Rosa's POV

*

"Sir, please allow us do our job-"

"You're fired. Drake, attend to her." Gonzalo ordered and I groaned in discomfort.

I was put on a stretcher and wheeled past the hallway. Gonzalo didn't let go of my hand, his expression tight and dark to show how angry he was.

My whole body ached and my face hurt the most. Every expression took great effort to make.

The nurse pleaded but her voice slowly faded as I heard Gonzalo shouting my name and something like a bowl of instruments falling and scattering around.

My head ached and I struggled to keep my eyes open but it was just impossible.

"Jim, fly to Spain right fucking now and get aunt Jane and Uncle Theo. They are the foundation of all this nonsense and they're the only ones that can stop it!" He barked and I felt my heartbeat skip a few times.

I couldn't breathe.

His words swirled in my head and I kept thinking about those names. I thought it was a coincidence when he mentioned them on our first date and said the man got into an accident.

A gasp escaped my lips. Did dad get into an accident? How was he? My eyes blurred as the headache increased, my breaths coming out in shallow pants.

Aunt Jane and uncle Theo.

Who were they to Gonzalo?

How did he know them?

Was meeting him even a coincidence?

What exactly is going on?!

Gonzalo's POV

*

I paced outside the ward.

What was taking them so long? I stopped at the door and stared through the transparent glass at Drake, my personal doctor and two nurses who were attending to Rosa.

She was fine when I brought her here, a bit weak with her nose covered in what was left of the blood I'd cleaned off.

But then she suddenly started gasping for breath seconds before she was rushed into the emergency ward.

I picked my phone and dialed Romeo's number while my bodyguards took their positions around the hospital.

"We're on our way to the Alpha warehouse." Romeo stated.

"Make sure you're not being followed. Also, contact my parents and let them know what he has done. Leave no detail out." I ordered.

"Copy boss."

I kept my phone and raked a hand through my hair.

Today would've been perfect for us.

With the date and the seduction I'd planned for her. For us. To make her one with me by the end of the night.

But we ended up in a hospital instead. All because of him.

I dialed a number and the person picked after a few rings.

"I need your help."

"The kind of words I love to hear from my partner in crime. What is it? Did someone touch your gem, because I know you have too much pride to ever ask anyone for help or involve someone else in your issues."

"You talk too much April, that has always been my problem with you. I want you to help me end someone."

"Smooth end or the messy kind? And who?"

"My older brother." I grunted the term in disdain.

"Ten million and we'll do it on my terms."

"N-"

"I have unfinished business with the bastard. Just consider him out of your hair."

"Swear the oath." I narrowed my eyes at the painting of a smiling man, wondering what a the portrait of a grey haired smiling man was doing so close to my girlfriend's emergency ward.

"I swear it on Luciano Morello, the capo di tutti capi. I'll pay with my life if I can't get him off you by New Year or latest by January."

Relief spread through me at her words. It would be painful to lose such a skilled assassin if things didn't go as she had planned but she would indeed have to get rid of the enemy as promised. Or she would pay with her life because our common enemy would probably not spare her.

A promise was a debt, especially when sworn on Luciano Morello, the god among us men.

I ended the call and sat on a chair, in hopes that I would be able to calm myself a bit.

It didn't work and I got up to stand by the door while watching them work on her. My bodyguards stood in their different positions, with two at the door, two at the hospital entrance, two at the entrance of the hallway and two behind me.

Two hours and exactly twenty eight minutes later, Drake exited the ward, taking off his gloves and dabbing his face.

"How is she?"

He kept his handkerchief in his coat pocket. "She's stable for now, but we'll have to keep her under strict watch throughout the night. Why don't you get some rest? It's close to midnight."

"I'll stay here till she gets conscious."

"Your body also suffered some injuries, you need to stitch your lower lip and your temple. And you should take some pills too. I'll have my nurse deliver it right away. I'll advise you to rest while she's doing the same so you won't make her worry about you when she regains her consciousness." He advised and I nodded so he'd stop talking.

"Can I stay with her?" I raised a brow as if daring him to reject me.

"You can. But I'll get another bed wheeled in. You however, can't disturb the patient as she's still not back to a full state of consciousness."

"Do that." I stated in a clipped tone and opened the door of the room, slowing my steps when I heard the sound of the heart monitor.

Rosa's forehead had been carefully cleaned and wrapped. There was a plaster on the bridge of her nose and another below her chin.

I picked her hand and sighed.

A nurse came in, holding a white nylon.

"Good evening Mr Rodriguez."

"Hmm?" I grunted, clearly displeased. I didn't want any interruptions between me and Rosa.

"Please we'll have to excuse the patient in order to stitch you up. You could always come here ASAP and stay with her. A bed is being wheeled here as I speak." The petite nurse told me warmly, her voice wavering a little due to my cold stare on her.

