39| Pink Dupatta

"Well" Tara began settling herself on the bed near Aadhya. "I know him for like months only"

"Yes that's why he came to Delhi and now returning back to Mumbai just to meet you, only months of knowing" Aadhya asked and Tara bit her lips smiling.

"Just some more than 12 months"

"Tara"

"Okay fine. Nearly two years"

"Is he a good guy. What he does? How did you both meet? Don't worry I'll be supporting you both but only if he's worth enough for you and yes I'm not gonna tell Rehan--" Aadhya ranted making Tara laugh.

"You're on a whole new level of hormone change"

"Are you gonna tell me or not?" Aadhya frowned.

Tara cleared her throat. "Yes, so I met Sameer when I was in twelfth and he was in college. We had a break because of the distance but he finished college and then it worked out well"

"Distance? You studied in Mumbai?" Inquired Aadhya.

"Mom had an accident when I was in eleventh, and everyone thought it would be better if we moved to Mumbai. Shreya and I joined DIAS then and yeah, it happened like that"

"Guess what, I'm not surprised you're in a relationship, every one who graduated from DIAS from our family has one" Aadhya laughed.

"That's true, even Ved has on-- Oops don't tell anybody, it's the hot news, I saw him messaging her on Instagram" Tara meekly laughed.

Tara heard the sound of footsteps. She looked at the door to spot Ved walking to his room.

"Hey brother! How's Kriti doing?" Tara laughed as Ved turned red.

"Who-who-- I'm going" He ran making the ladies laugh.

"Tara, I see you as my sister and that's why I'm telling you, don't hurt yourself, in this relationship. Okay" Aadhya held Tara's hands.

Tara kept her hand on top of Aadhya's, nodding, she said. "I won't"

"I'll go now. I came in the middle of watching movie. You're not coming?" Tara asked tying her hair in a bun, walking to the door.

"No. Babies Mumma needs sleep" Aadhya patted on her bump slowly.

Tara chuckled. "Goodnight babies mumma" She held the door to close but paused. "Do you mind I ask something about your past?"

Aadhya raised her eyebrows.

"Well I can't promise I'm not a ghost"

Tara passed a smile. "Why didn't your parent's--" She moved into the room "--accepted your previous relationship?"

"I'm sorry, I didn't understand" Confusedly she asked.

"Uh. I'm sorry. I knew, it was a bad idea" Tara slowly said and turned to walk around.

"Tara. Stop" Aadhya left the bed and walked slowly near Tara. "I really meant what I said. I did not understand what you said"

Tara cursed herself on why she decided it was best to ask Aadhya about her previous relationship.

"It was nothin--"

"Tara. Talk, I want to know"

She cleared her throat. "Well, I know that you were in a relationship before marriage and you seem like a mature person to me, so I wanted to ask why your parent's didn't agree with your relation and forced you into marriage"

"That's not true. I never had a relationship before marriage!" Aadhya exclaimed.

"Uh. Oh. I'm sorry, it must be a misunderstanding then" Tara tried to smile.

"Oh God. Who--" Aadhya stopped suddenly, keeping her hands on her waist looking down. Saliva fill up her mouth. She took a deep breath but once the sour taste reached her mouth she walked to the washroom, fast.

Tara held Aadhya's hair and rubbed her back. Once finished spewing out everything she ate to the toilet, Aadhya stood by the washbasin. She opened the faucet to wash and before the cold water touched her mouth, she pour out again.

Sanjay knocked the door twice before popping his head through the door. Sunitha signed him to come as she checked the files on her table.

"Are you busy? If yes I can come later" Sanjay rushed his words walking back to the door.

"Dear you have entered the lion's den. Like it or not you're gonna spit everything" Sunitha smiled at him as she walked around the room in hurry. "Are you busy?" He nodded no. "Great. Drop me in the hospital and we're gonna talk in the car"

She opened the door and her pace gets faster as she moved.

"Is there some emergency?" He asked running behind her.

"Yes" She stopped in hall. "I'm going to the hospital, Sanjay will drop me" Sunitha said to her husband, Raj, giving him a tensed smile as she moved.

"What's it that you want to talk to me?" Sunitha asked once the car is pulled out.

"Ahem" He cleared his throat, rubbing his neck. "Well, nothing just. Nothing"

"So I've seen you more than I've seen any of my other children. You say a lie and I can tell it just like water" Sunitha replied looking at him.

"I really didn't wanted to do this. But Rehan is behind my back all the week" Sanjay looked at her with a blushed face.

"What's it?"

"He thinks you're keeping something from him and Aadhya. Like, there's something wrong with Aadhya's pregnancy"

"Why would he think that?"

