Chapter 22

Harley

"Quinn it's clear. Get in here." one of Joker's new goons called from the other room.

"You're some piece a work, Frankie. A girl could fall for someone like you." Harley responded walking back into the large meeting room where Robin still lay on the floor now tied up.

"Stop flirting with the hired help, Harley." Joker barked as he reloaded his gold AK-47.

"Don't worry, Puddin'. You know I only have eyes for you." she admitted walking up to him and pecking him on the cheek.

Mr.J waved her away with a free hand not bothering to look at her.

"Boss, he's found a way in through the roof." Frost reported.

"Harley!" Joker barked.

"What's he doing here? It's too early!" he yelled in response.

"I'm not finished with him yet." he said gesturing to Robin.

"I'm sorry Puddin'! Don't be angry with me!" Harley plead, looking up at him.

"Oh, you little minx. I could never stay mad at you." he admitted placing a hand under her chin.

"But go, keep him busy!" Joker ordered turning around and waving them away.

Harley grabbed her bat and revolver and skipped down the hall, Frost and a dozen thugs close behind her.

Harley and Frost intercepted Batman in one of the long corridors on the top floor of Arkham asylum.

"Hey! Scram Bats! You're ruining the party!" Harley barked as Frost held a gun to him.

"Where's Robin? And the warden?" Batman asked in his deep voice.

"I'm over here!" the warden yelled from a near by room.

"Shut up!" Harley yelled in response.

"That loony actually thinks he runs this place! Talk about crazy! Well Bats, places to go! Get him boys." she ordered as a dozen men surrounded him.

"If he gets up, knock him down, but not too rough. Mistah J. needs him!" she said as she strolled back down the hallway.

"The first boy wonder had some manners." Joker mused as Harley walked into the room.

"I suppose I'm going to have to teach you a lesson so you can better follow in his footsteps." he said, standing over Robin holding his cane.

"But unfortunately kiddo, I gotta go now" Mr.J grumbled resting a foot on Robin's back.

"It's been fun though, right?" he asked as the wounded man lay on the floor.

"Well, maybe a smidge more fun for me than you. I'm just guessing since you're being awful quite." slipping a VCR tape into Robins suit.

"But hey, please tell the big man I say... Hello."Joker said walking toward Harley, who now leaned against the doorway.

Joker

Joker and Harley now drove to one of his warehouses in the outskirts of Gotham city. No, his little game with Batman wasn't over, Arkham Asylum was now his, and that was only the beginning.

"My dear, your going to love my little surprise I have for you."

"It's been in the making for quite some time now..."

Seven months ago Batman had punched almost all his teeth out for allegedly killing Jason Todd, the first Robin in a explosion. The only proof that survived the wreck was Robin's suit, which Joker had spray painted "Ha ha ha the joke's on you" in yellow paint on the chest. He locked him up in Arkham asylum as punishment and that is where Joker got his "Damaged" tattoo from.

But what Batman never found out was that Jason Todd never died in the explosion.

"Hello? Is someone there?" Robin asked as he sat in the center of the decrepit room, bound to a wheelchair.

"Please... please help me.." Jason plead as Joker circled him, the only other sound being the click of his shoes against the broken tile.

His men had kept him in an abandoned hospital, barely keeping him alive while Joker was locked up in Arkham asylum.

"Batman? Is that you?" He asked as Joker presses the record button on the stand up camera.

"Batman's not coming to save you, Jason" Mr.J taunted standing behind him and lifting the bag off his head.

"He'll come" he stated weakly, struggled against his restrains and turning his head to find the source of the voice.

"It's been six months now, Jason. I think it's time to face the facts." Mr.J said putting his cane down then placing his hands on Jason's shoulders.

"Screw you!" Robin yelled, shrugging him off.

"That's the spirit! You're a real chip off the old bat block. Not that it'll do you any good." the clown price of crime said walking in front of him.

"When will you just kill me?"

"What? Oh no, no, no, no. I'm not going to kill you, not yet at least. You're my sidekick now, imagine it. You and me out on the streets, starting fights, picking on the weak. A regular dynamic duo! Just like Bats and that new kid of his." Joker explained taking a newspaper out of his suit jacket.

"No, he wouldn't" Todd breathed, shaking his head.

"You think? So this isn't Batman then?" Joker asked holding out the front page for him to see.

"Oh weird..The pointy ears are usually a dead giveaway." he mused standing up straight.

"Noo..." Jason almost whispered, dropping his head to his chest.

"I didn't want to show you that photo.. Really I didn't. But, well it was the only way for you to get closure." he continued, patting him on the back, then grabbing his cane.

"Now, I know it hurts, but sometimes you gotta be cruel to be kind." Joker mused before striking him on the shoulder.

Jason grunted as the chair wheeled back against the force.

The next time Joker visited Jason hung from ropes attached to the ceiling, his feet brushing the cold floor.

"What do we have here, then?" Joker asked strolling up to him, carrying a hot branding iron.

He took in a sharp breath as he noticed the Joker standing before him.

"Hmm hm" Jason cried against his gag.

"Wakey wakey." Joker mused tilting his head to the side to look at him.

"What's wrong? You think I'm going to hurt you? Why? I'm not the bad one here. Oh no, no, no" Joker explained walking around him.

"It's Batman. He's abandoned you. Thrown you away like an unwanted puppy." Mr.J grumbled pointing at him.

"Can I have him daddy? Oh, please, please, please, please, please. I'll take real good care of him." he mused in a high voice, gesturing animatedly.

He turned around and faced the other direction, acting out the play.

"Anything to make you happy princess. Just make sure people know he's yours." Joker explained in a deeper voice looking into the recording camera.

He snapped his fingers and one of his goons cut Robin down with a thud and un-gagged him.

"We don't want him to end up back here, do we?"

Joker approached Robin with the iron as he tried to crawl back away from him.

"No we don't daddy, I want to keep him forever." he jested, taking a few more steps toward him.

"No! No, please! Please no! No!" Jason wailed before he let out a piercing scream.

Now Joker stood behind the camera, Harley standing next to him, twirling a piece of her hair.

"Have you got something to tell the nice man, Jason?" Joker asked, as Robin sat in the chair without restrains, keeping his head low.

The abandoned hospital had an eerie silence hanging over it and the darkness surrounded the spotlight that now shone on Robin in the center of the room.

"My name is, Jason Todd" He said in a raspy voice the red "J" branded on his left cheek clearly visible.

"Who do you hate?" Joker asked, still behind the camera.

"Batman." he answered in almost a whisper.

"Excellent. Of course you do." Joker said walking in front of the VRC tape recorder.

"Did you get that Bats?" Kid's not yours anymore. He's mine. Mine, mine, mine. To do with as I wish." Joker stated, sticking his face near the lens.

They heard the distinct sound of the batmoblie's engine in the near distance.

Joker had left the previous footage with Robin, he knew it was only a matter of time until Batman came running.

"Hey, I never asked. What's the big secret?" He asked walking toward Robin.

"Who's the big, bad Bat? His name. Tell me!" He demanded walking around and in front of  his chair.

"Of course sir. It's-" he started before Joker pulled out his Glock.

Bang!

Jason was dead before he hit the floor, his chair falling out from under him. Harley was staring at the Joker with a smug look on her face.

"Never could stand a tattletale." Joker mused, strolling up to the camera.

Harley giggled in response as Joker leaned into the lens and eerie smile plastered on his face.

"You should try it sometime. After all, you seen what happens when you drag your friends into this crazy little game of ours."
