Clock

Pov Dipper

I woke up bright and early as I see the birds chirping from outside. I went to dress before starting my day with Mabel. I wore my navy blue trousers with my white shirt and black braces. I felt a soft knock on the door and I hear my sister say.

"Are you ready? We need to eat breakfast and open the shop." I chuckled and smilled , "I already finished, Mabel. Go eat, I'll be right there."

I could her heels click on the hardwood floor the noise grew faint as she walked down the hall. I finished buttoning up my white shirt and placed my pale hands on the doorknob. I almost forgot something as I pulled the door open. My clockwork angel! How could I forget the only thing I have from my mum and dad? I grabbed my necklace and went off to join Mabel for breakfast.

I see the curtains opened as she ate her jam and toast. I joined her and we chatted for a bit before we opened the shop.

"it gets boring here," Mabel sighed.
"Mabel, we've talked about this. we tin 't leave the shop on its own because we might get robbed," i told her, "I just don't want anything bad to happen here because they told us to take care of it."
"i know," Mabel muttered, "Lets open late today and walk around the market."
"Are suggesting that we be late on opening? No." I crossed my arms, "We won't."
"Please!" Mabel begged, "We need to buy new supplies also! and- and more jam becomes we've run out."
"I mean we need more tea as well," I muttered. "Only for an hour!" Mabel stated, "And no more."

I look at her and could see the seriousness in her face. Her arms were crossed and tucked into her sides whilst her eyes were closed and head tilted up.

"Alright than," I smiled.

Her big brown eyes widen as her lips opened and cheered. I chuckled as I see her breakfast disappear quickly. She wanted to waste no time into savoring her food. This girl is something alright.

We quickly cleaned up the table and grabbed
everything that was necessary to venture. Mabel grabbed her light pink umbrella and waited for me at the door. She smiled and wraps her arm around my own and nods that she was ready.

We both strolled through the streets. I could see her eyes wander around the shops and people. It was like she never has seen the outside world before. It was odd, but it's just Mabel. She loves the outside more than anything compare to me.

"Look Dipper!" Mabel pointed, "Isn't that beautiful?"

A lovely light dress. It was a beautiful shade of red with a small bow on the side.

"Do you want to purchase it?" I asked her.
"I want to see how much it is, but if it cost too much than I couldn't." Mabel told me.
"Let's take a look," I smiled.

Mabel pulls me towards the shop and I almost trip because of her.

"Welcome!" A smooth voice greeted us, "What May I help you with?"
"I was wondering how many pounds is the dress in the window is?" Mabel asked.
"That one?" She questioned.
"Yes," Mabel smiled.
"Unfortunately, that dress isn't for sale," She apologize, "It's just a display, but we have lovely dresses similar to it."
"What do you say?" Mabel looked at me.
"What ever you like," I smiled.
"We have lovely shoes as well," She offered.
"No thank you," Mabel said, "Thank you for your service."
"Come again soon,"

Mabel and I left the shop and started to walk around the market more. Mabel pointed at the things that we needed to get for the shop.

"Five pounds and no less," A gentleman offered for a box of gears.
"The whole box?" I questioned.
"Instead of the regular eight pounds," He told me.
"The gentleman a few shops over offered a bigger box for only three pounds," I muttered.
"I'll give you two boxes of gears for three pounds," He suggested.
"Deal," I smiled.
"Pleasure doing business with you," He told me.

Mabel and I quickly walked away because we received more than we payed for. I know it isn't fair to lie, but it was difficult to make a deal with that man. It was fifteen pounds and than to five, but I knew that I wanted another box.

They're all different sizes which is delightful, but maybe the amount is uneven. They're also brand new so I know he got played. I almost feel bad, but he should have known he's the only gear gentleman here. Mabel purchase a few pastries so we can enjoy while waiting for costumers.

We started to head to back to our home which was also our shop. Three floors! Which is a lot but it keeps us close.

"Ah! The twins," Mr. Gill shouted, "I thought you closed the shop for today. I was about to head down to another shop to get my clock fixed."
"We don't want to lose you as a costumer, do we?" I smiled.
"We went to buy gears, springs, and other things," Mabel explained as I unlocked the door, "We were running low."
"It's understandable," Mr. Gill agreed, "Usually, you two would go on and shop so Joan and Oswald can keep an eye on the shop."
"Mr. and Mrs, Thompson were also getting too old," I added, "They're not as young as they used to be."
"Ah yes, I guess age is a factor to the reasoning," Mr. Gill laughs.
"Let's head inside, yes?" Mabel smiled.

We walked inside the shop and Mabel quickly went into the back to get the book. Mr. Gill had the clock in a large box that he was carrying.

"What seems to be the problem?" I asked.
"A good friend gifted this to me and all of a sudden it stopped working," Mr. Gill explained, "I haven't done nothing to it."
"Is it a clock or?" I asked questioned .
"It's a clock," He placed the box on the table.
"Take as much time," Mr. Gill told us.
"We'll try to get it to you as soon as possible," I told him.
"Thank you,"

Mabel opened the box and took out the clock. It was a little heavy, but Mabel could handle herself. She always does.

Mabel looked at me as I started to open it. A piece of paper flew out and the clock started to tic.

"This couldn't be the cause of it," Mabel muttered, "A piece of paper."
"I don't think so," I mumbled, "It has to be something else, but it's ticking just fine."
"The time?" Mabel asked me.
"Normal... maybe it's the gears that needs replacements." I suggested.
"Brother... it's empty," Mabel pointed out, "The heart of the clock is empty..."

I took a closer look and realized what Mabel had just saw. The heart of the clock isn't there, but how is it ticking?