"You don't talk to him much about her pregnancy. If he asks something you avoid, among plenty of other reasons"

Sunitha chuckled. "So he sent you to investigate"

Sanjay looked at and then nodded. "I told him, anyone could understand when I lie but he was pressuring me so much. He's going to be here in two days and he can't hold it"

"It's his children" Sunitha said. "They haven't even came out but he feels he's a father and he's. No matter how old his children is, he, every parent will worry for their children. Haven't you seen Daadi not leaving her childrens side when they're sick"

Sanjay laughed at the memory. "I remember her making a yucky thing for Dad and scolding him for not eating"

"Parenthood is magic"

The rest of the car ride was silent. As he pulled the car into the hospital, Sunitha asked him to come back when she calls, to pick him. Sanjay decided to stay and went to the cafeteria. He played on his phone and rest on one of the chairs there.

He saw two policemen coming and asking directions from someone on the lobby. He soon heard a loud cry as it spread throughout the silent floor.

He walked behind the policemen and he stopped once they reached their destination. Sunitha came out of the operation theatre in a big blue gown. She talked to the policemen, and then consoled a woman who was crying resting her head on the shoulder of her husband, it seemed.

Sanjay walked back to the ground floor and settled into of the chairs there. He wanted to know what happened but he had to wait. Hours passed and Sunitha came down. Seeing Sanjay she moved to sit near him.

"Hey, ready to go" He asked standing up.

"I thought you went"

"Nah. I was in the cafeteria. You ready to go?"

"No. I'll be here, you go home. I've called Raj, he'll be here now" Sunitha threw her head back covering her face.

Sanjay didn't say anything but decided to stay as he sit beside her. He knew the amount of work and tension she has to go daily, and he wanted not to piss her when she's having a moment to herself.

"The girl was 15. Raped. And pregnant. She was nearly in the ninth month. But couldn't make it, so the baby" Sunitha blinked faster not letting anybody see her vulnerable side. "The more I saw her face, Liya's smiling face was infront of me. She's the same as Liya, she's someone's daughter, someone's sister, someone's friend and she--"

Sanjay wrapped his hands around Sunitha rubbing her arms. She took minutes before she spoke. "Aadhya is not healthy enough to carry one baby and now she has two. I'm worried if she or one of the baby is going to make it. Her blood pressure isn't normal. Nothing is right around her pregnancy. She's not going to have a normal delivery. Hell, I'm a doctor who's practicing more than 20 years but her case, I've left half of it to god"

"Have you told this to Aadhya?"

"No" Sunitha shook her head. "That poor girl's blood pressure increase every time I say, "Wait. Let me check". She's laughing on the outside but her husband not being here, is affecting her. A lot. This is one of the time when I think Rehan should have had a normal job where he can be with his family every day"

"She's gonna make it, right" Sanjay asked. Sunitha looked at him with no words coming out of her mouth. She wanted to nod, atleast, but she wasn't able to.

"Hey, I'm here" Raj announced once he reached near them. Sunitha went with him, leaving Sanjay, unanswered.

"Are you sure you don't want me to call anyone" Tara asked for the nth, and she gets the same answer, no, from Aadhya.

"It's my morning sickness" Aadhya whispered closing her eyes.

"They should name it correctly then, 'cause I know ten pm is not morning" Tara rolled her eyes switching the lights off. She walked around to the door but Aadhya stopped her.

"Tara, I mean it. I never had any relationship before marriage. I don't know from where you got this but I hope---"

"Yes, bhabhi. I know, you don't worry, just sleep. We'll talk in the morning" Tara said beginning to close the door. "And I trust you"

"No. Yes. But I couldn't" Sanjay walked around his room with phone near his ear, as Rehan poured sweet words.

"Look, you're gonna be here tomorrow and why the hell can't you keep it inside your pants! Yes. Now goodbye" Sanjay threw his phone to the bed just when Anvi came to his room.

"That's a normal way to welcome, Mr Malhotra" She said sitting on the while he stood in front of her. "What's going on"

"Nothing. Just few errands to run" He opened his wardrobe and took his clothes out. "What are you doing here"

She smiled hugging him from the back. "I heard the elders already went so I thought to come with you people"

He turned around pulling her closer to him. "Really"

"Yes" She wrapped her hands around his neck leaning to kiss his lips.

"We are waiti---. Oh hell no. I haven't seen anything"

Sanjay looked at the door to see Tara walking back with Ved.

"Either you marry her so that we don't come inside without knocking or move out" Ved yelled.

"Shit. We're late" Sanjay mumbled looking at his watch.

Anvi pecked his lips before moving to the door. "I'll be with them, get ready fast"

"I want to tell you something"

Anvi stopped to look at him. She wished he tell her, what she wants to hear. Her eyes sparkled with happiness.

"Yes"

"No, not now. After the wedding. Tomorrow. We'll go out and I'll tell you"

Anvi nodded with a sad smile and walked ahead. She was worried how many more she's to wait for him to say, yes, to their marriage.

"I heard you'd morning sickness" Anvi said helping Aadhya to get down the steps.

