Chapter 9

"He's waking up Sir." A voice stated.

Dream started to stir awake.

"What happened?" He asked himself below a whisper.

"Hello, Dream." A man stated.

"What do you want." Dream darted his attention to the direction where the voice had come from.

"I don't want anything. All I ask is why you are here in my territory in the first place." They walked towards the light.

"Sam."

"I see you still recognize me." Sam smiled.

AweSAMdude. Is their full name. He was also Dream's old friend. Before Dream had apparently betrayed him.

It was a nice sunny day in the plains biome. A few trees seen from time to time. Fields of flowers blooming throughout the spring season. A few creepy dark caves. Bug rocks laid in random positions. A river splitting the land into two. A wooden bridge built to connect the two areas. Two kids naive, gullible, and extremely stubborn were running around the plains. Dream and Sam. They were friends before Dream ha diet George and the gang. But this nice and faithful day caused the two ti grow apart.

They were both playing some game of Hide and Seek. They said, "two players will make the game quicker. And we could do as many rounds as we like!".

Sam was chosen as the 'it' or preferably the 'seeker'. Dream would hide in under 30 seconds. Then Sam would look for him.

Dream hid atop an oak tree. It's many leaves blocking the light from seeping in. Creating a calm shade underneath it.

"And 30! Ready or not, here I come!" Sam shouted. Alerting Dream that he was already looking for him.

Dream had the advantage in terms of his hiding spot. Since Sam could not be able to find him atop a tree with loads of leaves covering him. Sam could not be able to climb the tree, for he had suffered a bland injury from doing it once. Dream was still stuck in thought when he heard the crunching of leaves below him.

He gazed at the figure below the tree. It was Sam.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are" Sam taunted.

Making Dream freeze as the voice felt as if it was beside him. But he knew Sam was not beside him, but underneath him. The tree's thick leaves and branches gave Dream the perfect hiding spot.

Silence hit a few seconds later. The air around him felt tense. It felt as if he was being watched. He looked around him. But saw nothing there. He shrugged the feeling off him. He was playing hide and seek. He shouldn't chicken out because he got some weird feeling someone else was there.

A twig snapped. Making Dream jump at the sudden noise. Leading to him falling off his hiding spot.

"Found you." Sam smirked. Dream scowled. Sam laughed at his reaction.

"Your turn to seek buddy." Sam encouraged.

Dream now despised the idea of Hide and Seek, decided to play a little prank at his dearest friend.

"Sure. Go hide. I'm going to start counting." Dream stated. Turning his gaze to the oak log. Covering his eyes with his hands he started counting. A mischievous smirk detailing his face.

Sam hid immediately as Dream started counting until 30. Finding the perfect spot underneath the wooden bridge above the river. It has a calm current. It wasn't strong enough to drag him along with the flow.

"Ready or not here I come!" Dream shouted. Alerting Sam that their game is starting.

Sam knew Dream wouldn't find him here. Because why would Dream even think that he would hide somewhere where he'd get wet. Dream knows how hard it is to dry Sam's clothes. A wealthy family has expensive type of fabric used for their clothes. And expensive is usually harder to try, based on personal experiences. Sam told himself, "the maids would be able to handle this."

A few minutes. Hours. Had passed. Still no sign of anyone finding him. He doesn't understand why Dream hadn't found him yet. It wouldn't take multiple hours for him to discover his hiding spot. Something was up and Sam knew it.

But tired of waiting for Dream. He went back home. Soaking wet. But his misfortune did not stop there. A theif had come across his path and recognized him immediately. They threatened him to tell where they lived. With a gun raised to his head. He complied with the theif. This wasn't any other theif. It was an assassin. Sam had learned it the hard way. Once they arrived at his home. He thought the theif would demand money or anything else of value from them. But all they did was murder his family. His parents died. He was spared for being honest to the said assassin.

To this day. Sam believes that if Dream had not ditched him that day, he would still have his parents. He blamed Dream for every misfortune to ever happen to him. Dream had promised him that he wouldn't leave him. But that promise was broken that day. Dream had betrayed his trust that day.

"Of course I do. You are a very popular topic way back then." Dream replied.

"Now. Answer my question. Why are you here in my territory?" Sam confronts the man.

He was basically powerless as of the moment. Sam had the upper hand.

"I was looking for the revival book." Dream confessed.

Sam was shocked at his answer.

The revival book could bring the dead back to life. Anyone possessing it would be treated as if they were God! People would use this to gain more power than the others.

"Is your search for power and leverage still not over Dream?" Sam asked. Enraged at Dream's possible intentions.

"That is not the reason I am looking for it." Dream replies, genuinely speaking the truth.

"Then what is?" Sam snapped.

His curiosity shouldn't get the best if him. But he was desperate for an answer.

"I want to bring my brother back. He wasn't supposed to be involved in my battle with the UnFound Agency." Dream replied. Removing Sam's hunger for the truth. Removing his curiosity and anger.

Dream wasn't doing this for leverage nor power. It was to save his own brother. It was the moment Sam knew, that Dream isn't a power hungry monster. He still cares for people. He may not have showed it to Sam often. But now Sam knows how much Dream would do for a person he loves with all his heart.

"What happened?" Sam asked. Traces of sadness lacing his voice.

"They killed Tommy. To eliminate the 'problem'. I just got him back two years ago, and I lost him that easily." Dream stated. Tears pricking his eyes. Dream knew he shouldn't cry. It shows weakness. "After I get him back, I will get my revenge. Tommy will get the life he deserves after I execute my plans." Dream had added. A few tears managing to face down his face.

Sam sighed. "I will help you."

Dream perked up at Sam's statement.

"But only because of your brother. I will help you bring him back, but I will not help you get revenge. For that is not my battle. It is yours." Sam added stating the conditions.

"You don't have to... But the least you could do is let me go." Dream replied. He felt as if he was asking too much if he agreed to his terms.

"I insist Dream." Sam provided Dream with a warm smile.

Dream mouthed a 'Thank you.'