"Mabel? Pass me my tools, please," I asked.
"Of course," Mabel hurried.

I noticed the piece of paper had writing on it.... Mr. Gill better not be fooling his. We're trying to keep the business running. We don't need childish games.

"Good Morning,"
"Ah! Mrs. Watson," I smiled, "How are you?"
"I'm very well," A soft smile forms on her wrinkling face.
"Dipper, i have the tools," Mabel smiled, "Morning, Mrs. Watson!"
"Morning to you my dear," She greeted back, "Why are you caring such dirty tools? You'll get grease all over that pretty gown."

Unlike other she never judged Mabel for staying in the shop. She never told Mabel to go back to the kitchen, clean up the house, or not to help out in the shop. When other gentleman and ladies visit they judge Mabel.

I don't think there's anything wrong with her for wanting to help and learn to fix clocks and other things. I enjoy having the company since they both pasted away. I would go help the Mrs. while Mabel would help the Mr.

Mrs. Watson only worries for Mabel's dresses because they've gotten more expensive. She used to be a seamstress.

"I have an apron on, so no need to worry," Mabel told her, "I'll make sure it doesn't ruining a good dress."
"I hope so," She chuckles.
"What can we do for you?" I asked.
"I need a new part for Phonograph," She explained, "My niece broke my pavilion piece and I can't find another any where."
"I think we have one more in the back for you," I smiled.

I quickly went to find another horn for her. I wish I remembered where I've seen it before. Ah! Here it is!

"Here you go," I smiled.
"Oh thank you," She smiled, "How much?"
"Just for you, only eight pounds for the usually sixteen." We both said.
"Such kind souls you are," She said, "Suck good kids you are."
"Have a nice day,"

Mrs. Watson gave us an extra two pounds . Such a kind woman she is. Lovely.

Mabel grabbed the things to make a clock heart so this clock can act normal. I grabbed the letter and opened, but before I could read it Mabel stopped me.

"I adore her," Mabel muttered, "Such a kind little lady."
"She is," I smiled softly.
"She told me that you reminded her of herself when she was younger," Mabel snorted.
"What?" I questioned.
"She- She told me that when she was younger that she had the body type," Mabel chuckled.
"Mmmm," I groaned.
"Don't be upset Dipper," Mabel told me, "It can be useful.
"When?" I asked.
"That's the best part! We'll never know," Mabel smiled.

Mabel started to look at the clock and she picked it. I told her to be careful because without the heart it'll be easier to break. She already knows that but sometimes she forgets.

"Look," Mabel muttered.
"Uh?" My eyes widen.
"Read the note." We both read, "A.W."

Mabel looked at the letter and than looked at me. I didn't want to read the letter anymore because I was scared. This couldn't be Mr. Gill. He's such a sweet man and if he can troubles with us he would have told us.

"Open it," Mabel said.
"I don't want too," I told her, "I don't have a good feeling about this."
"I don't like the feeling either, but it might be important."
"Alright," I muttered.
I opened it,"Dear Mr. and Ms. Pines, You read the message on the back of my clock. You are the only one that can fix this broken heart. When you fix it you'll find something new. Please, fix my broken heart before it is too late... Me. Gill does not know of this letter and does not know if my living, so don't tell a soul what you have seen."
Mabel looked closest and something was written in the corner, "You'll figure out what happened to dear old mum and dad if you fix me."
"Do you think it's true?" Mabel asked me.
"I hope this isn't a cruel joke, but we have never told anyone about mom and dad. We just told everyone that they sent us here," I mumbled.
"If we fix it... we can know about mom and dad," Mabel started to smile, "Than if they're still alive and want us to find them! And and-"
"No, Mabel," I seriously said.
"What? This could be a sign!" Mabel shouted.
"This isn't a sign," I told her, "Someone that knows about them probably sent it for us to go on a while hunt and for what?"
"To find more about our mum and dad that are....dead," It was hard to muster those final words.
"We don't know that!" Mabel wanted to believe it.
"Yes, we do," I smiled.
"I just... wondered what happened," Mabel frowned.
"At least we were getting our best chance into surviving," I smiled softly.
"I guess so," Mabel muttered.
"Let's fix the clock and then give it back to him as soon as possible," I told her.
"Okay," Mabel nodded.

Mabel and I have talked about other things as we fixed the clock. How she fancy bakers son and how he have her a loaf of bread as a gift. Haha...

"What if it doesn't work? Than what would we do?" Mabel asked.
"Take it apart and build it back up," I smiled.
"Can I put it in?" Mabel asked me.
"It's a two person job," I told her, "I have to make sure your fingers don't get crushed."
"That's right," Mabel forgot.

We both made sure that our hands weren't wet because we can have a broken finger if something goes wrong. Mabel slowly started to put it in and we heard a soft clock.

We both stepped away and looked at the front of the clock. It was ticking unusually fast but than it stopped and slowed down. A little gear person popped out.

"That's adorable!" Mabel squealed.
"I've never one of these before," I muttered.
"Didn't Dad talk about machine men? That one of his friends were making on," Mabel told me.
"He told me it was a tale," I responded.
"He talked about?" Mabel said.

Mabel went up to the small thing and poked it. All of sudden everything turned blurry and dark. I was on the floor with Mabel right across from me.

Her eyes opened slightly and she said, "W-What's happening."
I moved my hand on to hers, "We'll protect each other."

I heard a voice and soft chuckling. I hear the click of heels on the wooden floor.

"Carry them to the carriage," She ordered, "Don't hurt them! Make sure they'll chained up."

Than everything went blank.
