[32] Gone Like the Wind

Double update!

Reader POV

I woke up in the middle of the night three months after Fallon was born, feeling uneasy.

I jumped out of bed, throwing the blanket onto Langris and running towards the cradle at the base of the two-step platform where our bed was.

"Fallon!"

"What the hell?" Langris was annoyed at the notion of me throwing blankets onto him.

I ignored him and my eyes were wide.

The shield of ice surrounding the cradle was in shatters.

How did I not hear this?

I ran towards the cradle, my eyes wide with worry. "Fallon!"

But there was nothing but a sack of potatoes with the mark of the Spade kingdom on it.

Langris ran to where I was frozen still. "(y/n)?"

I picked up the sack of potatoes, seeing the blood on it.

"Langris, they-"

Langris's eyes filled with rage. "That brat. I knew there was something off about him."

In a matter of minutes, the entire castle and the district of Windsor knew that the prince was missing, probably injured.

"THE PRINCE IS MISSING! NO ONE LEAVES THE CASTLE. ALERT THE OTHER DISTRICTS AND INCREASE THE GUARD NEAR THE DIAMOND-SPADE BORDERS."

I stood on the balcony, my eyes red and tears trickling down my face as I held the silver blanket Fallon loved, unable to speak.

Langris joined me, now properly dressed. "(y/n)." He wrapped a cloak around my shoulders.

I didn't look at him, a sword made of ice appearing in my hand. "I thought I could trust him. I thought he was my best friend and wouldn't harm my family."

Langris simply nodded, hugging me tightly. "We all did."

I watched as the defense systems came onto each of the regions.

"Piertotum Locomotor!" Winston leaned down and slammed his palms on the floor, magic swirling through the air. "The kingdom is threatened! Man the boundaries! Protect us! Do your duty! To our kingdom!"

Statues moved, reinforced with the magic as the other generals casted the same spells.

"I've always wanted to use that spell," I heard him say.

I held my palms up towards the sky, closing my eyes.

My grimoire floated beside me, a new spell being added.

"Winter Creation Magic: Sphere of Ares."

I placed a protective shell over the entire kingdom, the sky getting dark as a thick layer of ice surrounded the entire kingdom.

This spell allowed animals to come and go freely as well as the weather, but people couldn't enter nor leave without going through one of the border checkpoints.

The spell was literally a sphere, also going underground that blocked off the ancient tunnels.

"Wow..." Langris took a look, amazement in his eyes. "I had no idea you could do that."

I turned around, fury in my eyes. "We're going to find our son."

"And what about that Grinberryall brat?"

"I cannot call a war on the Spade kingdom without proper evidence."

"But the sack-"

"I know it had the mark of the Spade kingdom, but this could've been staged. The days ahead are dark, Langris. We must execute each move with calm and collective precision."

He hugged me tightly. "Are you okay?"

"I'l be fine once I know my son is alive and in my arms," I said. "Mark my words."

In ten minutes time, I was in my war room with the heads of all five districts, each giving a briefing to me.

"This cannot go answered!" The nobleman Reilo Shiwakita slammed his fist on the table. "The district of Reina is closest to the Spade kingdom. I say we launch an attack on those bastards! It's bad enough they took our homes and destroyed our way of life, but to take our beloved prince?"

I listened to his people mutter with agreement.

"While I agree the Spade kingdom has caused us lots of harm," Roman Song said. "I don't think we should attack without proper evidence. As Her Majesty has stated, it would be cruel to blame House Grinberryall on the disappearance of Prince Fallon."

The ravenette glanced at my silent figure. "Melody will not be joining Reina in launching an attack on our allies."

Izuku Midoriya of the Midorian district nodded his head in agreement. "I agree. To rage war lacking evidence? I do not believe that is called for."

"Hmm..." the representative of the witches forest Hana Violet thought for a moment. "I must agree with both sides. But I do promise you this: should the Spade kingdom be guilty of harming and kidnapping Prince Fallon, the witches forest will join Reina in attacking."

Reilo nodded to Hana and they all turned to Aquillius Azure of the Oceanus district and General Winston of the Windsor district we were currently in.

"Oceanus will ally ourselves with what the Queen wishes," Aquillius said, a glint in his amber gaze. "And we will only answer to the Queen."

"As will Windsor," Winston said.

Langris squeezed my hand, looking at me.

"What do you propose?" I asked him.

"I believe we strike swiftly. Without mercy. There was blood on Fall's bed, (n/n). Blood. As a father, I have every right to want an answer."

I patted his hand. "Alright, I have come to a decision that will satisfy both arguments."

They all looked towards me.

I noticed Reilo's hands had balls of shadow, eagerness in his eyes.

"Given the state of the country in this event, I will declare war on the Spade kingdom. If, and only if we find the proper evidence. If we do find the proper evidence, then our efforts know no bounds, except to the Geneva accords set out a hundred years ago. Let us have godspeed in finding my son," I said. "As a mother, I know no limits. Only to find my son. But as a Queen, I must put the safety of everyone before my own needs as well as ensuring the crown will not be tampered with."

"Alright, I can work with that," Hana said.

"Now, the proper evidence. May I see the sack?" Aquillius asked.

"Certainly."

I nodded to a servant who presented the sack.

"Water Magic: A Tale of Shipwrecked Souls."

It was quiet and then a mirage appeared.

Fallon was asleep and someone with a sword encased in anti-magic and glowing red eyes was in the area and they broke the ice barrier, using gravity magic to gently place the shards down so it would not shatter and wake us up.

"You're coming with me." The person grabbed Fallon and exited the room quietly, knocking something over and stopping it, putting it back in its place and slipping through the shadows.

