Chapter 8: Only One Thing

(3 days later, Krystal's POV)

The last fight of the day had just ended. Tomorrow will take place the last double rounds and possibly the one one finals. We returned to our room. Night crashed into his bed, letting out a sigh.

"The tournament is almost over and we still haven't been able to stop Cinder..." he complains.

"Yeah. And if she has to launch her assault, it's bound to be in the finals. There hasn't been any mishap since the start of the tournament, so nobody will expect it." Dragon told us as he sat down on his bed.

"The best way would be to find evidence to give Ozpin to stop Cinder." I told them.

"Except the only evidence we have is Night's memory. And that's not enough to make her arrested." Resare told me, who was lying on her bed.

"As a bonus, we have another problem." Night told us as he sat down. "With our little tricks, Cinder's watching us and she's going to expect us to interfere again." He tells us. We all sighed.

"Thanks for the bad news. Do you have another one?" Resare asks him unpleasantly.

"Yeah. If we believe Emerald, I'm Cinder's primary target. Must say I unmasked her, faced her in the communication room, and with Resare we humiliated her pawns." He tells us.

"Is she going to kill you?" I asked him worried.

"No. She'll be unmasked right away and her whole plan will be screwed up. Killing Night will provide Ozpin and Ironwood with sufficient evidence to get her arrested." Dragon answers me. I sigh in relief.

"So even if she wants to kill me, she won't be able to. We're stuck and so is she." Night told me.

"We put Cinder and her clique in check. More than proof to denounce her and it will be checkmate. We'll have won." Dragon tells us.

"Great! Thank you for lighting our lantern, Hercule Poirot!" Resare said to Dragon getting up from her bed. "But now, could you tell us how we'll find the proof?" She asks him.

"I don't know yet." He replied.

"In her Scroll, maybe?" Night tell us. We all watched him.

"Cinder was able to control the randomization process of the fights, so if we get hold of her Scroll, maybe we can find some evidences." Proposes Night. Dragon began to think.

"It's not that simple. Cinder is smart. She'll always keep her Scroll with her, and even if we do manage to take it, there must be a security key that locks the access. Like every Scrolls models." He tells us.

"And you don't know how to hack a Scroll, by any chance?" I asked him.

"Trust me, I wish I could, but I'm a computer noob." Ricane Dragon. "Her Scroll, it's not possible. We have to find something else." He said to us more seriously.

"We'll find a solution. Don't worry." I tell my team.

(During the night, Night's POV)

It was quite late. It must have been three in the morning, I believe. And as usual, I didn't sleep. Dragon was snoring a lot, as usual. I sigh and sit up. I grab my clothes and start getting dressed for a walk.

"Night? Are you going out?" Krystal asks me, drowsy.

"Yes. Don't worry, go back to sleep." I tell her while reassuring her. Krystal starts to fall asleep again and I turn to smoke and go through the window. I walk to the benches near the dining hall and lie down on one of them. I start to look at the stars when I hear a weird noise. I looked to my right and saw a crow staring at me from the back of the bench. It didn't make any noise, it didn't move. It was just staring at me.

"What?" I asked it, even though I knew well it wasn't going to answer me. I just look at the sky for another ten minutes. I sit up and realize that this bird was still there. I just ignore it and get up from the bench. I see the crow fly away towards a tree, near the refectory.

"What a strange bird..." I whispered to myself before starting to leave. I heard footsteps behind me. I heard the crow croak very loudly. In surprise, I turned around before being kicked in the jaw. I dodged a right hook before grabbing my attacker's wrist. I lowered my arm slightly to see who was attacking me:

"Cinder?" I asked. She looked at me coldly. You could tell she wanted me badly. I looked behind and saw the crow fly away towards the teachers' dormitories.

"It's time for round 3" She growls at me before kneeling me in the stomach. She tries to kick me back in the face, which I dodged by bending down. I swept her away and tried to hit her in the head with a shin, which she dodged with a roll. I rolled and got up before getting into a fighting position.

