Chapter 17:

11:11, shooting stars, dandelions, birthday candles, wish bones, wishing wells, eyelashes, the first star, lady bugs. Have you ever been so happy that you wished things would stay the same? Because I was wishing with everything I had in me. I was wishing that things would stay exactly the way they were because things the way they were was great and happy and marvellous and simple and easy and effortless and beautiful and fun and carefree.

Liam and I had been ‘seeing’ each other for a little over a week and it was the most fun I’d had in years. We’d sneak out of the house and go for drives to anywhere. We’d stop at rest stops just to make out. We’d stop at large fields and run across them without a care in the world. We’d find watering holes and go for a skinny dip. At dinner we’d excuse ourselves and go outside and I’d see Jane and Peter smile at each other knowingly and Peter would tell Jane that we’re the lucky ones and for a while we were.

In that week and a bit I learnt more about Liam then I knew about Beth in my whole five years of knowing her. We talked about everything from hopes and dreams to crazy multiverse theories to telling riddles like ‘how many seconds in a year?’ (There are twelve (January 2nd, February 2nd, March 2nd and etc)). We could talk for hours on end about anything. We had an hour conversation about Harry Potter. I mean how many people can you have a one hour conversation about Harry Potter with? After I finish all the books Liam and I are going to have a competition to see how many spells we can get. Whoever gets the most wins a hundred bucks so I really need to finish the series soon and I was so going to win. I texted Hope and she’s a Harry Potter freak so she said she’d help me study for it. I was taking this more seriously than any exam I’d ever taken in school and that was saying something. I was a bit of a nerd when it came to school.

Liam made the little things matter and when the little things matter it just makes you euphoric. I was happy that the sky was blue. I was happy that flowers bloomed. I was happy that ice cream existed. I was just happy about everything. Happy, happy, happy.

“Attention passengers, this is your captain speaking. Prepare for landing. Please take your seats and fasten your seatbelts. We will be starting the descent.”

I looked over at Liam and noticed he didn’t have his seat belt on. I was going to nudge him but he looked so adorable sleeping so I just leaned over and buckled his seat belt instead but the plane shook and my hair fell into Liam’s face.

“Hmm, what’s going on?” Liam asked as I sat back into my seat.

“The plane’s landing. I was just buckling your seat belt.” I rested my head on his shoulder and in turn he rested his head against mine and interlocked our hands. Whenever we held hands Liam rubbed circles with his thumb onto my hand and I loved it.

“You know, for a badass you’re pretty sweet sometimes,” Liam said and I smiled and raised an eyebrow.

            “You think I’m a badass?”

“Umm, did you forget how you were like before we went to Littleton?”

“I was like an angel,” I told him and he chuckled.

“Sure you were,” he said and he kissed the top of my head and I rolled my eyes.

“So I was thinking,” I started.

            “Yes…”

“That, we should have a sleepover,” I said wagging my eyebrows. Liam raised an eyebrow and half smirked.

“I think your mind is going to dark places.”
“Pur-lease, my mind is always in dark places,” I informed him and he chuckled. “So do you want to spend the night with your beautiful girlfriend or not?”

“You called yourself my girlfriend,” Liam stated and I just shrugged.

“Aren’t we at that stage of our relationship?” I asked.

“Yes, I just thought you would be difficult about it. You don’t seem as the relationship kind of girl.”

“You know, I’m really not but there’s something about you that has me calling you mine. So you’re my boyfriend.”

“And what if I don’t want to be your boyfriend?”

“Do you have a fever or something? I mean look at me, I’m gorgeous, talented, hot body that I work damn hard for-”

“Tell that to the two pieces of chocolate cake you had for breakfast,” Liam scoffed.

“I am on vacation! I am allowed to have a few cheat days,” I informed him before continuing, “I’m pretty and I’m good at kissing.”

“You forgot about your dazzling personality,” Liam said sarcastically and I laughed but elbowed him in the stomach.

“I never said it was easy to love me but the good at kissing thing makes up for my crappy personality.”

“I don’t care if you’re good at kissing. I like you for you,” Liam said and I smiled.

“I like you for you too,” I said and I turned my head to place a kiss on his cheek but he turned his head at the last second so I ended up kissing his mouth. “Sneaky,” I said amused.

“You know you love it,” he winked and wagged his eyebrows and I laughed and hit his arm playfully. “Wait ‘til tonight,” he said and he thrusted playfully in his seat and made my laugh trickle out louder and happier.

“You are such a dork,” I laughed.

“Who are you calling a dork?” Liam asked me with a funny facial expression that was quite unflattering that made me laugh harder. “Okay that’s it,” Liam said and he started tickling me around my tummy so that I thrashed around in my seat being restrained by the seatbelt and laughed so hard I cried.

Yes, I’d never been happier.

.