That's when the mirage ended.

"Holy shit..."

I released my grip on my husband's hand, walking out quickly.

"Your Majesty?" Winston tried to stop me, but I gave him a look. "I understand."

The door closed behind me and I ran out to the courtyard, using magic to transform into my ice valkyrie armor, the air getting colder and colder by the minute.

"(y/n)!"

I turned my head, my tears falling down and shattering on the ground as they turned into ice.

Langris nearly fell over on the icy floors, gripping onto a bench to regain stability. "(y/n), talk to me."

"It's my fault," I whispered. "If I had felt the mana, I would've been able to save him!"

"No, honey. This isn't your fault." He teleported right in front of me, hugging me and not caring the ice was freezing his hands and body. "This is something far bigger than us."

"What the hell-"

"You remember when we fought the Dark Triad and Zagred in the Shadow Palace? That mirage displayed energy similar. It's a devil."

I looked up at my husband. "Devil or not, I should've felt that dark mana! Fallon could be dead, Langris! Dead. And it would be my fault."

"No, don't you dare say that." He hugged me tighter. "None of this was your fault."

I felt his body go rigid. "Oh,  my apologies."

I melted the ice that was turning his skin into ice, gently pressing my lips to his. "I forgot to tell you, but you must never touch my valkryie armor, otherwise you will be turned to ice."

"I see."

"Now, I'm going to the Spade kingdom. I must sort this out with Yuno."

"No. You're not going without me," Langris said as his voice got cold to match the atmosphere. "I don't trust that asshole one bit."

I shook my head. "We must. If you come with me, I know you will attack him."

"No I won't!"

I looked at my husband, my eyes meeting his teary ones. "I know you will. So please. Have faith that I will return quickly."

He didn't look happy. "Fine. But if you're not back by dawn..."

"Don't worry about me," I said as I kissed his cheek. "I'm stronger than you think."

"Damn right. Now go. Don't make me change my decision and follow you."

I nodded. "Alright. I'll see you at dawn. I love you."

"I love you too."

We exchanged a brief kiss and I shot into the sky, a trail of ice shards going with me in the sky as I exited the sphere of Ares with no difficulty as it was my spell.

Langris POV

"You're going to follow her, aren't you?" Aquillius of the Oceanus kingdom said.

I nodded. "Hell yeah. I have a very bad feeling about this. I'll be damned if I lose someone else I love."

The blue-haired male nodded, tying his long hair into a low pony-tail with a gold band to keep it in place, golden scales appearing on his jawline. "Then I too shall follow you."

"Vale."

I clutched Fallon's small amulet charm I was to give him tomorrow for his christening, my eyes only knowing rage.

"So...." we approached a gate, seeing the ice and a small portal.

"Damn, I can't cancel her magic with my own," I spat in frustration. "(y/n), you clever vixen!"

"Let's see if I can cut through it." Aquillius suggested. "Water Magic: Blade! 9,000 PSI."

He used his blade, trying to attack the barrier.

"Shit," he grumbled. "Damn, that's one strong sheet of ice."

I punched it in frustration, an annoyed smile on my face. "That damn ice-mage."

"Oi, don't do that to your fist!" Aquillius grabbed my hand, healing it. "If you get injured, that won't do us any good."

"Right..." I looked past the shield of ice to the cave that connected the Diamond and Spade kingdoms, going directly underneath the Grand Mana Zone.

"I'm guessing you tried to go after her?" Winston said. He was with the other guardians of districts as well as Hana.

"Yep. It didn't work."

"How annoying." Izuku muttered. "But her magic far surpasses ours, which isn't a surprise considering she's got the Korenthan blood in her, as well as god magic."

The seven of us all noticed one was missing.

"Where's Kiato?" Reilo asked Aquillius.

"I don't know," Aquillius confessed. "I traveled to the temple and saw no one there."

"Oh?"

"But I did happen to notice huge toxins in the area," the blue-haired guardian thought. "And my people are cleaning it up right now. Of course, only those who are half-siren such as myself.

"I won't believe that Kaito would have anything to do with the disappearance of Prince Fallon," Roman said.

"You can't trust anyone," I spat. "In fact, I don't trust any of you."

"You're a fool to say that," Winston said sternly. "You should have faith in us as your people."

"No," Reilo shook his head. "He's a Cloverian citizen. Not from Diamond. He wouldn't understand our values."

"Excuse me?" My aura got dark. "Reilo-"

"It's Shiwakita to you, Vaude."

I glared at him. "I am your prince. You will respect me as such."

"Don't fight," Roman and Aquillius pleaded. "Queen (y/n) wouldn't want this!"

I took a deep breath and backed down. "You are right. I apologize, Shiwakita."

But you're under my suspicions!

"Please forgive my behaviour." I bowed slightly, sucking in my pride. "But tonight, I just lost my son. I cannot bear to lose my wife, as well as her kingdom."

Reilo's green eyes softened. "I understand and I apologize as well."

We all looked at the huge dome of ice.

"Now...how the hell are we getting out? (y/n)'s magic allows animals and weather to come in..."

Hana shrugged. "Perhaps we should ask the witch queen for help? I've heard her powers outrival many, and they are on par with your queen's."

"It's worth a shot."

Hana nodded. "But I warn you: only Roman can come with me. Unless you want to meet the blade of the witch queen. She really hates men."

"I don't care," I spat. "She's a mother herself, right? Imagine how she'd feel if her child was taken out of her very arms and a pool of blood found where said child was."

Hana grew quiet and used her flower magic to create a lift for us.

We got on and sped to the witches forest which had people awake and wondering why the Diamond queen encased everyone in a huge dome.
