chapter 13

Zavier POV:

"So you actually got him grounded?" Dillon laughed on the phone, currently facetiming him.

"Basically, yes." I grinned at the thought, he was still mad at me, as expected.

"Is he with you?" I looked up to see Isaac on the other couch, making patterns on the side. His face was so concentrated that it was almost... cute how focused he was on the 'art' he was making.

"Yeah he's right here. His mom told me to babysit him." Isaac instantly stopped tracing patterns and met my gaze, his jaw clenched.

He couldn't hear what Dillon was saying because I had my airpods in but he obviously knew I was talking about him."You want to talk to him?" I offered, keeping my eyes on Isaac's challenging stare.

"Actually I do thanks."

I stood up and tried to give my phone to Isaac but he stared at it like it was a foreign object. "It's a phone Isaac. I know you got yours taken away but phones still exist."

He flipped me off then carried on doing what he was doing before, completely ignoring me.

Well, he asked for this. "Hmm, I'm thinking of calling Mrs Jones. I wonder what she would say about you not following my instructions." I smiled at him, waiting for his response.

"Fuck you Zavier." But he took the phone and I gave him the airpods, hoping he'd be enlightened at this conversation with Dillon.

Isaac barely did any talking, only saying no to nearly everything Dillon was saying, his eyes searching around the room for anything to distract him. His expression suddenly changed, appearing more agitated, his fists clenching as he got up and gave the phone and airpods back to me.

"Take your stupid lover boy back." He then stormed up the stairs like a child having a temper tantrum. I immediately turned my attention back to Dillon who was there with a gloating look. "What did you say to him?" I questioned, and why did he keep calling Dillon my lover boy?

"Oh nothing really." He blatantly lied, purposefully not making eye contact with me. There was definitely more.

"Then why did he get so mad?" I carried on pestering him, him and Isaac had been acting weird lately, and it was kind of getting on my nerves now.

"Zavier I'll call you back, I have to go do some things for my mom but I'll talk to you later."

He definitely was up to something now.

"But-" I never got to finish as he hung up on me. If Dillon wasn't going to tell me, why would Isaac tell me anything? But I was desperate to know what was going on between the two of them and I was willing to take my slim chances with Isaac.

"Isaac." I called out as I headed up to his room but no response. As expected. "Isaac." I called again, this time getting a reply.

"Go away Zavier." His defeated voice came from his room. Ignoring him, I entered his room to see him laying face down on his bed.

Could he even breathe like that?

"It's like I'm talking to myself. Do you ever even listen to what I say?" He lifted his head slightly, his words coming out less muffled.

I shrugged, "Most of the time... no." No point of lying, I thought.

He sighed, rolling his eyes.

"Why are you here then? To torment me more?" He spoke sarcastically.

"You think that low of me?" I fake gasped, feigning surprise. He didn't respond, putting his face down into his bed again.

"What did Dillon say to you?" I sat down on his bed.

He stiffened, then tried to play it off by stretching, stalling to answer. "You guys are best friends right?" He asked getting up, and I nodded. "So here's an idea, um, why don't you two talk to each other? Would that be okay?" He put on an annoying sickly sweet voice, getting up close to my face.

"You're annoying." I moved away from him, glad to get my personal space back.

"Wow, thank you for that observation Mr Reid." He laid down once again, resting his head on his arms.

"I still don't understand why Dillon won't tell me anything though." I concentrated hard, trying to think why, but no specific reason came to my head.

"Are you stupid? It's so obvious." He raised his brows at me, confusing me even more. I didn't know what was obvious.

"What is?"

"He likes-" Isaac stopped, looking like he was about to reveal the world's juiciest secret, but he stopped himself. "to do.. er... different things compared to me." He looked unsure of what he himself was saying.

"What?" I was thoroughly puzzled now but then it clicked into place for me.

"You and Dillon like each other but you have to pretend you hate each other because of me." I smiled proudly at myself for figuring that out myself. High five to me.

Isaac scrunched his nose, looking thoroughly disgusted."God no, gross. Never. Ever." He shuddered."I'm straight anyways, and even if I was gay, I'd never go for Dillon of all people." He spoke quickly... too quick. I carried on smiling at him, maybe he wasn't ready to come out yet.

"It's okay Isaac." Now it was my turn to get close to him as I placed my hand gently on his shoulder but he immediately took it off.

"Get out of my room Zavier." He pointed to the door, stone faced.

"Alright alright, maybe you can talk to me about your feelings later." I got up,"Don't be afraid to admit them." I left his room, hearing another small 'fuck you', making me smile.

Oh to be in denial.

***

Isaac POV:

"So now I'm grounded." I explained sullenly, more sad now that my mom had decided to not take my side but I couldn't say it was a shock. Zavier was a God in her eyes and I was just some peasant she had been stuck with.

