Myles' POV

   I was late to enter school today, Trevor didn't wake me up so I overslept. As I entered school I saw everyone rushing to the noticeboard and I knew that the names for the duets had been pinned. I walked over to the noticeboard and I see her name, Briar Nolet. It's not that I had anything against her it's just that Tess was my best friend and I had to stick by her, I never said anything to Briar to make her feel bad, I wasn't that type of person but I knew Tess wouldn't be happy about it.

  "Hey bro who'd you get paired up with?" I asked Trevor. "Brittany dude, do you believe it?" "That's cool" I replied. "Hey would you mind switching partners with me, I got Briar and I know that it's gonna cause me some problems, and I don't really know her that much." I said. "Dude Briar is totally awesome, she's like a sister to me, you guys have a lot in common I'm sure it'll be alright don't even worry about it." (see what I did there?) "I know but can you switch with me, come on bro please" I asked again. "Sorry bro but come on I was paired up with Brittany and you know I liked her for a long while now I'm sorry, and give Briar a chance she'll impress you" I knew Trevor was right but what was Tess going to say? My life didn't have to depend with whatever she said but we have been friends since childhood, my mum was her mum's best friend, maybe that's the only reason I'm Tess's friend. Since my mum left, her mum was the only way I could get to know about my mum and liked it or not I had to be Tess's friend.

  After hip hop class I decided to go and talk to Briar and see when we could work on our duet. "Hey Myles, who'd you get paired up with" Tess asked me. I hesitated for a second, I didn't know if I should tell her that Briar was my partner but I didn't want to lie to her. "Briar Nolet" I said "what?!Briar, dude you can't team up with her" she demanded. I was sick of her always bossing me around. "why not?" "because she's Briar" she answered. "I don't think that's a good enough reason for me not to team up with Briar, she's a great dancer and I want to see how we work together" I replied. "But Myles, we were supposed to be paired up together, we're always paired up together" she wined. "Well this time it's different, and maybe different is good, I don't know Briar that much but Trevor does he told me she's a nice girl, I never understood why you always picked on her" I said. "Because she's always seeking attention, and besides you care about what Trevor thinks but you don't care about my thoughts" she said. "Tess of course I care, you're my best friend but there's nothing I can do, besides I'm sure that the principal would never let us switch partners, it'll be okay" I replied.

   Tess always bossed me around, I don't know if she thinks that she is doing it for me or for her, but for once I stood up to her. I walked up to Briar while she was getting her books from her locker and decided to speak to her. "Let me help you" I said as I saw her struggle to put a book at the top shelf. "You know you're not that taller than me...but thanks" she replied. "No biggy, I wanted to speak to you about the duet, maybe see when and where we could do it." I replied. "Yeah I was gonna come find you, I was thinking maybe we could meet up in the old music room, no one is hardly there and they don't use it that much since they got the new dance studio so I think it'll be fine, I'll talk to the principal and see if that's okay" she kindly replied. "Yeah that's great, how about we meet there at four o'clock?" I replied "Sounds good" she answered "great, see you later then" I replied "see ya" she said with a kind smile as she closed her locker and walked away. 

   Briar was very kind, I don't know why Tess told me she was mean and horrible, all I saw was a really kind and sweet talented dancer, maybe this duet thing wasn't going to be as horrible as I thought.
