Sam's POV:

Christopher is the smartest kid I've ever met. He got through his Science, Math, and English work without any help. It gave me time to work on my slideshow for tomorrow. I was happy that I got this opportunity, Christopher is a special kid, he's one of a kind. "Ms. Sam, I'm done with my social studies work."

"You are?"

"Yeah," I looked at his paper and he had all the answers right.

I sat back in my chair and smiled. "You're so smart, you know that?"

He smiled and his smile was beyond contagious. I smiled back and wrote '100%' on the top. "Now what should I do?"

"Well, all your work for the day is done. What do you want to do?"

"Can I help you with your slideshow?"

I smiled, "Yeah, of course." I stood up and grabbed the back of his chair. "Hold on,"

I pulled him to the side of my desk where I sat. His laughter filled the air making me smile. "So what are you going to share with the class?"

"Well, I am from Hersey, Pennsylvania. I have two siblings, Evan and Maddie. I am 26, I have only been to Pennsylvania, Michigan, and California. I majored in education at Stanford, I played Volleyball for 8 years, from 5th grade to 12th grade. When I was a Junior, we won state, I was a 4-year varsity athlete for Volleyball. I played Soccer for 10 years, from 1st grade to 10th, I was a 2-year varsity athlete. I played lacrosse for 9 years, I played from 11th grade till my Junior year at Stanford. I played year-round except for the fall, I took that off for Volleyball. I played while I was working and while I was in community college. I had a dog, her name was Zola, she died before I came to California. My favorite places to be are with my family and in Holland, Michigan it's so beautiful there in the late Spring. What do you think?"

He smiled, "I like it, you should add some of your favorite activity's."

I nodded, "Okay, let me think, I like to read, I like to write, I love nature, I love working with people, I love movies."

"Be more specific,"

I laughed, "When did you become the teacher?"

He smiled at me, "What kind of movies do you like?"

"Action, Sci-Fi, stuff like that."

"Then write that,"

I smiled, "Alright."

Christopher and I continued to work on my slideshow and the bell rang. "What does that mean?"

"Recess,"

"Okay, did you want me to go outside with you?"

"Yeah," Christopher said, something seemed off though.

I knelt down to be level with him, "What's wrong?"

"I just don't have many friends."

"Well, I'll be your friend. I can help you make some new friends, okay?"

He smiled, "Okay."

"Let's go, then." He led me outside and I followed behind him. I looked out at the playground and then smiled at Christopher, "What do you want to do?"

"I want to play soccer, but I'm never quick enough to get a ball."

I tilted my head, "Where do they keep them?"

He pointed to a green box, "Over there."

I nodded, "Wait here, I'll be right back." I ran over to the box as quickly as I could and grabbed a soccer ball. I smiled to myself and ran back to Chris. "Got one," He smiled, he made his way to the field and I followed, the ball was at my feet and I was dribbling it. Christopher stopped and turned towards me, "Be careful, I don't want to get fired on my first day."

He smiled, "I'm ready."

I lightly kicked the ball towards him. He stopped it and was leaning forward on the posts that help him walk, he kicked it back and I was impressed. The ball almost made it to me and I smiled. "Great job! That was well done."

"Thanks," I kicked the ball back and he stopped it, he then kicked it back and it went to the side. "Sorry,"

I shook my head and smiled. "Don't be, it's alright."

"I've never played before."

"Really? You're a natural kid."

I heard him laugh as I got the ball and lightly kicked it back. A kid from the classroom came by and smiled at Chris, "Hey, Christopher."

"Hi, Gabe."

"Do you mind if I pass the ball with you?"

"Not at all," Chris looked at me, "Do you want to make a triangle?"

"No, go ahead and pass with Gabe. I'll be here if you need me."

"Okay," I took my phone out and took a picture of Chris passing the ball, I was always naturally good at taking photos. I already had the app for the school downloaded and I was signed into Mr. Lance's class. He added me this morning, I posted the picture of Chris passing with Gabe. I smiled to myself and watched the two boys pass back and forth.

This kid is truly special, I can't wait to get to know him better...

Eddie's POV:

My phone buzzed on the ride back from a call. We had to deal with a jumper, thankfully Bobby was able to talk him out of it. I looked at my phone and saw it was from the school. My heart jumped as I opened the notification, but slowed as soon as I saw it was a photo of Chris playing soccer. I smiled, "He looks happy," Buck said while looking over my shoulder.

"Yeah, he got a new assistant teacher today."

"Yeah? That's cool."

I nodded, "She seems really nice. I just hope she treats my kid right."

Buck laughed. "You worry too much."

"I have reason to worry, unlike you. Mr. I care about myself and that's all."

Buck started laughing even harder which made me smile. "Okay, not true. What about Maddie? I care about my family."

"Uh-huh."

I was driving to the school, Carla had to cancel today. I was late, school ended 30 minutes ago and I felt horrible, Chris is probably going to be upset with me.

I pulled into the parking lot and took my seat belt off, I walked to the playground and looked around for Chris when I saw him on the soccer field. He was kicking the ball with a woman and she looked like the same woman from this morning, Sam. I smiled and watched for a moment, I never knew that Chris liked soccer. Sam looked at me and walked to Christopher, she pointed at me and Chris smiled at me. "Daddy!" He started walking towards me, I met him halfway. Sam was behind him with the soccer ball tucked under her arm.

I picked my son up and hugged him. "Hey, buddy. Sorry, I'm late,"

"It's okay, Ms. Sam and I were just playing soccer."

"Is that so?" I asked and looked at Sam. She smiled at me and I set Chris down. "Where's your backpack at?"

"By the swings,"

"You wanna go grab it?"

"Yeah," he said with a smile.

As he walked away, I turned to face Sam. "I'm so sorry,"

She shook her head, "Don't be. He's a great kid." She started smiling, "You've raised him really well. He's incredibly smart for his age, you must be proud, he's got a lot of potential."

I was taken back. None of his teachers ever said anything like that before. "Thank you, for everything. School has never been one of his favorite places but knowing he has someone to watch over him that actually cares makes me feel a lot better."

She smiled at me and nodded, "Of course, I mean it's not just my job, I feel obligated to help. I'm glad I moved here."

"Where are you from?"

"Pennsylvania, then Palo Alto, now here."

I smiled. "I'm glad you're here too." I saw a faint red fall onto her cheeks which made me smile. Chris walked back over with his backpack and it was perfect timing. "Ready?"

"Yeah,"

"Alright, let's go."

"Bye Ms. Sam. See you tomorrow."

"Bye Christopher!"

I gave her a small smile before turning around and walking away with my son.

~~~
"So how was school?" I asked.
"Really good," Christopher replied. I was shocked. Usually, he says 'okay' or 'fine' but today was 'really good'.
"Yeah? What made it so great?"
"I like my new teacher, Ms. Sam."
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah, after I finished my work, she let me help her work on her slideshow for tomorrow."
"What kind of slideshow?"
"A get to know you one."
"Oh yeah, what kind of things did you help with?"
"I told her to be more specific,"
I laughed. "You told your teacher that?"
"Yeah," I could see his smile in the rearview mirror.
"You're definitely my kid."
"She's 26, she went to Stanford, she has two siblings, and she used to play a ton of sports. We also found out she's single, someone asked her."
I laughed. "What're you saying?"
"I'm not saying anything."
I shook my head but the smile never left my face and I couldn't get Sam's smile out of my head which made me smile more...
