Chapter 32- Familiar Stories & Dormant Memories

--Arianna POV--

"You know, growing up I would always stargaze with my family. I did it once with Ambrose, but he ended up falling asleep," I grumbled the last bit, thinking back to the memory.

3401 and I were currently lying down on the flowery field, gazing up at the cloudless sky where a few doves could rarely be spotted fluttering passed our vision.

"I don't know why, but I've always loved looking at the stars," I turned my head to look at him, but he was already staring at me. An intense look covered his gold eyes as his hair lightly fluttered around, his lips placed in a thin line.

"For some reason... You remind me of a bright star..." I mumbled, outstretching a hand and placing it on his cheek. He closed his eyes, covering my hand with his until he slowly opened his eyes, locking me in place with his gaze, his lips moving to touch my palm. I felt the goosebumps rise on my body, but didn't pull away from him, for some reason.

"...Orion,"

I heard myself whisper before I even knew it.

And then my vision went blank not a moment later.

The quiet humming of a woman was heard echoing along the expanse of the large area, but I couldn't tell where it was coming from... Me. That was my voice, humming a familiar yet unfamiliar tune, a lullaby.

"Sleep now, my beautiful child," I whispered, cradling a sleeping baby in my arms. He was covered in nothing but a white cloth, two small white wings protruding from his back as he snored lightly, clutching onto a strand of my hair with his small hand.

Rocking him in my arms, I strolled around the flowery field, a small content smile on my face until a deep chuckle was heard, and I turned, smile widening when I saw who it was.

"I knew you would be here," He said, walking up to me, leaning down to kiss the baby in my arms before standing up straight and planting a short yet deep kiss on my lips.

"Where else would I be?" Laughing with me, he gently brushed a tendril of hair away from my face.

"My angel," He lovingly whispered, leaning down to capture my lips once more.

"Tis a beautiful day, fly with me, my love," He had already outstretched his wings, and they stood tall and proud behind him, casting a large shadow over us, his feet floating above the ground as he held onto my hand.

"Dorian, and the other angels are waiting. Let us be on our way," Smiling at him with a knowing look, he chuckled as I outstretched my own wings and with one hard thrust, we were flying up into the air, flying higher and higher until the ground was nothing but a blur.

Holding my baby in my arms, I held his hand with my other hand as we flew through the clear skies, content and happy smiles on our faces.

I blinked as I was brought back to reality, confused by the sudden imagery that had flashed through my mind like a distant memory.

"What was that?" I asked 4302 who was staring up at the sky, a sad smile on his face. A forgotten memory? Perhaps, from one of my other lives? Did humans ever have wings in history? Or was this memory from before then?

"How are souls created?" I asked, trying to connect the dots.

"They're created by the almighty. I'm guessing you already know who that is," He answered without asking any further questions.

"God?" He nodded his head.

"All souls are different... Human souls, angel souls, and devil souls, to name a few,"

"What about sustainers?"

"Sustainers are like robots, they don't have souls unless they were once a devil, human or angel. In my case, I was once an angel, and the same can be said about 4501," I hummed at that before continuing in picking the petals off the flower in my hand.

"So that vision that I just had... Was it real? The man in that vision seems familiar," I mumbled, thinking back to the smiling man that kissed me then turned to look at the person lying on the field beside me, his eyes on the sky.

"...Do you want to hear a story?" He suddenly asked.

"A story?" I repeated as he nodded.

"There is a famous story in the heavens. Do you think it's real or just a myth?"

"I can't say since I don't know the story," I gave him a weird look.

"You'll know soon," Apparently, I'll be knowing a lot of stuff soon, according to him.

"Unlike humans, and other mortals; angels, devils and other creatures of the heavens don't age... but just because they don't age, it doesn't mean they can't be killed,"

"I guessed as much," I mumbled.

"But the soul is something that can't be killed no matter what. It can only fade into nothingness, and it has in many situations for many people, humans more than angels and devils. A devil and angel's soul doesn't have the chance of fading unless the being falls from the heavens, just as I did,"

"So can your soul fade now that it fell from the heavens?"

"No, because I became a sustainer. If I chose to continue living as a human then it would have. Becoming a sustainer was the only choice I could have chosen to not part from my child," This man didn't look it, and I never would have guessed it, but he's a good father.

"Is that the story you wanted to tell me?" I asked, not thinking that it was much of a story, and that it was rather closer to facts, but I didn't want to say anything to offend him.

"Once, there was an angel. A beautiful angel, and every heavenly being would agree that she was one of, if not the most, beautiful angel to have been created, not because of her physical beauty, but kindness that surpassed that of even an angel..." I guess this is where the story actually starts.

"Her laugh was able to silence anyone in their want to hear her said laugh, and her mere presence was more than enough to end disputes between others," Long story short, she was an amazing angel.

"There was another angel, not much older than her. Larger, stronger, and wiser, but despite having more than her, he felt inferior to her. That angel grew up in her shadow, and made her his rival, but while he worked hard to beat her, she continued to live beautifully,"

"So... What happened after that?" I asked when he paused with the story.

"The two of them ended up growing close, and fell in love," I laughed with glee when he said that, feeling my heart swell up in familiarity, but not understanding the feeling at all.

"He fell for her first, and worked for years to make her fall in love with him. He brought her the wildest of flowers, competed with hundreds of other angels for her love, made big promises until one day, she accepted him for his dedication, and pure intentions,"

"Did they get married? Can angels get married?" I asked.

"Marriage is something for mortals. They had something deeper than marriage," He smiled a smile that almost felt reminiscent.

"Deeper than marriage?" He nodded his head.

"A promise. To love each other for all of eternity,"

"And then they lived happily ever after?" I guessed, but had the uneasy feeling that this was all just the beginning of a disaster.

And yes, it was just the beginning of a disaster.

A big one.
