Chapter Fourteen

I started crying and began to realize that it was a mistake I didn't let love entered my life. Garrett was comforting me and patted my back. Then I opened the box that was wrapped. It was a heart locket and I open the locket and it has a picture of him when he was a teenager. I kept crying more. He gently wiped the tears on my face. I looked at him and he looked at me. He slowly kissed me and this time I didn't stop him. Even over twenty years I never thought I get my first kiss in my early forties. We stopped kissing.

Libby: I never stop thinking about you either. I was trying to protect myself from hurt in relationships. But I regret rejecting you then. Now you're in my heart until it stops.

He grabs my face gently.

Garrett: There's nothing wrong taking risks and you should know were a lot older and mature. Relationships may not be like a perfect fairytale but I'm promising you and right now until I die. I'm not going anywhere and if we have a fight, it will remind me how darn lucky I am to have an amazing woman like you.

I kissed him with passion and hugged him.

Garrett: So, I'm assuming you're hungry.

Libby: Like a horse!!

He laughed and went to get the food and brought it to the table. We ate salad and pizza. Also drank sparkling juice. Then we had strawberries with chocolate for dessert. We pretty much finished so, I decided to break the silence.

Libby: So, I been dying to ask. How in the world did you did this in the high school gym with last minute?

He chuckled.

Garrett: Well, being Principal of this high school, I have my ways.

I looked shocked.

Libby: Your what?! I thought you would be a basketball coach!

Garrett: I do like basketball, but this is better. I'm assuming you're not a coach of cheerleading?

I laughed.

Libby: I wish! I do miss cheerleading but working at Kohl's as a sales associate is perfect to work at.

Garrett: Your happy right?

Libby: Of course!! I mean before tonight happened. I enjoy coming home to my dog and goldfish.

Garrett: Your lucky! I wish I have pets.

Libby: Why don't you??

Garrett: When my wife was alive, she didn't want any.

Libby: Hold it! You were married before?! What do you mean by was alive???

He looked sad.

Garrett: We were married the summer after college graduation. She was killed by a drunk driver five years ago.

I looked sad.

Libby: Oh my gosh!! I'm so sorry!

Garrett: It's okay it took me a while to move on. I always wanted to ask you this. How did you decided to avoid love in the first place? I mean before tonight being single over twenty years must been hard. I would go crazy If I were me.

I laughed.

Libby: It wasn't easy, but I did it because of you.

He looked puzzled.

Garrett: What do you mean??

Libby: Back in our freshman year, it was the same day for the Valentine's Day Dance. I was planning to ask you but you we're going with Karla and there was no point to ask you since you had a date. I was very heartbroken, and I had deep feelings for you since seventh grade. So that's why I decided to avoid love and not get hurt from relationships.

Garrett: I wished I can change the past I didn't know you liked me before middle school.

I laughed.

Libby: Well, you do now!

He laughed as well.

Garrett: How you like your Valentine's Day so far?

Libby: I don't want it to end that's for sure! I love it and it's a lot better than just sitting at home doing nothing.

Garrett: I'm glad you said that because our night isn't over yet!

Libby: What are you up to Prince Charming??

Garrett: Since we never had our moment at the Valentine's Day dance in our teens. Is it too late to have that moment now?

I blushed.

Libby: As long I'm not awkward to dance it's never too late.

Garrett: As long I don't dance on your feet, we'll be fine.

I laughed. He grabbed a remote and hit a button. The music was playing a song called A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. He walked over to me and put his hand out. I grabbed his hand, and we walked a little close where the light is shining on the floor from the twinkling lights. As we were dancing slowly. We looked in our eyes and kissed with passion. While we were kissing, he picked me up and spin me around. Before our night was over, he spoke to me.

Garrett: Before you go home. I wanted to tell you that I might scare you, but I need to say this.

Libby: Should I be nervous?

Garrett: No. I want to be in a relationship with you and I love you so much Libby!

I looked stunned.

Libby: You what??

Garrett: You heard me, Juliet.

I quietly cry.

Garrett: I may had a toxic ex-girlfriend in high school and losing my wife, I thought my love story was finished. It isn't! Do you want to know why?? I believe destiny want us together and our love story will last forever until we die.

Libby: On one condition.

Garrett: What's that??

Libby: On the next date only, I can do surprises for you!

Garrett: Whatever you want to happen Cinderella!

I laughed.

Libby: I never stopped loving you. My heart always beat for you.

He kissed me with passion, and I kissed back the same way.

Garrett: Drive safe and text me when you get home.

Libby: I will. Bye Romeo!

Then I left the gym. A year passed by. I was driving to the high school to celebrate our one-year anniversary. When I entered inside and there was a path of rose pedals like last time. I followed until the end and stopped at the gym doors. The sign was different than last time. It said Magical Adventure Part Two Awaits. I went inside and I saw rose pedals was shaped like a huge heart with flame candles around it. Inside the rose pedals heart had words spelled out with more rose pedals and it said Will You Marry Me. I just froze and cried like an emotional waterfall. Then he appeared kneeling down next to me and opened the ring box.

Garrett: You mean the world to me Libby. I fell in love with you the first time you cheered at my basketball game. I want to grow old with you and I know our love story was meant to be written. Will you be the honor to be my everlasting wife?

I nod my head while crying.

Libby: Yes!!! I'll marry you, Garrett! My everlasting husband!!

He chuckled with a huge smile and put the ring on my finger. I couldn't believe love came back to me. But it was worth it cause it was the right time for my love story to happen. We had a passion kiss. If this story was in a fairy tale book, it would say the six words that we always love to hear. Which is, and we lived happily ever after.

THE END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
