The Ruins

Charles Wallace and Calvin were still wandering along in the jungle.

By this time, they were lost and bewildered.

And to make matters worse, Calvin's mind was beginning to play tricks on him.

"Charles Wallace... you think maybe we should stay away from the trees?" said Calvin anxiously.

"Sure. It's not like we're in a jungle" said Charles Wallace sarcastically.

"No. I mean those trees. They look like they're on fire" said Calvin.

Charles Wallace laughed. "Calvin. That's the sunset" he said.

"Oh is that it? We've been gone for that long?" said Calvin.

"I think so. If we don't hop to it, we're never gonna find Meg" said Charles Wallace.

"You can say that again" said Calvin.

"If we don't hop to it, we're never gonna find Meg" Charles Wallace giggled.

The boys kept walking until they came to the ancient ruins.

"Ugh. Who'd wanna live here?" said Calvin as he looked around.

"Oh boy oh boy oh boy!" squealed Charles Wallace.

"What's happened buddy?" said Calvin.

"I found some treasure! And it's a big treasure chest too. I wonder what's inside" said Charles Wallace.

"Well, typical treasure is gold or jewelry and anything precious" said Calvin.

"It must be pretty precious because this chest is really heavy" said Charles Wallace.

"What do you think's in there?" said Calvin.

"Ice cream" was Charles Wallace's immediate answer.

"Ice cream? Well it must be an awful lot of ice cream if ice cream's in there" said Calvin.

"That's true. It's so heavy. Either way, I hope it's ice cream because I love ice cream" said Charles Wallace.

"Open it" said Calvin.

Charles Wallace opened the treasure chest and found...

"Bones?! BONES?!" said Charles Wallace.

"That hardly seems like treasure" said Calvin.

"You know... I'm starting to think that these are ancient ruins of past Australian homes. And these might be what's left of the bones of the people who lived here" said Charles Wallace.

"Who'd put their bones in a treasure chest?" said Calvin.

"Maybe they were just hiding themselves away till they were dead" said Charles Wallace.

"That makes absolutely no sense, but it doesn't matter. What does matter is that maybe Meg's here" said Calvin.

"Right! Meg! She's the treasure we're looking for" said Charles Wallace.

"Exactly. Let's look around these ruins for Meg" said Calvin.

"Way ahead of you, Cal" said Charles Wallace.

Looks like Calvin and Charles Wallace are one step closer to Meg. But are they?

What's coming up? What could it be?
