WHISTLE IN THE DARK

[Whistle in the dark (phrase) - to try to remain brave/ pretend to be unafraid]

At first it was light showers then came the cascading downpour
And I was already drenched yet wanting more
Could have sworn the heaven laughed at me

Foolish girl, broken child could you not see?
The path you have chosen isn't one you could leave
You should have run away instead of diving in knee deep
The stars you seek, might not be honest
But now the water has risen up to your chest
You're drenched, you're drowning in love you say
But do you even have the bones to stay?

Foolish girl, selfish child haven't you known?
The creepers and vines in your heart cannot be a home
For someone gentle like him
This isn't an 80s love film
The flowers and sweet words won't fool him
You need to free your fright  And the thoughts that keep you awake all night,
Your self created nightmares
And the secrets that you haven't ever shared
For fear that this ugly side he sees
Of you, might scare him to leave

But naive girl, brave child don't be concerned
He isn't the kind to run
For behind those dark, dark eyes lies
A soul alike, an angel in disguise
For if your heart is true, then even heaven will oblige
If you have courage, even the stars will align
Keep whistling in the dark
And one day the shadows will shift far
And the morning will shine bright
And you will be drenched only in light
