Twenty Seven

"We should go back to my house," Klaus suddenly suggests, making Caroline look up from her work.

"What?"

"It's so quiet here. Wouldn't you rather be at my house where we can talk normally and not be shushed for talking above a whisper? Plus, I really want a coffee. So, what do you say?" he asks, smiling.

"Okay, why not?" Caroline shrugs, standing and grabbing her stuff as Klaus does the same, taking his keys out of his pocket.

The two head to his car, which is a gorgeous looking black Jeep- way out of her price range.

"Your car is... expensive."

"My parents bought it for me when I was sixteen. They insisted despite the fact I told them I didn't want a car given to me, I wanted to buy my own," he sighs in annoyance, clearly still bitter about the situation,

"Do they do that a lot?" she asks him as they take off down the road.

"My parents? All the time. They love flaunting their money to anyone who will listen. I despise it," Klaus rolls his eyes.

"I'm sorry they sent you off to your aunts and uncles this summer. It's a shitty thing to do," she adds.

"Seems like my family loved it when I was away..."

"Kol still loves you, Klaus. He's your little brother. Even if he doesn't admit it, he looks up to you. I can tell. You guys just need to try... you're much more similar than you two think," she advises, causing him to clutch the steering wheel harder.

"Every time I try to talk to him he just brushes me off."

"I'll talk to him, okay?"

"You would do that?" he asks, his head turning to her quickly before returning back to the road.

"Hey, if you and I became friends then anyone can," Caroline giggles, nudging his side playfully.

"We're friends?"

"Shut up," she laughs.

"No, seriously! This is news to me. Last time I thought you were mad at me," he smirks.

"Obviously we're friends, Klaus," Caroline blushes.

The ride to his house is silent after that, Klaus hiding a smile the whole time.
