Back To School

Three days and 46 boxes of cookies later I decided to check out of stress leave and head back to the school I worked at. I left sticky notes on every household appliance that Foxy couldn't touch and headed out. I decided today I would catch the bus, as it was quite early and no one would be on it. It was surprisingly bright for an early morning, I stood standing at the bus stop and examining my skirt for creases or mess. About five minutes later a white, clean looking bus reared its head over the hill and stopped with a satisfying 'pfffff.' I hopped on and showed the driver my card before finding a seat, there was no one aboard but I still went to the back and sat down before checking my watch, 06:03. I needed to get there early to gather my lesson plans I'd left somewhere.

About ten minutes later I arrived at the stop closest to the school. Another five minutes of walking and I was there, at the pristine blue gates of Saint Martha's Primary And Secondary School. I walked along the twisting corridors and unlocked my room. I set my bag on the counter before going around the room and taking down all the chairs and laying out textbooks for my first class. A sighed after running around the classroom so much and headed into the back room to turn on the coffee machine.

After two lessons of younger years screaming at each other i had my Year 11 class for Chemistry, i liked this class more as they were more mature. I stood there writing on the board with one hand and waving a flask of iodine in the other. My whole class sat writing down notes but they all were sat in very uninterested poses, with heads in hands and eyes half drooping. I tapped the board lightly, "Hey, I know this work can get a bit Boron." I said pointing to the element on the periodic table. One of my students chuckled."Miss, that was awful." She remarked. "What can I say. All the good jokes Argon." The whole class were now sat up and paying attention. "I didn't expect my chemistry puns to have any reaction." The whole class laughed slightly. "OK settle down please, now that I have your undivided attention I want to explain to you about how the PH scale affects different reactions." I jotted down some notes and diagrams and left my class to copy them down while I stood at the side checking that they were all writing. Just then a shadow popped up at the window out of the corner of my eye. I turned my head to see Foxy staring back at me and waving furiously.

I gasped and dropped my beaker on the floor, keeping my gaze fixed on him. I couldn't move. The students all looked up and stared at me then some students started to look around for what had shocked me. Just before someone turned round and looked out the window I smacked the white board with a large wooden ruler causing everyone to turn around. Foxy lost his balance and fell backwards into the hydrangeas behind him. "Silence!" I screamed. I didn't want to shout at my group, I just couldn't have anyone see Foxy. "Eyes on the board please." I looked up at the wall clock. Ten minutes left, good, it was lunch next. I could lock my room up and let Foxy in for an hour. The next ten minutes went agonizingly slow and I gesticulated to Foxy to wait in the bushes until I said while no one was looking. Finally the bell rang and with a sigh if relief I dismissed my students, I hadn't set the homework I had planned but it didn't matter. They were all gone. I looked out into the hallway before closing my door and locking it from the inside. Then I hurried over to the window and threw it open. "What on earth are you doing here." I hissed in a hushed tone. "Ahoy lass, I need to show yer' somein'."

Quickly I grabbed his hand and heaved. He was quite heavy but eventually I yanked him over the window sill and into the room with an explosion of flowers. He fell over the ledge and landed in a crawl position just on top of me, baby blue and pink petals drifted down around us and Foxy pulled a bunch of flowers out of his hinge before getting up and helping me on to my feet. He handed me the hydrangeas, " 'ere ye are lass." He said. "Are you crazy, what are you doing outside. In public. In a school!" I replied in a panicked tone. "I need to show yer' somein'" he repeated. "Well this better be important." "important 'nough for me to travel to this youngun keepin' pen." "School." "Quick. Laptop!" He yelped. I rushed over to my laptop and logged in. "Hi slender, furry fingers worked rapidly as he typed in the exact name of the thing he was trying to show me. "Look lass." He stammered. "It's a live report." I said. "What about it?' "Yaar but look." He panicked. "I turned the volume up and my eyes widened in shock. It was a report on Freddy's Pizzeria. "Oh my god..." I trailed off as my face rested in my hands. "What're we gonna do lass?" He said. "Hmmmm." I stared at the news reporter talking to people protesting around the parking lot. "We're going to keep you hidden. I will not let that cow get a hold of you!" I stood up and slammed my fists against the table. "Thank ye lass. I best be gettin' back before littleuns be gettin' outta lunch." He walked to the window and sat on the window sill staring at me. "See ya around lass." He didn't look where he was falling either and fell face first into a bush before getting up, brushing himself off, and fleeing into the woods. I sighed and started picking up all the petals, then I noticed the bunch of hydrangeas on the floor from Foxy. I smelt them, they were my favourite flower after all. I blushed vividly before grunting and throwing the flower out of the window with all the petals. I remembered the promise I made to myself. Foxy was off limits.
