(ok so the rest of the story is going to be in 3rd person unless stated otherwise)

walking down the crystal staircase, Jim could feel his heart pound as they got closer to the bottom. this would be the first time the blue clade teen has seen trollmarket since Gunmar took it over with the help of Queen Usurna. the last he heard of it was from Toby, from when he was helping Aja and Krel down there, and it didn't sound like i looked good. getting to the end of the stairs, they looked through the doorway that had a visual straight shot to the heartstone.

" Welcome to Heartstone Trollmarket, safe haven to trolls alike." Blinky announced with his usual dramatic flare. Jim couldn't help but smile and roll his eyes a little. he looked down at the busy streets as he heard his best friend staring in breathless awe. Jim watched the crowds as he was able to recognize most of them. some he knew personally, some he didn't, and some he knew were felled in one of the many battles Jim and his team fought in. guilt hit him a little hard and he wasn't able to hide it. with that guilt, something in the boys chest actually ached, like someone had physically poked his heart. it caught him off guard for a moment, as he reached up to massage the pain away. Toby was already following Blinky down to the streets below, so the only one that noticed was ARRRGGH! who was trying to make sure the two teens didn't get lost in the new environment. 

"Jim ok?" ARRRGGH! asked with concern for the markets newcomer. snapping out of his daze, Jim looked at ARRRGGH! realizing he was caught he tried to play it off, giving a fake smile.

"huh, . . oh yeah, I'm good. sorry." starting his walk down the stairs as he finally saw his best friend and once mentor already a fair way ahead of them. ARRRGGH! wasn't good with words, not even when speaking in trollish, but because of that he knew emotions. he could read anyone perfectly within the first hours hes known them as if he has known them his whole life. he knew Jim wasn't completely fine, anyone else would have missed it but ARRRGGH! didn't. his concern grew but he decided not to push it as the child no longer seemed in physical pain anymore. 

walking though the market once they had caught up. ARRRGGH! continued in his thoughts as he made sure no unwanted interactions were caused, but at the same time keeping a close eye on the dark haired teen. to make sure he was still physically ok, which he was. the boys were just taking in the beauty of trollmarket as the newly formed trollhunter was heard yelling back to his friend as he ran towards the heartstone.

"Jimbo, check it out. Maximum coolosity there!" the stout boy was in complete awe of the heartstone. Blinky and ARRRGGH! were so happy to see the humans loving their world as much as they do. ARRRGGH! did notice how Jim flinched at pain the moment he saw the heartstone, but i looked as if it wasn't that bad as the boys face only fell for a moment then right back to a bright smile, he could tell it was a real. 

"Heartstone." ARRRGGH! informed the boys as Toby looked at him in question. Jim knew full well what the stone was and had gained a new appreciation for it. although when he was a troll he never got to feel the power of the original heartstone, he knew the warmth that came from the one in new jersey. that one was a lot smaller than the original one before it was destroyed in the green knights attack. even as a human, with a past of a troll, Jim could still feel the heart beat like energy emitting from the stone, showing how much more powerful this one was.

"Our Heartstone. The life force of Trollkind! The means that keeps us from crumbling to stone, and the source of light and sustenance!" Blinky added in for more clarity. as the hustle and bustle of the market turned to muffled gossip. the streets quickly filled with 'humans?' 'what are they doing here?' 'flesh bags in trollmarket?' grabbing the quartets attention.

" i think we attracted the paparazzi." Toby joked to his best friend as Jim blew out a small chuckle. 

" do not be alarmed friends, they mean us no harm. he is the new trollh-" Blinky was cut short as an angry Drall came pushing though the crowd with his own questions.

"WHAT IS THIS!?" the blue troll demanded causing Toby to jump back in shock and fear. as much as Jim loved his once brother in arms, he couldn't help but get defensive of his best friend and mentor but did nothing as he had no power here. Blinky ducked his head down while backing up as soon as Drall came forward.

" i was just getting to that Drall.-" Blinky began but was cut short once more by the angry troll.

"Human feet have never sullied the ground of trollmarket. Why are these flesh bags here?!" Drall demanded once more. pounding his fist into the ground right by Toby, causing the shorter teen to stumble back into ARRRGGH!'s arms as the krubera made a stand against the agitated brute.

