"Bye humpty dumpty, see you at our next session" Nathaniel, my therapist, waved.

"Bye Nate" I laughed and took the elevator down to where my car was parked. I got in and drove to the house, when I got out I tried to unlock the door but it wasn't working so I rang the doorbell. For a while nobody came to the door, finally Chris opened the door.

"Took you long enough" I told him out of breath. "My damn back hurts"

Chris just stood there cheesing and making kisses faces.

"Why you smilin' for ? weirdo and why the fuck is it so dark in the house?" I said as I walked in.

Almost immediately everyone jumped out as the light cut on and screamed. "SURPRISE!!"

I jumped back and covered my mouth, they all scared me. I realized all my family and friends were here, and started to tear up.

"Oh my.. what the hell is going on?" I was crying out of joy, I couldn't believe everyone was here.

"Surprise sis! I'm back and i'm better, you know we had to throw you a lil sum sum" Raina joked.

"Thank you bitch, I missed you so much" I hugged her. "You didn't even tell me you were coming back" I lightly pushed her.

"Girl It wouldn't be a surprise if I told you" She said causing me to playfully roll my eyes.

  I looked around at all the pink and blue decorations that led outside to the pool area. The place was beautiful and the decorations were outstanding.

"LET'S GET THIS BABY SHOWER STARTEDDD" I shouted causing everyone to cheer.

Once the party started getting lit, I took that opportunity to walk around and thank everyone for coming.

"Hey mom, hey Jaren" I greeted them.

"Hey darling, you look so beautiful and I know you didn't even try" My mom complimented.

"She's right, wow look at your belly" Jaren agreed.

"Yeah, this one sure knows how to kick" I giggled, holding on to the bottom of my belly.

"Definitely a boy, Chris used to kick all the time" My mother said.

"I don't know.. I feel like it's a girl" I told her.

I felt a hand on my shoulder, I turned around to see Gloria.

"Gloria ! Hey" I exclaimed, engulfing her in a hug.

"Hey baby, how are you and the little bundle of joy in there?"

"We're good, just counting the days until I finally pop" I joked.

"Congratulations baby" Gloria squealed, leaning in to hug me again. "Hello Karlyn" She said, finally acknowledging her sister's presence.

"Hello Gloria.." My mom replied, I tip toed away in hopes of not witnesses or getting dragged into their little siblings rivalry.

Before I got far, I saw mom tell Jaren that he better talk to her before she does cause she'll hurt Gloria's feelings.

I found a chair near the door inside and sat down. This pregnancy was really taking a troll on me, I've been exhaustingly tired for eight whole months and i'm completely ready for this baby to be delivered. I had finally had an appointment with a real doctor back in october and I was pregnant.. clearly. Things had been complicated over the last eight months. If I wasn't resting, I was in therapy and if I wasn't there then I'd be with my lawyer dealing with this citizenship shit.

"Princess, you look so fat" Tory joked. I put my hand on my chest and pretended to cry. "Nah i'm just playin' , you look gorgeous"

I smacked his arm and smiled. "I know"

"We ain't get much hanging out time like before anymore" He said.

"I know, I miss you all. Tomorrow we're gonna chill just like old times" I told them.

"Ouu who's this, aug?" I said looking at the pretty girl next to August.

"Oh this ma soon ta' be girl. Quyar, this is ma sister Dariah. D, this is Quyar" He introduced us.

"Hi Quyar" I smiled and gave her a hug. She greeted me back and we exchanged a few words before she went off with august to go get some food.

Now it was just Tory and Trey sitting with me. Trey's been quiet.

"Hey TreyTrey" I nudged him. "You're never this quiet"

"He just mad aug is dating his crush" Tory laughed.

"Shut the fuck up" Trey grilled Trey.

"You clearly need my help, I told you to get a girl almost a year ago"

"It's not that easy bro, I lose feelings easily and I never feel attached to these broads" He complained.

"Then get attached, I want some God babies and i'm sure yo mama wants some grand babies from her other son so get to it" I scolded him. He just sucked his teeth and shook his head.

"Look, she's pretty go talk to her. hopefully she has a nice personality" I pointed to this tall darkskin girl who society would look at as "average". He got up and made his way to her.

Tory got a call and got up to go take it, leaving me to sit and observe the party.The party games will start soon so I used this time to rest.

I felt someone sit next to me but I didn't bother to look.. until they spoke up.

"Still mad at me?"

I knew that voice from anywhere, it belonged to the one person who I called my bestfriend.

"What are you doing here? I thought you were supposed to be the mad one" I said to her.

"I was but I realized it was stupid" Alicia frowned. "I'm sorry about everything and I hope we could pick back up the broken pieces"

"Honestly Alicia, it's not gonna be easy cause you've ignored me for almost a year now then you show up unexpectedly to my surprise baby shower hoping to rekindle. You know I love you but you're gonna have to work hard for this relationship" I admitted to her.