"That's so fucking annoying." Gemma agreed with me. "But at least you still got to go the party." She tried to cheer me up but instead guilt washed over me, remembering the kiss. I looked at Harrison but he was looking at something on the table so I just nodded.

"You had some fun though, didn't you Gemma?" Jax grinned cheekily, pulling me towards him.

"Oh Harry, your lips feel soooo good." Jax pretended like I was Harrison, imitating kissing noises making me laugh to which Gemma flipped him off.

"Woah, what did I miss out on?" I glanced over at Harrison again, this time his head being up as he scratched the side of his head nervously.

"My man Harry over here is a whole ass sex beast." Jax laughed.

"Harrison.. really?" Who would've suspected? "Wait how do you know that?" I queried him.

"I may or may not have walked in on them by accident when I was high. Gemma said I 'ruined their night.'" He curled his fingers up, doing air quotes. I laughed even more, that must've been so awkward.

"Are you still going to the soccer tournament?" Harrison spoke up at last, changing the subject completely.

"I hope so." I grumbled, my mood now gone sour. Zavier was not going to stop me from that.

"It'll be fine." He tried to reassure me seeing my mood drop but it was too late. Now, I wouldn't stop thinking about the possibility of me not being able to go.

But my mom wouldn't do that... Hopefully.

I groaned loudly, this was wonderful. Not only did Zavier ruin things, he somehow had this twisted idea that Dillon and I liked each other.

I mean... how dumber could he be?

But I wasn't one to out people so I kept quiet, which was apparently equivalent in Zavier's books to suddenly being gay.

"We should get to gym." Harrison pulled me out of my thoughts. I nodded, getting up with him, but not before saying bye to Jax and Gemma, who was still angry at Jax for bringing up the walking in situation as a joke. Good luck to Jax.

"So... about that night." Harrison started but I stopped him. "You're going to give me PTSD, reliving the traumatic night." I joked.

He did an obvious forced laugh, "Yeah um." He scratched the side of his head, as we walked into the empty changing rooms. "You know." He did some weird gesture with his hands.

Was this guy on something?

"The what..?" I did the same gesture as him, poking fun at his anxious state. "Come on Isaac, you don't have that bad of a memory." He sighed exasperatedly.

"It's been a traumatic few days for me Harrison, please keep me in your prayers." I wiped away a non existent tear.

"The kiss, Isaac. The kiss." He let out, making me freeze.

"We already talked about it." There was nothing else to say.

It was a dare.

That's all.

"But it meant m-"

"Well, well, well, what are you two doing in here?" Zavier strolled in, Dillon following close behind him like the obedient servant he was.

What a freak.

Harrison turned around, starting to actually get changed now. "Oh I don't know.. hmm.." I pretended to think about it."Oh yeah, we're changing dumbass."

"I don't see any clothes being removed." He said in the most creepiest way.

"I'm sure you'd love to see that." I gave him a fake smile before turning around and taking off my shirt, changing into my sports one.

Zavier now fell quiet, then I heard more voices come in, the bell having gone now. I quickly changed into my shorts, so I could get out of here before everyone came. Harrison finished changing before me and waited till I was done, then we both headed to the gym.

"Do you want to talk about it now?" I whispered to him.

"No it's okay, we'll get another chance." It seemed as if he was more trying to convince himself that we'd get another's chance because to be honest with him, I would not be the one to initiate the conversation.

Slowly, more people entered the gym, the gym that was just silent, now filled with chattering everywhere.

"Alright everybody listen up." The gym went quiet as Coach spoke. "Today we're going to be playing a game of dodge ball. Nothing too serious. The two captains will be Dillon and Harrison, so pick your teams as quick as you can."

Obviously, Harrison picked me first and Dillon picked Zavier first then random people were chosen, some good, others not the best. When everyone had been picked, we got into position, ready to start.

"Remember, no violence." He reminded us.

Dillon whispered something in Zavier's ear then looked at me, making me feel uneasy. The whistle blew, forcing me to forget about their secret plans for now and focus on the game.

So far it was going okay, I had avoided being hit and we had a fair amount of people on our team. Dillon's team was losing and I could see him getting more frustrated.

He loved to win.

I aimed for a girl who stood in the corner, and threw the ball, not too harsh to hurt her, but enough that she wouldn't be able to catch it. It hit her on the leg; another member of Dillon's team gone.

The whistle blew again, "Alright everybody, take a break."

Finally.

I headed to go sit on the benches with Harrison when his eyes widened, "Isaac look out!" I turned my head but it was too late, a dodgeball was flying towards my face at full force then darkness overcame me.

So much for the break.
