Laniyah's father is a Black Nova Scotian and Dominican with a small amount of Irish ancestry while her mother is Black Nova Scotian, Samoan, Jamaican, and Haitian.

Her mother is a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida, while her father is a 3× NBA champion former professional basketball player and coach, who later became a politician and is serving as the 58th Mayor of Pensacola.

Laniyah has six older siblings: Lukas Jr., Laasya, Lex, Leo, Lia, and London.

Her grandfather Philo Johnson is an American lawyer who served as a Senior United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Former professional wrestler Rocky Johnson is her cousin making his son, Dwayne Johnson and his daughter, Toya Johnson, Laniyah's second cousins.

She is a former track and field athlete, who competed internationally for the United States, primarily in the 400-meter sprint.

She began running at the age of seven. She was a 2003 graduate of Escambia High School, where she finished with a cumulative 4.5 GPA and was pegged the 2003 Gatorade National High School Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year and also the USA Track and Field Youth Athlete of the Year. At Georgia Institute of Technology, she was a nine-time individual state champion with four 100-meter titles, three 200-meter titles, one 400-meter title and one long jump title. She also majored in management and business administration at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

A six-time Olympic champion and an eight-time U.S. national champion, Laniyah was a formidable competitor throughout her career. Following an injury at the U.S. Olympic trials, Laniyah retired from the sport and subsequently became a proprietor, entrepreneur, interior designer, and property developer.

The elevator arrives, Laniyah and Joe file in. Once the elevator doors shut, Joe asks the question he's been wanting to know.

"When can you take me to Rosalia's grave?" Joe asked Laniyah.

"Oh, well, I can take you there today if you want," Laniyah answered.

Joe nods. The doors open, and Laniyah leads Joe to a room halfway down the corridor. After their therapy session with Dr. Kinder, Laniyah brought Joe with her to visit her office.

Dr. Kinder wanted Joe and Laniyah to spend time together and see how life had changed for both of them after their breakup. To show each other the growth they had experienced. So, Laniyah decided to take Joe to the headquarters of her multimillion-dollar empire.

"This is my office," Laniyah said as she opens the door and walks in with Joe closely behind her.

Joe pulled the door closed behind him.

Joe smiled. He was very proud of everything Laniyah had accomplished after their breakup. He always believed in her and knew that she would make something of herself.

"This is amazing," Joe said as he looks at the view behind Laniyah's desk. Her view was overlooking the city.

"Please sit," Laniyah said.

Joe took a seat on the couch in her office. He noticed a bar with an assortment of snacks and a mini fridge filled with wines, iced coffees, water, and sodas.

"I see you're still obsessed with Chester's Fries," Joe said.

"Chester's Fries will always have my heart," Laniyah said as she took a seat at her desk.

Joe's eyes move to Laniyah and watch her as she goes through the files on her desk.

"So, what's it like running your own business?" Joe asked Laniyah.

Lately, Joe found himself asking Laniyah a lot of questions about herself.

Laniyah sighed.

"Definitely more rewarding than running Track and Field for Team USA," Laniyah answered.

Joe nods.

"I'm still impressed with you being a six-time Olympic champion, I didn't even know you had continued running after college," Joe said.

"Well, I made sure to never cross paths with you after our break up, Joe, so of course, you wouldn't have known anything about me," Laniyah said.

"You know we could have been friends after our break up, Laniyah, you managed to keep in contact with my cousins, my brother, and my sister so why did you just ghost me like all those years of being friends weren't nothing to you?" Joe asked her.

Laniyah frowned.

"You started dating Galina, what two months after we broke up, Joe, I'm sure I wasn't on your mind with her in the picture, besides I was dealing with being pregnant, then losing Rosalia, and trying to get my life back on track. I wouldn't have been able to do that if you were still in my life," Laniyah explained.

Joe stands up and steps forward a little.

"I could have helped you," He said.

Laniyah let out a bitter chuckle.

"You never made the effort to show me that you wanted me in your life, Joe, after our break up. You ignored me just like how I ignored you so don't try to make me the bad guy. You know after I found out I was pregnant, you were the first person I ran to -- I was planning to you but when I got to your dorm and saw Galina, I ran and decided I would tell you at a later date but everything got so hectic and I ended up going into early labor and losing Rosalia that I never once thought about you, but I certainly could have handled things better and I've already apologized to you for that," Laniyah said.

Joe frowned.

"You tried to tell me," He said.

"Yeah, and every time I thought about trying to tell you, it seemed like fate didn't want me to because you were either with Galina or never on campus, but that's no excuse since there were rumors about me being pregnant going around so you could have come to me and fact checked if it was true," Laniyah said.

Laniyah was right. He had heard the rumors but never went to her and see if it was true. He wasn't sure why he didn't.

"Do you hate Galina that much?" Joe asked her.

"I dislike her but it's not because of you, it's because she tried to be me. Did you know she made my life a living hell after I returned to track? She kept talking about you and questioning everything I did as captain. She almost caused me not to qualify for Team USA. So, I guess all of this happening is her karma," Laniyah replied as she signed off on the contract in front of her.

Joe was shocked. He didn't know Galina was being so mean to Laniyah during their college days.

Laniyah looks up at Joe, she flashes him a grin, and he eases up a bit.

"Don't worry about it, Joe, it's not your fault your baby momma was -- is a manipulative tyrant," Laniyah said.

Joe sighed.

"I feel like we'll be apologizing to each other till the end of time, Lala, I'm sorry about how everything went down between us," Joe said.

Laniyah nods.

"At least we're apologizing and not hating each other, Joe," Laniyah said.
