Thirty Eight

Two weeks. Two weeks of not talking to Klaus. Two weeks of having to awkwardly mumble something to him in science when being forced to be partners. Two weeks of them denying their feelings for each other.

And most importantly, two weeks of loneliness without each other.

"Care, can we talk?" Kol's voice takes her out of reality for a second, her eyes meeting his.

"Sure, what about?" she asks, gathering her stuff from her locker as the bell rings. Floods of kids pour into the hallways, ready to leave for the weekend to start.

"It's about Klaus," he mumbles.

Her heart races at the mention of his brother.

"What about him?" she ponders what Kol could possibly want to talk to her about involving Klaus. Last thing she knew, Kol wanted nothing to do with his brother.

"He's acting out again, Care. He hasn't been home the past three nights, and Marcel won't tell me where he is. I have a feeling he's been spending the night at his place, hiding out from our parents," he explains with a worried tone.

She frowns, "why would he be hiding from them?"

"They sort of got into this huge fight about responsibility and how he's immature and how they don't like his friends, blah blah blah. Look, he was really upset about it all. I have a feeling it's because of what happened," Kol states, his voice getting quieter.

"So what do you want me to do? I haven't spoken to him in weeks, Kol. I doubt he even likes me anymore. He probably hates me-"

"Don't say that, Care. He would never hate you, trust me. If anything, you're the person he needs the most right now. I want you to talk to him."

"He's probably mad at me. We got into a huge fight and things didn't end well that night. I just... I wish I could take it back, you know?" Caroline vents.

Kol nods, "I've kind of been thinking recently."

"What about?" Caroline asks.

"I want you and Klaus to continue whatever you had," he states.

Caroline gawks at this, surprised by his sudden positive outlook on Klaus and her's relationship.

"You what? But Kol-"

"I saw how happy you were with him, Care. That's all I want for you. I want you to be happy, and if not with me, then with him. It might hurt like a son of a bitch, but I don't care. I can't keep letting my own selfish feelings get in the way of your happiness. You two are clearly both miserable without each other, and don't even try to deny that. So yes, I want you to fix things with him," Kol states, a small smile making its way into his lips.

She leans up, hugging him. She can't even believe his words. They scare her, though. Now that he's out of the problem, there's nothing stopping her from starting a real relationship with Klaus. She just fears being left heartbroken again, like she was with Tyler.

But deep down, she knows Klaus would never do something like that. Not to her.

"Are you sure about this?"

"I'm sure," Kol responds.

Caroline nods, "okay then. What do you want me to do?"

I can't believe this book is almost over! It's kind of unreal to me how much popularity it's received in such a short amount of time.

There are 2 chapters left, for anyone wondering. The final chapter will be chapter 40!
