Maybe I Like Annoying

(A/N): i am begging you guys when you see I forgot a title or it didn't load in can you yell at me because it happens so much 😭😭

"Kids!" Your father's voice rang loud through the house, overtaking the booming of your music just barely, "I'm headed out for the evening! If you light the house on fire, try to burn alive outside of it so I don't have to search for your ashes!" With your phone in hand you roll your eyes without looking up to shout back,

"Thanks, dad! I appreciate the instructions!" Normally you'd humor him back with a little teasing of your own, but you currently had more than enough on your plate to deal with. You had been trying to get ahold of one of your insufferable partners for the last two hours and neither would text you back; it was getting on your nerves, but you were trying to let the vibes of your music tamp down your temper enough not to work yourself up about it.

You- Come onnnnnnnnnn Danny please we have to meet up a few more times to get all this done before the deadline

Tapping in another text, you can't help but think, Jesus, I'm annoying, and you found yourself grinning. Danny deserved it for ghosting you, and, well... you'd be lying if you said bugging him wasn't your very favourite thing to do.

You- Danny bestie I'm giving you one more minute before I pull out my trap card

It was clear that Brahms' slang was rubbing off on you (it was rubbing off on Michael, too, which was HILARIOUS and the guy hated it) but you didn't care. It only added to the annoyance factor, and you were currently aiming to get that as high as possible. You waited exactly one minute, not a second longer, before biting your bottom lip to hold back a giggle as you loaded up your secret weapon; if Danny really was looking at your texts and just ignoring them- like you guess he is- then this will get him to answer.

You- Okay, if you won't answer I'll just skate over to your place myself. See you in twenty.

Not even three seconds passed before he was typing back, three dancing dots bouncing merrily as he did so. Your snicker broke free, success bubbling in the pit of your stomach as you sat forwards swiftly to kick your blankets off of your legs.

Danny- NO

Danny- You dint hav e to doo thqt

Your brows knit together, swooping low at the jumble of letters. It was decipherable, but hardly.

You- You okay? What's with the typos

Again, the ellipses appeared in a promise that, yes, Danny was typing again. It bounced for a few seconds then disappeared, then reappeared and vanished once more- a second later your phone screen lit up with an incoming call. Your eyebrows creased deeper, a confused smile overtaking the giddy one you'd had on moments earlier, as you reach your thumb up to tap 'accept' and move the phone to your ear.

"Hello...?" You ask, holding back a snippet of laughter. You could hear Danny shuffling around on the other end, hurrying up a set of stairs and slamming and locking a door behind him before he answered.

"Hi, sweetheart, sorry- my momma-" He cut himself off, sucking in a deep, embarrassed breath before letting it out in a huff and forcing the words out, "My momma has my hands bandaged to hell and back from that fight. I can hardly move 'em. What do you want?" Holding in yet another snicker you swung your legs over the side of the bed, beginning to kick your feet.

"Well," You hum, "Isn't it obvious? I want to plan another stupid get-together for that english project. I've been trying to get to you and Chrissy all night, and neither of you would answer." Now it was Danny's turn to laugh, starting with something low and light that quickly escalated into a more raucous sound, nearing a hysterical howl.

"Oh, I forgot! Pahaha!" You could basically envision the sight of him slapping his hand over his face to rub at his eyes, his grin reaching from one ear to the other, his cheeks a rising red- you shoved the thought away and forced your face into a grimace rather than the stupid smile it was, for some reason, begging to wear. Some people just had contagious laughter, you tell yourself, thinking only for the quickest moment that maybe that's not entirely true.

"What? What are you laughing at, asshole? Come on, spit it out!" You hop to your feet and cross your arm over your chest, resting the elbow of the hand holding the phone on top of it as you began to pace your room.

"She- she texted me earlier saying that she- t-that she-" Danny lost himself in another fit of laughter and you heard the sound of his bed creaking under his weight as he dropped down onto it. Now, you imagined him leaning forwards to set his elbows on his knees, wiping stray tears from his eyes. Your cheeks began to glow a faint red. "Jesus, sorry- she- she blocked you, she said." Now, his voice went back to the near-monotonous deadpan it usually was, blocking out most of his emotion. Your own face went slack, your jaw dropping in distaste.

