back, which is today. I'm so happy, the time apart from her did give me a chance to change but I do miss her.

I walked to the cafeteria, after parking my car, to try to get some more breakfast to eat before class. Hearing my stomach grumble, I regret not waking up early for breakfast. All the things they usually have aren't even edible. I see why half of this stuff here is free.

Placing my earbuds in, I hit shuffle and started listening. It surprises me how many kids actually wait in line for this food.

Unsatisfied with the song I kept scrolling to find one I would be in the mood for. Yes, it defeats the purpose of the shuffle button but who cares.

In the mist of my song frustration I felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist.

"You know Z, the point of shuffle is to get a diversity of songs. You're going to freeze the app clicking the next button so fast." My heart jumped as I turned around.

"Rae!" I pulled her into a hug as she laughed. We got a few stares but who cares. I haven't seen her for three months.

"Well hello to you too," I tightened the hug.

"I missed you so much Rae." Letting go of her she took a dramatic deep breath in. Indicating that I was suffocating her.

"Ok, maybe not as much." She punched my shoulder offended. I just gave her a smile. "So how was the trip?"

"It's so beautiful up there, I really wish you could've came with me." she groaned.

" I wish I could've too, but you know how my mom is," I rolled my eyes.

Sooner or later the line shorted out and we got our food. As we walked to class she told me about everything they did up there. And I really wish that I went.

Stupid passport requirements. We reached the hallway to see what our first period was. Luckily we had the same teacher.

As we entered the classroom we took our seats. "I swear it was cold as fuck up there."

I laughed, " Aw, did you at least get to see snow?"

"We got snowed in for three days while we where there, I never loved hot cocoa so much in my entire life," she giggled.

"Alright class, settle down."

Everyone took there seats, being that it's everyone's last year, we wanted to make this as least complicated as possible.

"You guys have been through this three times already, so I'm going to cut you guys some slack and just give you your schedules."

When the paper hit Rae and I's desk we automatically started comparing them.

We had first, third, fourth, and sixth period together this year. At least I get to see her more. Then for the rest of the class we just talked about our summer, when we started to have the conversation I dreaded the most.

"So you got a new girlfriend yet," she asked wiggling her eyebrows to add the effect. I couldn't help but laugh.

"Nope," I giggled.

Sucking in the air through her teeth, she threw her arms up dramatically. "Come on Z, I can't let my bestfriend go another year alone."

"I just never found anybody interesting," I shrugged.

She pointed a finger at me, " We're finding you a girlfriend this year. Whether you like it or not."

Rae continued to go on about the girls she knew in school that would be perfect for me to date. The entire time I was just staring at her.

The 'friend' written on her half hearted bestfriend necklace, added a hurtful feeling to my heart. A bestfriend is all she may ever be to me.

Rae is so amazing, and I trust her with my life. She always made me feel like I could tell her anything and everything. But I can't tell her how I feel about her. Even through all the laughs and tickle fights we have, she is more straight than anything.

The only thing I can do is innocently flirt with her and of course she takes it as a joke. As much as it hurts I would rather that than us have an awkward relationship.

The bell rung and we both got up from out seats. "See you in third period Z," She winked at me and my heart fluttered.

"See you." I swear I'm a hopeless romantic.

I walked into my next class still taking everything in. Finding a seat in the back of the room I took it for a bit of privacy.

Needing to clear my mind from everything, I started to doodle in my art book. I feel so stupid, thinking Rae and I being apart for a few months could at least calm the feeling I had. Yet, I like her even more now.

I didn't expect her to change so much over summer, but she did.

Her now short hair made her look older. Replacing her glasses with contacts caused her eyes to grow brighter, even though I didn't mind the cute nerdy look she had with them on.

Minus the braces and add a red belly button ring visible from her pink crop top she wore today.

My favorite part of all is the cute little freckles on the bridge of her nose that spread to her cheeks.

"Pardon me, is this seat taken?" she asked. Her blue eyes stared at me hopefully as her brown hair cascaded over her shoulders.

"I'm sorry. No, its a free seat," placing my things on the ground, she sat down.

"Thank you. My name is Sania, but my friends and family call me Nia," she extended her hand to me with a polite smile on her face.

"Zairen, but you can call me Z," I smiled shaking her hand back. I turned forward and went back to sketching.

"So what are you drawing?" she asked peeking over my arm a bit.

Honestly, I had no clue. Looking at the tan paper I found the lines forming Rae's perfect jaw and soft lips.

"It's a bunny."

Closing the book I placed it back in my backpack.

The lesson started as she only explained what we would be learning and left the rest of the class time to us.

A light tap on my shoulder caused me to turn around and face the girl next to me.

"Hey, can you show me where my next few classes are? I just transferred here."

I took the white piece of paper from her hands and scanned over it.

It was no surprise we had five classes together. There aren't a lot of teachers who taught senior courses.

"Just follow me for the next three classes and I can show you to your sixth."

I handed her the paper back, taking my bag over my shoulder.

She knodded and gathered her things as well.

As we exited the classroom, I took the chance to tell her a bit about the school.

"The entire school is set up by building numbers and class subjects."

I pointed towards the cemented tower behind us.

"That's the eighteen hundred building which is for the subject science. The building we just left if the sixteen hundred building, which of course is history."

She knodded, soaking in all the information I was giving on the way to our next class.

Entering the door my eyes caught Rae's immediately. She smiled and waved us to the back of the room with empty seats next to her.

"Hey, come on."

Taking the seat next to RJ, Nia took the seat next to me.

"RJ this is Nia, and Nia this is my bestfriend RJ."

"Nice to meet you."

Rae shook Sania's hand and exchanged a polite smile.

The teacher appeared infront of the class for the third time today. You could tell he was visible tired of repeating the same thing over.

" My name is Mr. Felix, and I don't want to be here no more than you do so, have a free day while I take a nap."

He dragged his feet back over to his desk, burying his face in his arms.

I have no clue how he got hired here actually, he was pretty well know for doing this on a daily basis.

A lot of people fought to have his class to make their year easier.

"So Nia, where are you from?"

Rae used her arm to support her head as she focused her attention on the new girl.

"I'm from England. My parents wanted me to have the American experience, so I'm staying here with a close relative of mine. What about you two?"

RJ waisted no time in answering that question. She loved telling people our story of being life long bestfriends. I guess it was her way of reliving it.

"Zairen and I have been bestfriends for five years, and I have spent three of those years trying to find her a new girlfriend."

She watched me roll my eyes while they both giggled.

"Why hasn't she, I don't see a problem?"

Nia questioned causing my bestfriend to scoff.

" I know right, she is beautiful and she has a nice body since she plays flag football."

My face blushed red while I tried to ignore the compliments flowing from both of their mouths.

Being on the team has caused girls to show me a lot of special attention because of my body.

Yet, most of them are just curious girls trying to check 'had lesbian sex' off of their bucket list before college.

Plus, I guess Rae had been my only interest.

Don't get me wrong, I have had my fair share of girls. But relationships never crossed my mind after I realized my feelings for my bestfriend.

"Maybe she will fine one soon."

I couldn't help but look at Nia sending me a warm smile.

Is she flirting with me?
