As The Years Go By

Several years seemed to go by in a flash. The years went by not only for Alexander but also for Avelina. It was like yesterday when Alexander and Veronica taught Avelina to wield a sword properly. Of course, she wasn't the best at it. But after a few months, she began to improve significantly. Avelina had such an elegant way of using the sword. It was indeed a sight to see. Of course, the training wasn't always smooth. Becky would come to check on Avelina while she practiced and watched in awe. But that her attention would often lie upon Veronica. The two never got along. Becky would always assume that Veronica was flirting with Alexander, which was not the case. This would often make Becky and Veronica shoot sneaky insults at each other. Avelina found this entertaining and would always look forward to Becky coming to see her practice.

Avelina wasn't just practicing using a sword. She was also privately training in using her magic as well. She'd often have to leave the palace and go to a private spot where no one would hear her magic go off. The first time she practiced by herself, it scared her. When Avelina practiced with Becky and Alex, she never realized just how dangerous and destructive her magic could be. But the more she practiced, the less she feard it. Over time the pain in her fingers began to go away whenever she used her power. It wasn't long before Avelina started coming up with unique abilities.

One of those abilities she came up with was using a strand of her lighting to listen in on conversations. She tested this out with Jerry first, and she would listen to him do his random singing. It always made her laugh to hear him sing, and she would join in occasionally.

Another time that Avelina would use her magic to listen in on conversations was when she overheard Becky say to Alexander, "We need to have a private conversation," She said. Becky would take Alexander into her bedroom. Avelina would tip-toe to the door and send her strand of lightning into the room. She listened carefully. Then, her face turned bright red at realizing what the private conversation was about. Avelina would slowly walk away, wishing that her life had ended right then and there.

As Avelina got older, her interest in dating started to grow. Which worried Alexander was getting anxious about. Avelina began putting more effort into how she looked. She wore more dresses, and she used different styles for her hair. Becky was excited to help her with her hair, which Avelina found amusing. Avelina had never seen Aunt Becky without that odd outfit she wore. She was shocked when she discovered that her hair was white like her mother's. The same went for Uncle Cloyd too. His hair color was white as well. Avelina always thought that Cloyd and Becky were burnets.

Avelina would leave the palace alone for the first time in a while. She wore a pink dress with gold lining in it. Some parts of her hair were braided and had gold accessories. She was out shopping for groceries, but secretly she was hoping to run into a boy. Or maybe a girl. Avelina did end up running into a group of boys. But unfortunately, they ended up catcalling her, to which Avelina rolled her eyes. One of them did try and talk to her. But their pickup lines were terrible. And their breath was horrible.

"Jeez did you eat a skunk or something?" said Avelina, holding her hand over her face.

"Oh, come on, cutie, it's not that bad! It's just food I was eating!" said The Boy as he walked closer to Avelina. "Why don't you come to hang out with the boys and me?"

"You'll have to get to know me first," said Alexander, standing right behind the boy. The boy turned around and looked up at Alex. The boy began to sweat as he stared at Alex. Alex grabbed the boy by the back of his shirt and tossed him into a barrel with one hand. The boy's friends look at Alexander in fear. "It-It's the Darknight of Maru! RUN!" The boys shout in fear, and they run off.

"Maru's youth has weakened," Alexander shook his head. He looked down at Avelina. Avelina scowled at him. "What is it-Oh...right..."

"I said I was going to go on my own!" said Avelina angrily. "I can't have you baby me all the time, Alex!"

"I know, Avelina, I know but-"

"No buts!" Avelina interrupts. "Let me do this myself, Alex. I'm not a helpless little girl!"

Alexander sighed. But he would smile. "You're right, Avelina. You aren't that little kid anymore."

"Duh! I'm a woman now!" Avelina said, flipping her braids with her left hand.

Once Alexander had left. Avelina would continue grocery shopping. She would try and find more people to talk to afterward, but after failing with a boy, she would try and talk to more girls. Unfortunately for Avelina, many girls in Maru were either stuck-up Bitches, Or older women who were high all the time. It was safe to say that Avelina put relationships at the bottom of the list.

For now, of course.

Two more years would go by, and Avelina was now fourteen.

This was the year that Avelina's life would change.