“Tell me everything but before you do I just want to say I told you so!” Beth squealed as I laughed and fell onto her bed casually. It had been a couple hours since I’d gotten off the plane with Liam and of course Beth hunted me down to ask for all the details so I parted with Liam and Beth dragged me to her cabin. It was unnaturally clean as usual. The bed was neatly made – the sheets were so tight that a coin would bounce off of it – and no stray clothes littered the furniture or floor, it was all packed neatly into her closest. A complete opposite of my own cabin, which looked as though a tornado had just swept through it.

“Okay! I admit it! You told me so!” I said and even if I wanted to I couldn’t get the stupid grin off of my face. Apparently smiling was a side effect of being happy. Who knew it felt so good to smile because you were happy?

“Awe! Look at you! You’re completely smitten!” Beth cooed. “So how did it happen? You haven’t slept with him have you?”

“I don’t know how it happened or why it happened all I know is that it happened, it’s happening and I’m so glad that it is. I’ve never felt this way. Do, do you always feel so light? Like you could just float off into the wind?”

“You’re in love,” Beth said dreamily but I shook my head. I wasn’t in love. Yet. Maybe one day I could be in love with Liam but for the moment I just had very strong feelings for Liam that caused my stomach to spin and roll when he touched me and caused my head to go dizzy in dazzling happiness when his lips were on mine or when my heart went from calm to beating frantically in anticipation of seeing him. I wasn’t in love, I just had strong feelings for him.

            “No, I’m not.”

“But you could be? One day?”

“Yes,” I agreed and she clapped.

“So how did it happen? What was your first date?”

“Okay, well he left a note on my hotel room door saying to meet him in the lobby at eight and to wear something nice. But you know me I always have to throw a little sexy in it so I wore high waisted denim shorts with a black crop top thingy and those little black strappy heels – you know which ones I’m talking about, they’ve got the strap around the ankle and the strap around the toes – anyway let’s just say I looked hot.”

“Don’t you always?” Beth said and I laughed.

“Turns out the heels were a waist, he took me to a field about ten kilometres out of Littleton. It was very nice. He had a picnic all set up – very romantic. He had a picnic blanket and he had a few lanterns hung up in this big tree that was there and all the stars were out and we were completely alone and it was completely wonderful. Oh, and he tucked a flower into my hair and told me I looked beautiful and it was just like a fairytale.”

“I’m jealous. I want a boyfriend like Liam,” Beth whined and I smiled.

            “Hands off, tiger. He’s mine.”

“Oh, protective?” Beth raised and eyebrow.

“No, just keep your paws off of my man.”

“Protective,” Beth confirmed with a little laugh. Then silence fell and I felt weird under Beth’s gaze. She was staring at me and just looking and thinking about God knows what.

“What?” I asked drawing my eyebrows in.

“It’s just, I’ve never seen you like this. Happy. You’re happy, like genuinely happy.”

“I know,” I said smiling and stretching my arms up in the air as I laid down on the bed. “Isn’t it wonderful?” I said yawning.

“Jet lag?” Beth asked and I nodded. “Alright, sleep a little. You’ve got a sleepover later.”

I laughed before falling asleep faster than a rock dropping to the floor.

I felt someone shake me so I rolled over and muttered something incoherently hoping they would go away. Instead I heard a chuckle.

“Dais,” a voice prompted so I grabbed the pillow that was under my head and put it on top of my head. “Daisy!” the voice said loader and I groaned. Why can’t people just let sleeping people sleep?

I felt something tickle my arm, it felt like a feather or something. Urgh, this person just needed to go away. “Daisy,” the voice sung, “You gotta get up,” it continued, “You might be getting lucky tonight,” the voice continued and I smiled. Liam and I had a sleepover tonight. But sleeping felt so good. Liam makes you happy. Come on get out of bed, my mind tried to coax me and I groaned and opened my groggy eyes. I pulled the pillow off of my head and sat up.

            “Happy?”

“Ecstatic,” Beth said, “Now go have a shower so you can look more awake.”

After the much needed, and may I add refreshing, shower I changed into my pyjamas. It was a sleepover. I intended to be comfortable. My pyjama’s consisted of black shorts and an oversized white t-shirt. Not very fashion forward but definitely comfortable. I packed a small tote with essentials, like a toothbrush, hairbrush and a change of clothes for the morning.

She locked up her cabin and walked over to Liam’s knocking a wonderful rhythm on his door. He opened up the door and wrapped her up in a hug straight away.

“I missed you,” he said and she laughed and kissed his mouth and right on cue the butterflies swarmed and beat their wings so fast that I thought I was going to fly away with them. Like the butterflies in my stomach would carry me up, up and away.

“It’s only been a few hours,” I smiled as he closed the door, he was still holding my hand though rubbing those calming circles into my hand.

