Part 17

*Right when you think that Sebby can't get anymore attractive, he does. That man tho. (Le swoon)*

Bucky, Steve, Sam, and Scott finished preparing for the mission, and Bucky was anxious for the upcoming rescue. James running around and getting under his feet didn't help the process much, either.

"I am a big boy. I am helping. I AM A BIG BOY. I AM HELPING!" James chanted as he followed everyone around. He even insisted on helping to load the quinjet. When he started to chant, "I'm gonna help. I'm gonna get momma," Bucky had had enough. He stopped James, who had been running around (curse Thor for giving him that poptart) and kneeled down.

"James, buddy, you remember that you are staying here, and Papa,Uncle Steve, Mr. Sam, and Mr. Scott are rescuing Mama, right?" James nodded his head enthusiastically.

"And me!" Bucky shook his head.

"No, James." He tried a more serious tone. "You are staying here with..." he trailed off. Who was James going to stay with? He hadn't thought about that. He had been so busy planning the mission and telling James that he wasn't going that he never thought about who James would be staying with. "Hey, Steve?" He called over his shoulder.

"Yep." said Steve from across the room where he had been speaking to Sam.

"Who will be here while we are gone since Clint and Thor are gone?" asked Bucky trying his best to remember.

"Well, practically no one since Tony, Clint, and Thor all left for a sudden mission this morning, as you know. Nat is gone, so that leaves Bruce." Bucky nodded feeling happy again. Sam, getting a text from Scott, left the room.

"Bruce is good. Ok, this will work." He turned to James. "Guess what, Jamesy? You will get to stay here with Mr. Bruce! Doesn't that sound fun? I sure wish that I could stay here with Mr. Bruce. You are so lucky!" James started to walk away.

"You stay. I go." Bucky gave an exasperated sigh.

"Steeeevvvveeeeee." Bucky whined. "Tell my son that he can't go. Put your foot down. You aren't his blood, and that way he won't hate me forever." He said as he collapsed to the floor melodramatically. Steve just rolled his eyes.

"Buck, you have to put your foot down." Steve looked over at James. "James." James looked at him. "You aren't going on the rescue mission, and that is final." Apparently Steve had no prior knowledge of James' tantrums. I would like to state that after the following events Steve was always slightly scared.

"I AM GOING. I AM HELPING. PAPA. PAPA. I AM GOING. I'M TO SAVE MAMA. PAPA. UNCLE STEVE IS WRONG. BAD UNCLE STEVE. (Also, your son had a lisp on the letter "v", so it came out as "BAD UNCLE STEEB.")

While James was crying his head off and running around screaming, Bucky crawled his way over to a couch and grabbed a pillow to muffle the banshee screams that were coming out of your son. Steve stood there with wide eyes questioning what to do. Should he run? Should he yell too? He wasn't sure. After about twenty minutes, James calmed down when he got distracted by the entrance of Sam and Scott into the room.

"Thank you." Moaned Bucky from the floor where he still lay clutching the pillow to his head. Steve had settled into a position on the couch where he just looked off into the middle distance. "Steve, he stopped." Said Bucky as he got up and stretched his aching muscles. Steve made no movement. "STEVE." He jumped and blinked rappidly.

"I'm sorry. It seems that I went into some meditative state where I zoned out entirely. Please tell me that it hadn't been 70 years since I was last responsive." He said looking pleasingly up at Bucky who had walked over to him.

"No, buddy, your fine, I think. Do you feel better now?" Steve slowly nodded his head.

"Yeah, let's do this thing. I assume that's why Sam and Scott are here?" Steve and Bucky looked over at Sam and Scott who were walking towards them.

"That's exactly why we are here. Everything is ready, that we know of. We're waiting on you two now." Bucky helped Steve up, they looked at each other. Bucky glanced down at the floor.

"Now that it is time to do this, I'm scared." He said.

"Why are you scared, Buck?" Asked Steve.

"I don't want it to go wrong, but I can't let her stay there either. I'm just scared that there will be terrible consequences if even the smallest action doesn't go correctly." He responded. Steve patted him on the back.

"We're here for you, Buck. Everything is going to go just as we have planned it. You need to believe that and stop worrying. Bucky nodded.

"OK, then. I'm ready."

------------------------------------------

It was finally time to rescue you. The "rescue squad" all boarded the quinjet after Bucky left James with Bruce.

"You be a good boy, James. I'll be back soon with your mama." James tried to protest, but Bucky was firm with him. "No, James. I won't say it again. You are staying here, and that is final. I want you to be safe. We'll all be back soon." He turned to Bruce. "Thanks, Bruce. I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't been here."

"It's no problem. I'm sure that James and I will have a great time." Steve walked over to where the three of them stood.

"Remember, Bruce, if you feel a code green coming on..." Bruce cut him off.

"I know. I call Agent Hill and have Jarvis supervise James while I go to my containment cell." Steve nodded. "I hope the mission goes well. Hopefully you will all be back soon with (Y/N)." Steve and Bucky nodded. Then Bucky crouched down next to James.

"Be good, Slugger. I love you." He then kissed James' forehead.

"I 'wove you two, Papa." Bucky smiled and turned to Steve.

"Let's do this." So, Bucky and Steve headed to the quinjet where Sam and Scott were already going through the preflight checklist. It wasn't long before they were finished. Everyone got onto the quinjet, and Sam closed the door. Scott then started the ship, and they were off.

-----------------------------------------

A few hours later when they were almost to the Hydra fortress, Steve spoke up in the silence that filled the quinjet.

"Penny for your thoughts." He said to Bucky.

"Well, I'm so glad that James finally gave in to staying at the tower. His mother would have killed me if he had come along." Steve nodded and smiled.

"I can't wait until she's back." Bucky nodded his head.

"Believe me, I feel the same way, but I need her back even more. She completes me. I don't know where I would be without her in my life. Love is crazy like that. You are fine before you find the one for you. You don't think about the constant feeling of eventually having someone be so important to you, but then, you have that moment when you see them from the first time, and you're life is immediately changed. You always feel like you have a hole in your heart when they aren't with you. Even through all of my years of torture, I always still had that feeling. Maybe that's why I was such a good target for Hydra. Since I was a soldier and didn't have her near me, that hole was open, so they used me and filled that hole with hatred and killing." Bucky became silent for a moment before speaking again. "But that is all behind me. We are going to rescue (Y/N), and bring her home. I will once again have the hole in my heart filled, and James will have his mother back. It will be perfect."

"We're here." Scott said as Sam was landing the quinjet. Bucky looked over at Steve and nodded to him.

"Time to get my wife."
