CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

Georgina does what Georgina knows best. Glare.

She left the living room in frustration, which is a good thing, Axel and I have the privacy to talk better, which will help me avoid any further altercation with her. Axel's no more steaming, it's not a new thing to either of us to get into fights like this, the cycle goes like; Gina and I insult each other, Axel gets involved, he obviously blames everything on me, I sometimes let go of my ego and apologize, the dispute dies down, and we're back to normal.

"Will you tell me why you are here?"
"I need a new place to move into, preferably my building. Is there any juice here?" I reply, going straight to the point.

"Babe, juice!!" he yells all the way.
"What happened to your old apartment?"
"I should be asking you, did you even do any background check on that place, especially the tenants?"
"No" he hesitates then ask, "Why?"
"That's the thing, Axel, you put me in a building full of Journalists. Unfortunately, I've gotten myself involved with one. She'll be the death of me if I don't leave on time. Where's the juice?" I reach for a chair.

"Hold up Leo, did you just say you've gotten involved with a woman, a Journalist?" an unbelievable smirk on his face.
"Why are you asking so many questions, Axel? Hmm?"
His smirk bursts into loud laughter whereas there's nothing funny in this situation. Gina appears from nowhere and places a glass of mango juice in front of me, great, smart of her knowing how to torture me using my specific allergy.
"Enjoy!" and she's gone at the moment Axel stops stupidly laughing.

"You've gone mad, do you know that?" I have no choice than to question his sanity.
"Not me, you, you are mad......ly in love" his words cease the supply of air in my lungs. "Have you gone crazy?"
"You should ask yourself, have you gone crazy in love?"
I shake my head.

"Love? Leo is in love? Pinch me, I think I'm dreaming" the worst thing that can happen is Gina getting hold of this insane idea.
"Axel, there's nothing between me and the Journalist. Are you hearing yourself?"

"A Journalist? There better be nothing going on between you and whoever she is. Jeez! Leo, you know what's at stake, and I'm hearing you're fooling around with a Journalist. Am I the only one who's concerned about your position?"

"Babe, not now"

"When will we have this discussion? Is it after we continue turning a blind eye to what Kristoff is planning, and he eventually becomes the Capo? tell me, is that the best time?"

"But none of this would have happened if you didn't put him to the job" Axel jabbed at her.

"Now it's my fault?"

"Both of you, shut the fuck up" I commanded, and they did immediately, the camaraderie we have as friends is no more present.

"Gina, none of us is turning a blind eye, and you're not the only one who's concerned here. Believe it or not, all of what I'm doing is for both of you and the other recruits, including those young ones that you've been assigned to train. I'll see myself out".

I left their residence feeling worse than I came.

========

It has been a month since my life in Tarleton began, and it has been the beginning of misery. With all the whole drama of yesterday, I can't imagine what the next month has to offer. I woke up so late in the afternoon, the sun is already at its peak in the sky. To start the day, is a cup of coffee and freshening up to get breakfast at the Pancake and Syrup serving hut. Life has gotten so bad that I'm at an unspeakable place with almost every important person in my life, makes me wish Javi were here. With the turn out of events, if I were to live in my building, I might just get eaten up by this loneliness.

As I pass by tenants in the first floor, I got stopped close to the desk located at the entrance door by the sight of the man I met yesterday, Cale. He's disheveled compared to what I saw yesterday and is he still in his pajamas?
When his eyes met mine, he approached me in an insane speed, roughly grabbing hold of my shirt by the collar.

"You bastard".

His action caused an uproar that distracted everyone from what they were doing, the short man behind the desk who's supposed to be the Security Guard, quickly ran away on his short legs. In Cale's face I can see furry and anger which resulted in me in pushing him away from me.

"What the hell, man!" I yank him off.
"Where's Eleanor?" He demanded,
"What is that? she should be in her apartment. You should have checked instead of accusing me".
He throws his hand over his nose and drops them.
"She didn't come home last night. Now answer me, where did you take her?"
"She what?" I blurt.
"Did you bring her home?"
"She insisted on being dropped off at the Supermarket".

"What? There's no use talking to you" he walks out of the building with the pajamas.

Eleanor didn't come home?
She truly insisted on getting off at the Supermarket that's along the way, I shouldn't be worrying, I don't...but what has happened to Eleanor that made her not to come home.
She must have branched by after shopping, at a friend's or a place, Guy's bar.

I delay my brunch to go all the way to Guy's bar.
"I shouldn't be worried" is all I repeat over and over as I drive myself downtown. Eleanor is a smart woman, she wouldn't have gotten into trouble, I should have collected her number while I still had the chance, I don't even know her last name. There's no better way to look for this woman.

At Guy's bar, the bartender who's familiar with Eleanor said she hasn't been there for a while now. Instead, I asked for important information about her, he did know her last name, Graham and gave me her cell number, but there's nothing more. Back at my car, my phone has been ringing with multiple missed calls from both Gina and Axel.
