CHAPTER FIVE
break-in

I opened the door, the creaking of it squeaking through the entire house and I winced. "Please don't wake up." I sighed under my breath as I looked around the still quiet household. I quickly made my way out, shutting the door as quietly as possible right before rushing to Taehyung's car.

"Hey." He greeted as I entered the passenger side.

"Hey." I smiled back at him as I fastened the seatbelt. "So, are we going to that place?" I asked the moment he started driving.

"I had somewhere a little different in mind." A subtle smirk displayed on his lips.

"I thought you wanted to go to Woods Field?" I looked at him with a slight frown.

"Well, I changed my mind." He passed me a swift glance right before glueing his eyes back to the road. I admired the way his eyes creased into little crescent moons as a shy smile spread across his lips. My eyes trailed down to his arms, noticing how his sleeves were rolled up till his elbows, accentuating his lean arms.

His head then tilted down to look at me, and my face went hot the moment I realised that he caught me staring. I heard a faint chuckle escape his lips as he tried covering it up with a cough.

I know that we were friends and just that, but I'd be lying if I said I felt nothing. Taehyung just understood me, in a way no one else had. When it came to art or anything for that matter. I'd just say a word and he'd get it in a second. Whenever we held a conversation that went deeper than all the superficial stuff, I'd feel a little spark.

But I couldn't allow myself to go further with it, whatever it was. I couldn't do that to Yeona.

"We're here." He peeped as we stopped in front of an art museum.

My brows furrowed, "it's closed." I said, looking at him with uncertainty, not really sure what he had in mind.

"Or you could say I reserved the entire place for us." He gave a little shrug as his lips continued to tug upwards.

"What?" I laughed, confused.

He sighed a little as he took out a keycard from his jean pocket. "One of the workers dropped it when I came here the last time." Taehyung bit his lip to stop himself from smiling like an idiot.

"So instead of giving it back to the worker you chose to keep it so that you can break in." I ask as I looked at him with amusement and hints of disbelief.

"Wrong. So that we can break in." He got out his car hastily.

"Won't there be security, or cameras?" I asked, slightly nervous. I was never one to go against the law.

"Don't worry about it, it'll be fine." He laughed to himself as he stuck his hand out, waiting for me to grab it.

"Have you gone insane?"

"We could go back if you want." His expression dropped, afraid that I wasn't on the same page as him.

I gulped, feeling the adrenaline kicking in as I thought about breaking into the art museum with him. "No," I breathed out. "Let's do it." My neck craned up as my eyes met his.

He reached out, his skin brushing against mine and there it was again. That spark. He intertwined his fingers with mine, a bright and mischievous grin breaking through the shy smile he had on a few seconds ago.

"We have to be quiet, the door's at the back." Taehyung whispered down at me and came to an abrupt halt the moment we were faced with a security guard. Our breaths get caught in our throats as we tensed up, his hold on my hand tightening.

"He's asleep." I pointed out softly as I studied the elderly man that laid on the chair. He had his arms crossed and mouth agape, drooling a little at the corner of his lips. "How are we going to enter?" I asked, realising that the door was right next to him.

"Just follow me and you'll be fine." He said and for some reason, I trusted him without a doubt.

Taehyung finally released his grip on my hand, digging through his pocket for the keycard. The next moment, he slid it against the barcode reader and it beeped, the red light turning green. "Go, go!" He shoved me with a soft chuckle as he pushed me into the museum.

I walked ahead of him, reaching the first level and a gasp left my lips instantly.

"These weren't here before." I stared at the sculptures and paintings that obviously didn't belong here.

"There was an exhibition here today, they loaned these collections from an overseas museum." He stated, eyes fixed on the artworks. "Which is why I thought to bring you here."

I turned to look at him, head tilted to the side with my brows knitted together to convey my confusion. I wonder how he knew all of this and as though he had heard my thoughts, he chuckled. "Like I said, the internet's as good as a class." He answered as his eyes went back to focusing on the art.

We walked around for a bit, "what now?" I voiced out my curiosity and I turned to look at him holding up his phone, taking pictures of me. "Hey!" I laughed, raising up my hands up to shield my face.

"Come on, we're in an art museum. We have to take pictures." He was close to whining and I rolled my eyes with a subtle smile.

"Fine," I said in defeat, allowing him to take pictures of me in front of different artworks.