" believe it or not, Drall, he is the new trollhunter." ARRRGGH! said in his native tongue. gaining a loud gasp from the crowd. Toby only looked confused as he was the only one to not understand what his giant new friend had said. Jim was fluent in trollish as he was taught by Blinky even before he was turned into a troll though not fluent yet. spending a year and a half as a troll only solidified the language in his head, but he did his best to play dumb with Toby.

" He can't be the Trollhunter. hes not a TROLL!!!" Drall yelled once more pounding fist into the ground.

" amulet choose." ARRRGGH! said again, switching back to English. with that Toby could peace together what was going on and pulled out the amulet while waving it in the air for everyone to see.

" if you guys need proof, i can just put it on." Toby said with a questioning look, as he turned to Blinky and Jim. the six eyed troll smiled and nodded as his best friend gave him two thumbs up with a similar wide grin. " For the glory of Merlin, Daylight is mine to command." the armor attaching itself to Toby as he was lifted off the ground. Jim looked at his best friend and realized he hadn't seen him in it yet. Tobys armor was noticeably different from Jim's. he took a mental note of it not only changing shape to fit the new wearer but also in style. as he thought about it, no two trollhunters had the same armor. Jim also took note that daylight, held onto the boys back was wider and shorter to fit Toby more as well. 

Blinky quickly excused them as they headed to the forge. the blue clade teen saw how Drall looked at Toby as he walked away in hate and disgust, but when he turned to the taller teen, his face changed. to something Jim could only explain as half acceptance before he huffed and walked away. thinking as they walked, Jim thought about the past. Drall had never truly been rude or disapproving of Toby in the original timeline. he was only ever mad at Jim. maybe it wasn't who was wearing the amulet that was his problem, more the fact it just wasn't him. another pound in his chest pulled him out of his thoughts. it kept doing that but Jim was getting used to it and he was hiding it pretty well he thought. he could just ask his mom about it later but right now it wasn't bad so he wasn't going to worry his team. he was unaware of the keen eyed pacifist behind him, noticing every time he flinched. Blinky was talking about random things with Toby, complimenting his knowledge of minerals as Toby was pointing out different gems and rocks.

walking into the forge, Jim could tell Blinky was getting ready for his dramatic entrance. with a silent laugh and an eye roll, he awaited his adopted fathers speech. " Welcome to the Hero's Forge. where trolls and trollhunters alike come to train." Blinky's voice practically bouncing off the walls just to add to drama. Toby looked over the edge of the deep, curious as to how far it actually went. Jim remembered what he did the first time, but didn't have the courage to even pretend to threaten his friend's life. not after the Titans. 

"c'mon Tobes." Jim urged as he placed a hand on the shorter teens back to further get his attention. Toby followed his lead further into the forge when he noticed the statues.

" whoa, are those-" the young trollhunter tried to ask but was at a loss for words when Blinky stepped up.

" Trollhunters, Your predecessors, Master Tobias. A line of heroism that reaches back to the ages of Merlin! This is the place of the final reposed, Kanjigar the Courageous." pointing to an empty platform. "One day there will be a statue of you here, Master Tobias. One day very far off into the future of course!" saying the last bit after seeing the concern on the child's face. Jim was searching the platforms for a familiar face, when his eyes landed on who he was looking for. gaining a sad smile from the boy. Blinky saw this look and went into teacher mode. "ah, i see you found Deya the 'Deliver'. the very first trollhunter and the very reason we only have one gumm-gumm to deal with." Jim was listening to Blinky but he didn't take his eyes off of the gutter troll. " she banished the Gumm-gumm's into the darklands using killahead bridge to act as a doorway, sealing them away forever. only one managed to escape. this is why Deya is known as the greatest trollhunter of all time." most trolls already knew of the stories, so Blinky was happy to be able to teach it to someone who had yet to hear the tale.

" wait, rewind. one of the bad trolls was able to escape?" Toby asked in a slight panic. ARRRGGH! rumbled a noise of confirmation with a head nod.