"What are you doing?" I growled at her. No answer. She rushes over me and tries to put me several direct blows in the face, I dodged the first, the second, the third. I ducked to dodge the fourth and grabbed her wrist. I walked behind her back with her right arm, ready to give her an arm lock, my other arm around her neck.

"Calm down right now!" I screamed at her before taking a headbutt in the nose, causing me to back off. She tried to kick me back in the face. I grabbed her ankle.

"What's wrong with you tonight?" I growled at her before pushing her. I run at her before I jump in the air and try to kick her in the face. She grabbed my ankle before spinning around and swinging me towards the dining hall.

I went through a window before striking a table and falling to the floor on my stomach. I straighten up before removing a piece of glass from my forehead and swinging it away. I had cuts everywhere, I was spurting blood.

"Why do you have to mind my business all the time !?" Coldly wonders Cinder, who was standing on the table that I had hit.

"You can blame yourself!" I growled at her as I got up before hopping onto the table behind me doing a somersault.

"I had only one thing and you took it from me!" I told her before rubbing my lips, which were bloody. "You wouldn't have turned my sister into a criminal, I won't be there, in front of you!" I growled at her, clenching my fists.

"I swore to myself to make you pay for it, and you'll pay for it!" I growled at her before turning into smoke and dashing into her, knocking her off her table.

I held her down and hit her in the face. Once, twice, three times. I got up and grabbed her by the hair and slammed her head against the table three times before swinging her out of the dining hall, toward the broken window. I rushed outside and grabbed Cinder by the hair and pulled her up before pushing her away. We put ourselves in a combat position.

"THAT'S ENOUGH !" A voice yells at us. We turned around to see General Ironwoold and Ozpin, accompanied by Atlesian soldiers. We see Glynda arriving pushing some soldiers.

"You again !? But that's not possible!" She complains before seeing the broken glass. She was really pissed off!

"Professor Goodwitch, I can explain ..." I was defending me.

"It won't be necessary. We already know everything." Ozpin told me before pulling away slightly, letting a man with battling hair pass

"Who is he ?" I asked.

"I'm the one who'll keep you out of troubles, kiddo." He replied in a monotonous tone, taking out a bottle of alcohol and drink.

"Qrow told us he saw what happened." Ozpin explains to us.

"What do you mean? There was no one there except a crow staring at me for ten minutes!" I answered him.

"It was me, that crow." Qrow told me. What? Was that him, that bird?

"You?" I asked him in misunderstanding.

"Yup." He replied.

"Miss Herbst, do you think it's necessary to attack a student who hasn't asked for anything in the middle of the night?" Ozpin asks her. Without answer.

"That's what seemed to us." Ironwood told her. "We will contact Professor Lionheart early tomorrow. You and your team will be sent back to Haven. Now go back to your room!" The general orders her. Cinder left, accompanied by soldiers from Atlas, giving me an icy look.

"Sent back to Haven? That's all !?" I got offended. "Professor Ozpin, with what happened tonight, I think you have the evidence you asked me for!" I told him.

"Indeed." He replied. I didn't understand anything.

"What?" I asked him.

"You were right, she came here under a false name, and this assault is the proof we needed to arrest Miss Fall and her team. The ship she and her team will be transferred to will not really get them to Haven Academy. They will be incarcerated awaiting their judgment." The general explains to me.

"I see." I sighed. "But can you free Emerald, please?" I asked him.

"I don't know for the moment." He replied.

"Night. It would be better if you go back to your room. I'll drop by later to make you some bandages" Glynda told me.

"Yes, professor." I answered her before leaving.

(Krystal's POV)

Since Night came out, I haven't closed my eyes. With what he told us, it worried me, to let him out. I was sitting on the edge of the window, looking at the stars. Suddenly I heard a noise coming from the door. It had just opened.

"It's me." It was Night. Seeing him I screamed in fear. He was hurt all over! He was covered in blood!

"Damn it! Krystal, what are you screaming like that...- Fuck, Night, what happened!?" Shouted Resare, worried.

"What happened to you !?" Dragon exclaims, equally worried. Night began to smile slyly.

"They have their evidence. Checkmate." He tells us.