I nodded and followed her down the hall where she stitched me up in a VIP ward. As soon as she was through, I strode out of the room and went back into Rosa's emergency ward, where a bed had been placed a bit close to hers and a pillow and blanket laid.

I got on it and faced Rosa, staring at her chest as it rose and fell faintly and it was in this position that I drifted off to a dreamless slumber.

I woke up at past four at dawn to the ringing of my phone.

"Yes?" I growled harshly and my eyes went to rest on Rosa.

"They're not here boss, they're gone." Jim reported about aunt Jane and Uncle Theo, Rosa's parents whom I'd told him to bring over here by all means.

"When last were they seen at their home?"

"Two days ago. The wife was seen wheeling the husband away, then few hours later, some men came in search of them. The men in question look very much like those rumored to be from the royal house."

"Hmm."

My eyes narrowed as I thought about the possibilities.

"Come back home. As soon as you arrive, contact Devon and have him print out copies of every single transaction that has gone on Rosa's phone in the past three months. Messages, calls and shit like that. Let him download all audios, without leaving a call unattended and he should transcribe every single thing and have them printed."

"Copy boss." He stated and I pressed the end button.

I checked Rosa and breathed a sigh of relief when her chest rose and fell more steadier unlike last night.

I dialed Romeo's line.

"Good morning boss."

"Nothing good about this morning. How are her siblings doing?"

"Fine. Timmy and Lam are keeping their eyes on Leo while Agatha and Bea are doing the same with the girl."

"Her maid, Aliza, find out what she knows and get rid of her. Also, escort the bishop here, have him here in the hospital before eight. I should've prepared myself and Rosa for the ceremony by then."

"Alright boss. Do I need to contact any designers to get her a nice white gown fit for the occasion?"

"No. We'll do that once she's fit and this has all been sorted out."

"Sir, the maid, do I torture her or quest-"

"Seduce her."

"Sir?" He sounded awkward. "Wh- I don't know..."

"Use this to get some experience, get her on your side and earn her trust." I snapped and ended the call.

The idiot would have died single and probably as a virgin if I didn't add some spice to his life by taking them to sex clubs and sometimes allowing him get women of his own.

He prioritized his work more than any other thing in his life. It was good though, because the pay was well worth it.

"Entrance!" I called.

The men at the entrance both came in.

"Head over to the mansion. Get my laptop and the documents in my room." I ordered one of them and he nodded, heading out immediately.

The other one stood beside me, waiting for my order.

"You can return to your position. Have one more man join you to secure the entrance."

He nodded and walked out and I was once again left alone with Rosa.

I faced her and stared. My eyes moved over her cute nose and down to her thin lips.

She looked tired and weak.

I reached forward and slowly touched her hand, retracting it immediately because the IV injection was connected it.

I had to restrategize, though I could depend on the allied forces I'd created over the years to back me up. The case of leadership and how things operated in the underworld was more than that between boss and his bodyguard or boss and his boys.

You either stay loyal till death or have your loyalty bought by switching sides.

I trusted my men and I trusted all the people I'd made an agreement with. They knew who would come after them if anything went wrong in the deal we made.

I had a quick shower but couldn't bath Rosa yet. It didn't matter.

I would soon go ahead with my plan.

Romeo walked in, right before Father Canaan stepped in behind him with his rosary in his right hand and his cassock heavily guarding his neck from even a teeny bit of exposure to the world.

His bible was fastened between his torso and lower arm.

"You are here, Father." I gestured for him to move further into the room and went to kiss his hand which he wrapped his rosary around.

"Bless you my child. I have been praying fervently ever since I got the word of what happened to you and your lady friend."

He was a renowned Reverend Father, who had so many friends in the underworld. Nothing ever passed his ears and he would be a great source of help in my plans at ruining my enemy's plans too.

When I was born, he christened me Romano while my parents named me Gonzalo Rodriguez and that is why so many refer to me as either Romano or fully Gonzalo Romano Rodriguez.

"Yes Father. The enemy has been hot on my tail. In due time, he will get what he deserves."

"Vengeance is like a messy wound in the body. If not tended to, it will get contaminated and cause more damage, no matter how small it is." He said while I stared at the worry lines on his forehead, then moved my eyes to the grey hair in a round patch at the front of his hair.

"It is too late to talk about forgiveness or restitution, Father."

He gripped my hand and his amber eyes stared deeply into mine. "It is never too late for one to trace his steps back to the way of salvation."

"Perhaps we shall discuss this at another date. I have a marriage to tend to." I told him dryly and his eyes twinkled.

"Ah yes, even as the bride is unconscious. But I see it is necessary, you have made the right decision, Romano. Has everything been prepared?" He asked instantly and I nodded.

"Yes Father. All the church certificate needs, is your signature. We've sorted out the court certificate."

"Brilliant. Let us begin."
