~ Chapter 14 ~

I stand hidden behind a tree as I listen to Eren's sweet voice talk to Mikasa.

He grips her two hands that stand next to her sides and the evening breeze lifts her black hair gently.

"What did you want to ask me, Eren?" Her voice is laced with calmness, a calmness I have never seen on her.

"Did you want to go with me to the Scout Ball?" The tears that beaded in my eyes pour down my cheeks, and I rub them away to see Mikasa's reaction.

"Eren, I..." She began to stutter. "I thought we could all go together..." Her voice sounds worried.

"Yes, but I mean, you and me could dance..." He strokes her scarf with his fingers. My heart shatters like glass and the ringing of it pounds throughout my body, as tears flow and flow down my face.

"There are plenty of girls, Eren...I'm sure someone else..."

"Who?" He spits. "Ymir and Christa who are constantly bonded together? Potato Girl?"

"(Y/N)," Mikasa says. I turn my body so I am fully covered by the tree, and I don't dare to look back to see his face. I sob into my hands as I hear a silence fall over them.

"Mikasa, you are constantly protecting me...all I can do for you is this one dance..."

I begin to slowly walk away from the love birds, slowly at first and then I break into a run. I hang my head down and don't dare look up at anyone who crosses my path. Tears stain my cheeks and burn my throat as I race to my room. I push through a group of boys on the way to my room, and look back to see Jean, dressed up with a bunch of red flowers in his hands. I begin to cry even louder, due to the fact that Eren has heartbroken two people in one night. I continue to run through the hall as I nearly reach my room but bump in Ymir, face first.

"Where are you going at that fast pace, (Y/N)?" She asks me, chuckling. I look up with bloodshot eyes and snot leaking from my nose and Christa peeks out behind Ymir, a concerned look on her face.

"(Y/N), what's wrong?" She whimpers like an injured puppy.

"I...I..." My throat aches with every breath.

"Come now," Ymir puts her arm around my shoulder, leading me into her and Christa's bedroom.

As I walk in, I see two single beds, one made neatly with a pink cushion and another a mess of pillows and blankets. Ymir sits me down on Christa's crisp bed, and she passes me a tissue I wipe away my tears and snot with.

"What's wrong?" Christa looks up to me with deep, caring, blue eyes.

"The...the...the..." I pant.

"Calm down," Ymir instructs me. "Take a deep breath in...and out,"

I follow her instructions and take a shaking breathe of air, filling my burning lungs with musty oxygen.