"It was awful" Said Aadhya. "I directly went to sleep after throwing everything I ate"

"Pregnancy is hard, huh"

"Hard? It's more than that. As much as I love my children, I hope they come fast. My back is killing me with my foot"

Anvi laughed. She made Aadhya sit on the bench in the courtyard.

"You're really glowing. This bump is looking so beautiful. Can I touch" Anvi asked slowly touching her bump with forefinger.

"Am I hurting you?"

Aadhya laughed. She grabbed Anvi's hand and rest it on her bump.

"Oh my god. Are you sure, you're not getting hurt. Oh my god, I'll cry" Anvi laughed with tears.

"Why?" Aadhya laughed seeing her antics.

"Let's take some photos" Anvi grabbed her phone and took some photos with Aadhya and the best out of it, she posted on her social media.

Later, everyone had their photos taken before Sanjay came. When he arrived everyone got inside the car and went to the wedding.

The wedding happened luxuriously and lavishly. Everyone enjoyed themselves but Aadhya couldn't stop the tension arising in her body. She murmured to herself, Rehan is coming tomorrow and she's going to be the happiest but her heart wasn't agreeing.

"Can I go home, Mom" Aadhya dragged Sunitha to a corner, away from the loud noise.

"What happened? Is there any uneasiness" Sunitha checked Aadhya for fever and immediately made her sit on one of the chair near her.

"No. My back is hurting. I want to lay down. Please can I go home?" Aadhya requested and Sunitha couldn't say no.

"I'll get the keys. We both will go"

Aadhya interrupted. "No. Mom. Tara told me, she'll come. We both will take a cab"

"No. No. Not a cab at this time. I'll come"

"No mom. You couldn't be here for the engagement because of me, I don't want you to miss out this too" Aadhya argued.

"I'll ask Sanjay, if he can drop you then you can go otherwise I'll be coming" Sunitha said and Aadhya nodded, agreeing.

Aadhya Malhotra

"I'll be there at 6 or 7. Something like that." Rehan said to me over the phone. He's in Dubai Airport and his flight is delayed, also he's got nowhere to go, so he's sitting inside the airport.

I smiled rubbing my belly. "I can't wait to see you."

"I can't wait to hug you." He said. "Wait I can hug you, right?"

"Yes, you can." I laughed. "Even you can kiss me, here" I touched on my face, near to my lips.

"Oh dear. I'm not going to kiss you just there." He whispered making me blush.

"Are you coming to pick me?"

I shook my head. "I'm here to welcome you home." I smiled looking down. "Somebody here, doesn't like car smell and it's making me, yuck"

"Uh-" He cleared his throat. "Won't they like me?"

I frowned. "Why won't they?"

"Well, first I wasn't there with you for many months, won't they have to get adjusted towards me?"

I shook my head smiling. "There's nothing like that. And if we think back, you were with me during my first two months, not completely, but still, you were there. And what you have to be worried is that, what if they don't like your smell?"

He looks amused. "What's wrong with my smell? I smell so good. I don't even have to use perfume because my natural sce--"

I signed him to stop, laughing. "You're, a piece. I must say, so rare in the world."

"Excuse me, and you fell for this."

"I did." I touched my mangalsutra around my neck. I looked at him over the screen.

I feel everything is surreal, he's going to be here but something is not feeling right. Something is missing? I don't know. Something.

"Aadhya I'm going back to the wedding, I forgot my phone there. I'll be back soon" Sanjay said as he stood near the door.

"Okay," I said waving. He left and I looked back at Rehan. "I'm so sleepy." I kept the laptop on the bed and laid beside it.

"Isn't the wedding finished, yet?" He asked.

"No. I wanted to come home cause I was tired and Tara said she'll join me, so Sanjay came to drop us but he decided to stay too and now he is going back for his phone."

"So you're alone? Both of you?"

I nodded. "Don't worry. We're fine. Girls power. We both are sleeping in this room, we have to talk so much."

"Well you gotta finish talking, soon. 'Cause when I'll be back, which is tomorrow, I won't leave you alone. Mrs!"

I laughed. "Mr. I'm a mommy too. Remember?"

"Oh darn! I'm still not out of my honeymoon phase" He laughed making me laugh.

Time, please go faster.

Sanjay parked his car in the garage. He opened the door of the back seat, letting Rhea and Jiya to get down.

Both of them fought with their parents to go home with Sanjay, and they agreed, when the trio promised not to go near Aadhya but straight to bed.

"I've to pick Rehan tomorrow. Early in the morning. So I need a good night sleep and I should not hear a voice from both of you" Sanjay warned and they walked ahead, nodding but both in their mind, building plans on how to destroy his sleep.

"I need an answ---" Sanjay stopped. His mouth didn't make out words. It happened fast.

The screaming. The loud screaming of someone's, close to them. And then something fall infront of them. From the sky. Then a pink dupatta fell, from the sky again, near the three.

Sanjay felt his heart stop looking at her lying on the ground.

Lying on the ground, wrapped in blood.