"Your turn, come on." I beckoned him with my hand but he shook his head.

"I don't do pictures." He let out as he averted his gaze and a scoff made its way out of my mouth.

"You just forced me into a mini photoshoot." I crossed my hands over my chest as I narrowed my eyes at him. "I'm not taking no for an answer." I said and he laughs.

"Too bad then," he shrugged, a playful smirk lingering on his lips.

"Too bad for you," I fished out my phone, getting ready to take a photo of him but he starts running.

"Taehyung!" I whisper shouted as he ran away from me.

"You can't take pictures of me if you can't find me!" He yelled back.

"What are you, 5?" I laughed in disbelief as he continued running. With a sigh, I chased behind him and we ran around the museum stealthily like little children who were disobeying their parents.

"It's a dead end," I sang softly under my breath as I watched him enter a room. I go behind him and noticed he chose a room filled with sculptures. I walked around, admiring the art whilst trying to find Taehyung and then I come to a halt.

"What?" I stared at the Italian sculpture that was in the room. I wondered how the museum could have loaned such a great piece of art like this. I walked closer, wanting to take a picture of the statue by Salvatore Albano but before I could, a loud clink makes me jump out of my skin.

"Taehyung?" I called out, staring at the sculptures that were in the room and I felt a chill run down my spine. I could barely make out the other artworks, the darkness of the room messing with my vision along with an eery feeling crawling up my body with goosebumps.

"Okay, I'm done and officially creeped out." I chuckled, trying to hide my nervousness. I notice a quick yet subtle movement in the corner of the room and I flinched. "Taehyung? You can come out now." I say, taking tiny steps towards him.

"I'm putting my phone away." I said as I stuffed my phone back into my pocket, "you win. No pictures. Now can we go?" I said and stopped the moment I noticed him crouched in the corner.

"Taehyung?" I breathed out, my heart now beating out of my chest. The fact that the room was close to pitch black wasn't helping, my imaginations ran wild. He started to move a little, getting up and I feel myself go a little at ease.

"Can we leave?" I asked as he slowly straightened himself. He was moving oddly slow and then everything starts clicking in my head the moment I realised his physique was much bigger than Taehyung's.

"You're not Taehyung." I choked up, taking a sharp turn to run but I hit a sculpture instead. It towered over me, the white clay reflecting what little light that was left in the room but all of a sudden, it goes dark.

I couldn't understand what I was seeing, getting absorbed in the way the sculpture morphed before me until a noise from behind me snapped me back into reality. I glance back, realising that the male was no longer there and I started getting anxious.

I moved past the sculpture, trying to run out of the room but I walked into something again. I squealed, almost falling to the ground but I feel something secure itself around me as it kept me up.

"Hey," the voice was laced with worry. I peer my eyes open, only to see Taehyung holding onto me firmly. "Jina?" His eyes searched mine. "Oh my- you're shaking." His arms slid from my arms to my waist as he held my trembling form tightly.

"There's-" and I turned back to look into the room that was now empty. "There was-" I breathed out and I pulled away, drowning in confusion as I stared at the empty room.

"There was a man in the room." I said and Taehyung held my arm, pulling me behind him instinctively. "But there were also sculptures in it," I muttered under my breath and he turned to look at me.

"There's no one here." He said and I looked to the ground.

"I swear, there was someone in there." I gulped, still shaking.

"I believe you," he nodded. "It was probably just a janitor or something." I could tell he was trying to calm me down. "Maybe we should go, you're freezing." He touched my arm once more, rubbing it in hopes of causing a little friction to warm me up. "My coat's in the car, let's go get it." He said and all I could do was nod.

Taehyung's hold on me never left as I clung onto him. We got out the museum stealthily, not waking the guard as we made our way towards the car.

"Here," he passed me his coat and I wrapped it around myself as I remained silent. "Are you okay?" He asked cautiously and I nodded.

"Yea, no. I'm fine." I nodded, hugging myself tightly the moment I feel myself shivering. I had no idea why I was so cold.

"He didn't do anything, did he?" He asked, eyeing my fearful state as worry built up in his voice and I shook my head almost instantly.

"No, I guess he freaked me out. That's all." I could see the look of slight doubt in his face and I hadn't even told him about the sculptures yet.

"Well, let's get out of here."