“I don’t care. It felt like days.”

“I would say I missed you too but if I’m being honest I fell asleep.”

“Of course you did,” Liam said and I laughed.

“If it makes you feel better I had a dream about us!” I lied but he didn’t know that. I just wanted to see his eyes light up and I wasn’t disappointed.

            “Really?” he asked hopefully.

“Yep, we were sitting next to each other on a couch and we were just talking.”

            “About what?”
“I don’t know,” I said frowning, “I can’t remember. But it was a good dream,” I assured him, “We made out,” I winked.

“Like this?” he said and he sat on the couch pulling me down on top of him so my legs were on either side of his. My hands fell effortlessly around his neck and his were on my waist starting uncontrollable fires of happiness in my body. Within ten seconds our lips were attacking each other.

My body ached to be closer to his and his hands told me he desired the same thing: my body against his. I kissed him like I would die if I didn’t. The feeling those unsuspecting, ordinary lips made me feel was extraordinary. I felt like I could do anything if I had Liam by my side.

Our lips mashed together and my hands found themselves messing up his hair whilst his hands created fires in my body that had on destination. My heart. Everything Liam touched sent a streak of fire straight to my heart and made it pound in my ears.

I leaned back and licked my lips and smiled.

“Exactly like that,” I assured him even though I didn’t even have a dream. If it was up to me I would have a dream about Liam Payne though, I’d have a dream about that boy every night if I could, every time I closed my eyes but unfortunately you can’t control your unconsciousness.

“You tease,” Liam joked and I laughed before pecking his lips and rolling off of him.

“What do you want to do?”

“Well, I liked what we were doing just now,” Liam said suggestively and I gave him a look. “Okay, okay,” he said holding his hands up in surrender. “Movie?”

We ended up ignoring the movie (The Last Song) that was playing on the TV and just sat all cuddled up and just talked. About anything and everything.

“What do you see your life like in ten years?” I asked Liam.

“I see us happily married with two maybe three kids and we’d live in England and you’d always complain about the crap weather and I’d tell you to suck it up and we’d live in a nice house with a big back yard and a pool and every Sunday you’d make bacon and eggs for breakfast and they’d be lovely and we’d take the kids for an ice cream after lunch and we’d be happy.”

My heart fluttered throughout his whole speech.

“I, am not cooking,” I told him and he laughed.

“Okay, fine I’ll cook the bacon and eggs.”

“You’ve given this a lot of thought,” I murmured.

“I know we’ve only been together for like a week but I’ve known you for about two months now and when I see my future I see you in it. Every step of the way.”

I kissed Liam softly and nestled my head on his shoulder and brought his hand up to my lips.

“Don’t even think about-” I started to say but my scream strangled the rest of the sentence as I went airborne through the air. I plugged my nose just in time before I plunged into the cool water. Another explosion of bubbles underwater told me that Liam had jumped in after he threw me in. I surfaced immediately to see a smirking Liam also surfacing.

I splashed him and called him a jerk.

“You love it,” he smirked and I just scrunched my face at him.

I swam over to him and wrapped my hands around his neck. His hands and feet were busy keeping us afloat as I clung on to him. I looked up at the stars and sighed. You could see every single one. They all shone brightly, like little white lights in the sky. Stars were always there but they seemed so much prettier when I was happy.

“I’ve never really noticed the stars here before,” I said and I looked back at Liam to realise he was already starring at me. “They’re pretty,” I finished.

“Like you,” he murmured and he brought one of his hands to my face as he kissed me. We forgot about staying afloat and sunk deeper into the water as our lips locked. A stream of bubbles coming from our happy mouths and then I laughed causing more bubbles. I started to swim up and Liam followed. I climbed up the ladder and sat down, my legs blocking the ladder. The night was warm and the sky was clear and the water was a mirror reflecting the pretty stars. Liam stood on the lowest rung of the ladder and we were eye level. I grabbed his face and brought mine to his.

“I think I’m falling in love with you,” I murmured before kissing his lips. Arms hung loosely around his torso as I enjoyed the kiss and My grip became tighter as the kiss progressed and I leaned closer and closer. He was too far away, I remembered thinking. Before I knew it we were tumbling back into the water and the rushing sound of little bubbles in the water whirled around my ears. Liam’s hands found my waist and kept me locked to him as I tried to swim back to the air. He gave me a kiss and I laughed, little bubbles escaping, before we both swam to the surface.

“Want to go inside?” Liam asked and I nodded. He climbed up the ladder and helped me up. As soon as I was on the balcony he pulled me too him and we started making out again. I was on my tip toes and his lips decided to go exploring down my neck, I moaned quietly, a humming of appreciation. Liam’s hands found my thighs and pulled my up, my legs wrapped around his waist, my arms on his shoulders as his lips found their way back to mine. He started taking us back inside and . . .
