We sped down the street in my police car, "I'm gonna be in so much trouble if they find out we were there."

The woman sat next to me in the front wile Ryan, Graham and Grace sat in the back.

Sheย spoke, "can we have the lights and siren on?"

"No! I shouldn't be doing any of this." I replied angrily.ย

"So you three know each other?" She continued.

"I'm Ryan's Nan." Grace said. "Graham's me husband."

"Second husband." Ryan spoke grumpily.

"And you two know each other?" She gestured to me and Ryan.

"Yeah, Yaz and I were at school together."

"Not Yazmin Khan?" Grace asked.

"Hello Ryan's Nan!" I greeted happily.

"Haven't you done well for yourself, love!"

"And you say you just found it there, this thing?" She continued, diverting the conversation back to the topic of aliens.

"Yeah, pretty much." Ryan answered. "I took pictures." He handed her his phone.

"Good lad!"

She stared down at the phone, "that's exciting! No, not exciting. What do I mean? Worrying. Fast as you can, Yaz."

"There's my bike." Ryan said, pointing to a small red bike high up in a tree.

"Why's it in a tree?" I asked.

"We were up top and I chucked it over."

"He gets cross cos he can't ride it." Graham added.

"We're giving him lessons, he's got dyspraxia, it's a coordination disorder." Grace followed on.

"Anyway! Enough about me!" Ryan groaned, "the trees to the left so it should be..."

The forest floor was icy and cold, "it was definitely there!" Yaz said.

I crouched, shuffling slowly round the ring of ice, "so where's it gone?"

"Two weird things, one city, same night, makes me nervous." I sighed, we stood beside the car in the deserted dark street.

"I'll see if there have been any more reports on that object." Yaz reassured, climbing back into the drivers seat.

"Good, cos we need all the information we can get. Meet us back here."

She nodded, starting the engine and driving off.

"I could have a word with some of my old pals from work." Graham suggested " I mean, if you wanna know what's happening, ask a bus driver." ย

"He always says that." Ryan fired.

"Yeah well that's cos it's true! I'd still be doing it now if I could."

Ryan pulled out his phone "I can search for weird stuff on social media."ย

"And I'll check in with my nurses group on WhatsApp." Grace added.

Graham looked me straight in the eye "Seriously though. Aliens?"

"Yep!"

"Yeah, maybe I won't mention that but." Graham jogged off.

"Suddenly I feel really tired." My hearts clenched and I bent forward slightly, hands on knees.

"That was a big fall you had, love. We should get you check out in A&E." Grace place a hand on my back.

"Oh no, no I never go anywhere that's just initials." I rushed. "Although..." wedging my finger up my nose and tilting my head back, I felt my heart beat in my head. "Ah, can one of you catch me?"

"You gonna fall over?" Ryan asked hurriedly.

"Two minutes, nineteen seconds. Wait! Forget the two minutes. Nineteen... oh, this new nose is so unreliable..."

Then everything went black.

I rushed into my station.

"Yaz, you've done your shift! Stop pestering me for more interesting shouts!" My station House Officer shouted as I followed him through the building.

"It's not that. In just wondering whether there's been anything else out of the ordinary tonight!"

"It's the night shift in Sheffield. Everything's out of the ordinary." And he slammed the door in my face.

"I've gotta ask you, any talk of weird stuff or strange creatures out tonight?"

"My wife's out with her mates at karaoke, if that's what you mean." Kevin answered and laughter erupted from the small group.

I scrolled through my Instagram, finding nothing out of the ordinary. Nan walked past me, gazing over at the small blond woman, passed out on our sofa.

"Ryan, look."

I stared down at her, wisps of golden energy danced on her skin, all the way up to her neck. The ragged suit lay baggy off her small frame.

"Whoa.." I murmured.

"She's got two, separate pulses." Nan whispered, gently holding the woman's pale wrist in her dark hands.

A wisp of light flouted from her mouth, gliding slowly through the window.

We both gazed at it, "oh my god. What is that?" I asked.

"I have no idea..."