"I get it" She nodded her head. "I really do miss you though"

"I miss you more mi amor" I smiled at her.

"Aye baby they ain't got no good drinks up in here" Anither familiar voice said coming from around the corner, soon I matched the voice with the devil himself.

"What the fuck is he doin here Alicia" I got up and scooted away from her.

"I can explain Imani" Alicia said standing up as well.

"Man Alicia you ain't got to explain yoself" He said.

"Yo shut the hell up before I get yo ass washed" I sized up to him.

"You best back up" He warned.

"What you gonna do?" I looked him up and down disgustingly.

"You don't wanna take it there dawg"

By now we started to catch the eyes of everyone around us.

"Nico stop please, this is her baby shower" Alicia begged, trying to pull him away but he pushed her away causing her to stumble back.

"What's going on here?" Chris stepped from the crowd who was watching all the commotion.

"Alicia's crazy insane ass boyfriend wants to get beat" I told him.

"Hold up.. I thought you didn't have a boyfriend" Chris questioned to Alicia. Nico stopped grillin me and gave Alicia killer looks, she looked so scared. She knew she was gonna die today, even though I was pissed that she brought him I was not gonna let anything happen to her.

"Oh so you single single?" Nico asked her.

"No baby I- He-" Alicia stumbled on her words, not knowing the right set that would avoid an aggressive outburst from Nico.

"You..He.. Bitch speak" Nico barked at her.

"Hold up, you ain't gonna speak to her like that" I said to him.

"Don't tell me how I should speak to my fucking property, dumb bitch" Nico insulted me.

"Aight I was being nice but you just pushing it" Chris cracked his knuckles before charging at Nico, but luckily Aug came in time to hold Chris back. Only lucky for Nico cause Chris would've killed his ass.

"You ain't gon do shit, stop flexin like you hard" Nico pipped.

"Yo let go of me so I can show this shitty ass nigga" Chris huffed.

" You're so damn disrespectful. You beat and take advantage of my friend then you think it's okay to come to my baby shower and continue to be disrespectful and disgraceful? You should be ashamed of yourself. Didn't yo mama teach you how to respect?" I lectured which made him tight.

"Bitch don't talk about my fucking mama" Nico yelled pushing me into the wall.

By now, Chris got out of August's grip who let him go with no fight and raced towards Nico. Chris took him by the neck and slammed his head against the wall while Nico used his right arm to snag a punch to Chris's stomach causing him to double over and cough, releasing Nico's neck. Nico took that opportunity to punch Chris in the face, I screamed for them to stop while August held me back but that didn't stop them.

I looked at Alicia and she stood there looking shocked. The whole day I hadn't seen Dave so I was surprised when I saw him in the crowd watching the fight.

Chris stood up and threw three consecutive punches to Nico's face then put him in a headlock contributing to throw punches. He then took Nico by the neck again and smashed his head on the nearest table, everything was moving so fast and I couldn't take it anymore. I was over emotional and almost drowning in my own tears.

"Go stop him" I cried to August who was holding me. "Don't let him kill Nico, there's too many witnesses"

August nodded his head agreeing then let go of me to go break the fight.

"Don't . you . ever . disrespect . my . family . or . harm . them . ever" Chris smashed Nico's head with every word harder than the last. My eyes were paining me, once I closed my eyes I didn't open them for a long time.

Alicia Alvoro

I laid next to Dariah in her bed, wondering why I bring drama everywhere I go. Wondering why it's always my fault bad things happen. I allow Nico to constantly objectify me and stay quiet, I see the bad but I never take action.

"Hey" Chris's head peeked from behind the door.

"Hey.." I responded.

"You good?"

"Yeah.. what about you?"

"Girl i'm cool, I just wanna know about you"

"Chris i'm so sorry about everything, I swear I didn't mean for any of this to happen" I apologized.

"Come to my room to talk so we don't wake her" He suggested.

"Alright" I got up and followed him to his room. After Dariah fainted during the fight, everyone besides family was escorted out.

"Why you so far? come closer, I ain't gonna bite" Chris joked, patting the spot next to him. "I mean that's only if you don't want me to" He winked causing me to blush.

"Boy stop" I moved to the spot next to him and he laid his head on my lap. I caressed the swollen part of his face while he stared up at me.

"Why do you let him treat you like shit?" He asked.

I sighed. I was tired of constantly explaining myself.

"I just do"

He nodded and stayed silent eventually falling asleep. I continued to caress his face but felt myself dosing off. I wasn't about to fully fall asleep because

someone kept ringing the doorbell like they were the damn police.

I slid Chris's head on the bed and got up going downstairs to open the door.

"Um can I help you?" I asked the two people outside that were dressed in blue and black.

"Is Dariah-Imani Brown here?" The white guy with a shaved head said.

"Who are you?" I asked, trying to avoid bringing her up.

"We're with Immigration and Customs Enforcement"