" yes, Master Tobias, unfortunately. but that is why we are here. to train you to fight Bular." Blinky stated excitedly as he walked to the small raised platform where the forge's on switch was. Jim saw this out of the corner of his eye and instantly snapped back to reality as he remembered what was about to happen. with the press of a button, the forge activated. Jim was the first to jump for safety next to Blinky, almost before Blinky even pressed the button. Toby wasn't too far behind in ducking for cover. "excellent reflexes, you two." the blue troll praised.

"BLINKOUS GALADRIGAL !!!" came a booming voice over top the noises of the forge. Blinky in a panic turned off the machines to make way for the elder. "Blinkous Galadrigal." Vendel said again.

" That's your name?" Toby asked in surprise. his remark was ignored as Blinky went to address trollmarkets leader.

"Vendel, what brings you to the forge?" Blinky asked in slight panic and fear. fiddling with his fingers and his head low wearing an awkward smile .

" i wish to meet the human that the amulet has supposedly chosen." the elders milky eyes glanced at Jim then over at Toby as he decided the latter was the new trollhunter. bending down to be eye level with the already short human. "I am Vendel, son of Rundel, son of Kilfred." Vendel said as he started to poke around at Toby.

"Uh, Toby. Son of Ralph. I live with my Nana." Toby introduced himself in a similar manner to the pale troll in front of him, a little uncomfortable.

" Produce the Amulet Trollhunter." the elder ordered as he found the teens phone and held it with two fingers. Toby was fast to get it away from the handsy troll before it was broken this time. Jim was sitting on the stairs watching the ordeal, not really saying much as he had nothing to say. he didn't have any questions because he knew most of the answers and he didn't have the energy to play dumb as the pain in his chest slowly got more frequent, not truly worse in pain just more often. he zoned out as he watched the conversation get blurred out. he knew they were still talking and he could tell Vendel wanted the Soothscryer to give a judgement. blinking out of his daze when Toby asked for his assistance to reach the hole. the once trollhunter rushed to help his friend up the same way he had done for him in a past life. all he remembers was a lot of screaming kicking and once again the judgement being inconclusive. 

Vendel went to talk to Blinky and ARRRGGH! in the corner for a moment before he left. while waiting for the adults to finish talking, Toby turned to his buddy to rant and joke about how crazy all of this is, just for him to finally get a good look at his best friend. realizing how tired he looked and knowing he didn't look that tired an hour ago. he watched him for a moment to also see him flinching in pain every couple of seconds. with that confusion turned to concern real fast.

"Jimbo, you ok dude?" once again snapping out of whatever daze he was in at the call of his best friend. looking up from the ground and over at Toby, he saw the concern in his face and heard it in his voice. throwing on the fakest smile Toby has ever seen his best friend wear. which only made him more concerned.

"I'm good, Tobes." the teen rasped. " I'm just a little overwhelmed with all that happened tonight." trying his best to come up with a lie that wouldn't sound too far fetched. but Toby wasn't buying it. as the new trollhunter watched the pale troll leave he went and talked to Blinky. giving him a run down on how tired humans can get and saying that he can train all day tomorrow and Sunday. Blinky looked over at Jim and saw the state he was in and agreed. 

the two trolls escorted the teens back to their homes. much to Jim's protest saying he was fine but eventually giving in. Blinky took Toby home as ARRRGGH! took Jim. ARRRGGH! gave Jim a gentle pat on the head. "Jim not ok, but don't want friends to worry." the teens breath hitched as he heard that statement. Jim knew the krubera was good at reading people but not so good that he could read a complete stranger like a book just hours after meeting him. ARRRGGH! saw the panic in the child's eyes and gave a small smile "wont tell" he said to calm the nerves of the human whelp in front of him. said boy gave him a weak but genuine smile.

"thanks ARRRGGH!" he whispered. with that they said their goodbyes and Jim headed inside to find his mom had already gone to bed. when he thought like mother, like son and promptly passed out face down on top of his covers, still wearing all his clothes. unknown to him, a bright teal almost green glow tried to brighten the room, glowing brighter and brighter only being snuffed out by the boy's body and the blankets he was atop.

(A/N- hey guys so we are starting to get into the thick of it. i wanted to give Jim and ARRRGGH! more moments together as i don't think they got enough in the show. i might not be updating for a while but i will try to get one chapter out weekly. thank you) total word count- 2652 not including A/N