"That bitch!" The words came out dripping in acid and that alone sent Danny back into a fit. Again, your own smile cracked and your cheeks glowed redder. There was something so satisfying about hearing that sound, and being the one to get it out of him. "That whore! That cunt!" You continued tossing names around, grinning wider and wider with every new cackle that tore from Danny's lips on the other end of the phone. You heard the breath puff out of him as (you imagine) he flopped backwards to collapse against his bed, hand on his face and elbow pointed up towards the ceiling. "That absolute wank-stain-"

"Can you shut the fuck up?" You let out a cry and whirled around on your heel towards the door, where August was stood with his headphones around his neck and his cellphone in his hand. He looked both bored and amused at the same time, and expression that only he could pull off the right way. Danny was still laughing out a lung in your ear, now howling louder at the sound of your startled cry- it took all of your willpower to contain the grin that made your lips wobble and your throat swell up.

"Watch your language, you little shit," You hiss at him and hurry for the door, going to slam it right in his face when he took a step forwards and stopped you.

"Hypocrite. I can tell dad you know."

"Ooooh, go kid! Hey-" Danny raised his voice to shout into the phone, making sure August could hear him even from such a distance, "If you tell on (Y/N) I'll give you 50$!"

"Danny- No!" You plant a hand on August's chest and shove him backwards with a roll of your eyes, not even noticing that you had dropped Danny's name and watching as August's eyes lit up at the opportunity to tease, as usual.

"You're talking to Danny?" He cooed, and then stuck out his lips in an exaggerated kissy face, smooching at the air. You rolled your eyes yet again, flipping your brother off quickly before slamming and locking your door, just like Danny had done to his on his end.

"I'm so sorry, I swear to God one day I'm gonna leave that kid in a Walmart parking lot and never come back-" You were cut off as Danny began mimicking your brother, kissing sounds resonating through the phone and making you pull it away from your ear because it was just so cheesy.

"My oh my, DANNY?! That hot, hunky bad boy from your school?" He sneered into your ear, and then broke off again with one last bout of laughter. This boy was going to be the death of you.

"No, Danny the asshole who I'm going to hang up on and never talk to again if you don't-"

"No no I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" He cleared his throat, letting out one last chuckle before heaving out a breath and speaking again, "I'm calmer now, you don't have to hang up." Your stomach flipped, fluttering with a billion little bugs at that.

"Good, fine. You've got one more chance before I do it." You're smiling again whether you like it or not and now your face feels warmer than ever. You open your mouth to speak again and then there's a scratching at your window. "Oh, shit, one second," You say and hurry over to it, popping it open to see Claude slink his way inside; he's paid you a visit nearly every night, though he often didn't stay for long.

"What was that sound? Did you open a window?" Danny hummed, curious, and you nodded your head before realizing he wouldn't be able to see it.

"Oh-" You laugh to yourself and drop to your knees, Claude coming to rub against your now outstretched hand, "Yeah, I did. My neighbour has a cat that swings by sometimes. Scratches at the window til I let him in." You heard a little gasp, and then Danny cleared his throat as he recomposed himself. "I can tell you like cats?" You nip at your bottom lip again; cute.

"I mean, I don't like- I don't-" He failed at finding an excuse. "Yeah, okay, I fuckin' love 'em." Your heart swelled, and you couldn't stop from letting out a low 'awwwww' that Danny quickly scoffed at. "Oh shut up, honey. If you tell anyone I'll beat you worse than I did Freddy."

"As if. You'd never hurt me, you're too much a coward. You know I'd put up a fight." Danny laughed again, tamer than before. You stood and crossed the room to your bed, flopping down into your pillows. Claude joined you soon after, rumbling like an engine and curling up by your hip. There were a few beats of silence, and in them you were met with a plethora of different thoughts. The first was hey, okay, maybe Danny isn't the most annoying guy on the planet. The second was yes he is, but maybe I like annoying. The third, the one that scared you the most and that you mentally scoffed at before it could develop, was maybe I wanted to kiss him. "I'd probably beat you, actually."

"Oh, as IF!"
