Chapter Seventeen

*Clary's POV*

"Wake up, little sister." I groaned as Jonathon gently shook my shoulder. Blinking opened my eyes, I smiled at the sight of his face.

He had bags under his eyes like he didn't get any sleep last night. "We are here."

I gasped and sat up quickly. Throwing off my blanket, it landed in a crumpled heap on the floor and I jumped off the bed. Jonathon stepped backwards so that I won't plow him over as I ran to my window.

"It's so beautiful." My eyes glanced outside, taking in all the colors and cluster of people that littered the streets.

"I knew you would like it." I felt his hand rest on my shoulder and I turned to face him. Tears pooled in my eyes as I pulled him into a bear hug. I felt him tense and it seemed like he hesitated; before his arms snakes around my small frame.

"Thank you." I repeated over and over into his chest as I allowed a few tears to escape.

"You are very welcome. Your happiness is all that I ever wish for." He squeezed me for a second before pulling away.

My heart was racing at the anticipation of walking the streets. When he told me that he was going to get dressed so we can go sightseeing; I nearly jumped for joy.

Quickly throwing in clothes, I rushed out into the kitchen to wait for my brother. But I couldn't shake this feeling that hung over my mind like a black cloud, waiting to let the rain pour down.

*Alec's POV*

"So what you're saying is that with your Parabatai rune, you can see Clary?" Jace asked Simon, whom was pacing the floor in front of the long library table. It was piled with books that covered every square inch of it.

"But that's impossible." I countered and Magnus turned to me. My palms were starting to sweat and my heart skipped a beat when our eyes met.

"Nothing is ever impossible. It's all special abilities. Like how Jace can activate his runes without his stele, or how Clary can invent new runes. They are gifted far beyond a normal Shadowhunter." Magnus explained

I just nodded my head, not being able to unravel the jumbled mess of words that were floating around in my brain.

It's okay just do you. My mind encouraged me to bottle up the awkwardness and confusions and to just go with the flow.

I sighed and turned my attention to Simon who was explaining what he saw in the scene he witnessed.

After two hours of looking through books and Magnus generating a 3D map of the entire world, we were able to figure out one extremely important detail.

There was a magical disturbance in Siberia last night and Magnus got a fire message from a fellow Warlock in Paris that felt a change in the air early this morning. She said 'it was dark energy'.

Everything seemed to stop and for a few heartbeats we all locked eyes.

"We might have just found Clary." I said, cutting through the silence. Jace and Simon bolted out of the room and Isabelle followed in suit.

"Well no time to waste." Magnus fixed his shirt and ran his hand through his hair as he started to walk out of the library.

"Magnus, wait." I swiftly reached out and gripped his hand. My body seemed to hum as if his magic was flowing through me like electricity.

"Yes, Alec?" He asked, turning around to face me.

"About what happened in the elevator. I'm sorry." I apologized. He was taken back by my sudden apology.

"Alexander, it is alright." His free hand reached up and cupped my face. A small smile spread across my face and I felt myself lean in.

"Apology accepted. Now let's help your Parabatai get his future wife back." He pulled me and a portal appeared in front of him.

Thinking of Jace and the others, we jumped through the portal and the whole way through, I noticed I never let go of his hand.
