alternate chapter 20

author thing: okay so this, as the title says, is a different way chapter twenty could've gone. it doesn't match with the chapters after so in a way it's a 'stand alone' thing. it's taken like twenty years cuz i left wattpad n things like that and it's very short but yk :/ also i'll try and do other suggestions people gave in the last chapter.

update: it's 2023 lmaooo, i haven't been on wattpad in so long and i'm unable to read as many comments because of some of the hate ones. but besides that, thank you sm for 2 million reads and also all the good comments. ik most of this story is messy but i honestly just did it for fun, it's not meant to be so professional so don't take it 2 seriously.

Third Person POV:

As Isaac walked up to the pitch with Zavier next to him, he could feel the quick glances Zavier kept throwing at him. He had no idea if Zavier knew he could sense them, or maybe he did know, and this was his idea of torturing Isaac.

The kiss...

Was the clear reason as to why Zavier was so suddenly interested in the details of his face like he'd never seen them before.

The air had cleared his mind- maybe he should've recommended Zavier come outside too so he wouldn't be staring at Isaac like he'd never seen him before- and he'd been able to brush off the kiss.

Well, not exactly 'brush off' as easily as he was saying, but it was a spur-of-the-moment kiss that yes, felt good, exceptionally good, maybe a little bit too good, but it didn't erase the fact that him and Zavier weren't friends. Let alone lovers.

Zavier was still an asshole and if he was being impartial to Zavier's point of view, he was still an asshole back to him.

"Stop staring at me." Isaac finally snapped, not even turning his head to Zavier but still feeling the shame Zavier had at being caught. "If you want to talk, let's do it quick." Isaac had never seen Zavier so speechless as he nodded his head, walking to an emptier part of the field.

The walk to the quieter part of the field must have given enough time for Zavier to get his ego back as he fixed Isaac with a cocky smirk. "You wanted to talk?"

"Yeah, about the kiss."

"What about it?" Zavier asked cooly as if he wasn't the one who had been stressing just that morning.

It looked like Isaac was going to be the bigger person, admitting his feelings first, cringing that he had to talk about emotions with Zavier of all people. "Okay well... I liked it." Isaac mumbled, staring down at his feet.

"Hm?" Zavier had heard though, Isaac knew he had, but it was Zavier he was talking to, he couldn't be surprised, regardless of the kiss they'd had.

"The kiss was good, alright, I know that's what you've been dying to hear, and I admit it, so maybe I'm bisexual or some shit, I don't know, and it's not like that part is any of your business." Isaac spoke truthfully, risking a look up at Zavier who wasn't watching with the cocky smirk anymore, instead a sympathetic look replaced on his face. "But it doesn't change anything between us–"

"Maybe it can." Zavier interrupted.

Isaac frowned, shaking his head. "How?" Their years of sparring couldn't just disappear like that.

"Maybe the kiss was a sign."

Isaac raised a brow mockingly at him, just managing to keep the smirk away. "You into that shit now?"

"What shi—?" Zavier scrunched his brows up at Isaac. "Anyway, no, I meant a sign of how stupid we've been with this."

Isaac shook his head again, quickly killing that line of conversation. "Look, that kiss can't make up for an apology, from either of us. It's a stupid idea."

Zavier's wall came back up again at the poke at him, becoming defensive as he folded his arms. "At least I had an idea in the first place."

Isaac scoffed, "Still a stupid one."

"Fine," Zavier stepped closer. "Next time, I'll just let you cry out all your feelings."

Isaac did the same, not wanting to be the one to be upped in game. "Fine, and next time I'll just let you go on with your fate bullshit."

They stood there, faces close to each other, just the sound of their breathing until Zavier leaned back, shaking his head and laughing. "We're idiots aren't we?"

Isaac also relaxed, falling into laughter with Zavier as he nodded. "We're like ten year olds who don't want to admit their jealousy of each other."

"Who said anything about jealousy Jones? You jealous of me?" Zavier teased, an actual tease with no venom laced in it for once.

"Oh shut up." Isaac grinned back then slowly dropped it as he looked back at Zavier. "We've finally come to an unanimous agreement. We're both idiots who have done shitty things to each other so let's apologise like the kids we are." Zavier nodded in agreement. "You first." Isaac instantly threw it to Zavier.

Zavier rolled his eyes but still went along. "Okay. To Isaac Hill Jones, I sincerely apologise for all the physical and emotional damage I may have caused from my childish behaviour towards you and those associated with you. I hope you can accept my apology and find it in your heart to forgive my unforgivable actions."

Isaac couldn't help but spurt out into laughter, bending over and holding onto his knees at Zavier's attempt at a British accent. "That was- That was... good. I didn't even know you knew enough vocab for that."

Zavier's lips twitched but he kept the smile down, keeping his chin held up. "I choose not to rise to your pointed comment in an effort to keep up my recently issued apology."

"Please for the love of God drop the accent. It's... How would you say it? 'Abysmal'."

"Okay," Zavier dropped the accent, smiling mischievously. "Now I've heard you try it I kind of get where you're coming from."

Isaac put his index finger up, tutting at Zavier. "You gotta put action in, not just words. Be kind."

"It's not like you've apologised yet."

"Yeah well, mine is not gonna be like that. I'm sorry for being such an ass to you and I promise to try my best to stop." Isaac rushed out, the silence after lasting for what had to be decades.

"Is that it? After everything I said, all you've got to say is that you'll 'try'."

"Hey," Isaac shrugged. "I never asked or expected you to say all that."

"Ungrateful."

Isaac knew Zavier had only been joking, but he couldn't help but retort back, not quite adjusted to the truce yet. "May I remind you of a list of evil things you've done to me alone in this past week that even a British accent can't compensate for?"

"No." Zavier near sulked. "I'm sorry." He apologised sincerely. "I get if you don't wanna forgive me."

"Just might take time." Isaac rationalised. "But it's better than being at each other's throats right?"

"Definitely. Much better."

"And we could always–" Isaac wasn't exactly sure what he was going to offer, but he didn't get to finish as Harrison came over, glancing between the two of them then looking at Isaac. "We gotta warmup....Are you two, uh, okay?"

Isaac shared an understanding look with Zavier then looked back at Harrison. "Yeah, we'll be there, one second."

Harrison nodded, giving a very (not) subtle warning glare to Zavier before jogging off.

"So," Zavier started as they walked away. "What's the likelihood of that kiss happening again? Just as a technicality."

Isaac shook his head, smiling. "If you carry on talking, never."

"Consider me mute then." Zavier pretended to zip his lips and throw the imaginary key away.

"Still not happening." Isaac called out loudly as he jogged to the other side, leaving Zavier behind.

Zavier watched Isaac's back as he moved away until he was lightly pushed to the side, looking to see Dillon. "Come on, we've got to train before Coach sees us standing around." Dillon pulled him in the other way he'd rather be going to.

"Yeah, sure." Zavier dismissed half-heartedly, glancing back at Isaac who was already looking at him. Isaac winked, rooting Zavier in his spot, even after Isaac had looked away.

"Why the sappy smile?" Dillon questioned.

"No reason." Zavier turned his head to the ground, certain the sappy smile had increased, and even throughout the match, when the sappy smile would start to leave, Zavier would catch one glance at Isaac and it'd be back in full bloom, but he couldn't lie and say that when he saw Isaac mirroring the same smile he had on that it didn't make his heart beat that fraction quicker.

wow it's almost like... communication does something for these two 😍 31/07
