Chapter 17: The Festival of Lights (A New Years Special)

Kiyomi POV

Izumi Uchiha (I met her when she had lunch with Itachi once) dragged me through the numerous racks of kimonos in the shop, babbling excitedly. That girl had an excessive amount of energy, much like Naruto. Apparently Itachi agreed to go to with her to the Festival of Lights! She forced me to go shopping with her after I told her I didn't have a yukata yet. I mean, I didn't even know there was a festival, so of course I didn't have a yukata.

"Look at all these nice yukatas neechan! I bet you will look so beautiful in all of them!" Izumi clapped her hands happily.

"Not as pretty as you Izumi-chan! I bet Itachi will be surprised when he sees you in your outfit!" I cheered.

Izumi blushed and laughed and said, "What about you and Shisui-kun hmm? I've seen how he looks at you." She wiggled her eyebrow mischievously at me.

"No no ya got it wrong Izumi-chan! He hasn't asked me yet! Plus we are just friends." I motioned with my hands and a little pink tinted my cheeks.

I admit that I enjoyed being with Shisui. He was only a side character in the anime, but I truly got to know him more after coming here and I could not help but fall for him. I mentally slapped myself. Who am I kidding. He was THE SHISUI OF THE BODY FLICKER. I wouldn't have a chance with him anyway...

"Eh Kiyomi-chan, has no one asked you to the festival yet?" Kurenai suddenly piped. She happened to be at the same shop as well, carrying a large shopping bag.

"Heh heh not yet Kurenai-sensei." I replied sheepishly. "What about you? I see you have your yukata already." I teased. It's obviously Asuma haha.

She blushed. "Mhm. You'll see Kiyomi-chan! Ja ne!" She winked and left.

Izumi dragged me through more shops until I finally found a yukata that I liked. I wiped sweat from my forehead. Who knew shopping could be so tiring -_-

Shisui POV

"Itachiiiiiiii" I whined. "Please tell me how you got Izumi-chan to go to the festival with you!" I shook my younger friend.

He blinked and said with a blush, "Umm it wasn't me exactly. She came up to me and asked I wanted to go with her and I just said yes."

Eh? Nani? That's all? "But there must be something else Itachi!" I pressed. He just shook his head in confusion and left. I sighed in defeat and walked back home. I want to ask Kiyomi but I'm too nervous.

"Shisui? What's wrong?" mother questioned with a concerned look when I came home. Then she looked at me with a smirk and put a hand to her mouth said, "Oh my! Dear, it looks like someone is suffering from young love." She turned to father with a knowing look. I scratched my head, nodding.

Father motioned for me to come to the sofa he was sitting on, and he threw an arm around me laughing, "Don't worry, I gotcha son. Flowers can never go wrong. It's what I did with your mom!" He gave me a thumbs up and a cheesy grin that could rival Might Gai's expression.

I was so glad he was recovering. Kiyomi rekindled a fire in him, and he found a purpose in life again.

I thanked my parents and ran to the Yamanaka flower shop. I was browsing for flowers when a little blond girl that I recognized as Inoichi-san's daughter tugged my pants saying, "Are you looking for some flowers niisan? I'll help you!"

"I'm looking for some violets little miss." I told her.

"Oh oh! Father just got some new violets!" She ran to the corner of the shop and pulled out some flowers, arranging them in a bouquet skillfully.

"Here you go niisan! It's on the house! Kiyomi-neechan will love it!" she placed the flowers in my hand.

I turned several shades of red. "H-how'd you know?" I stuttered.

"I always see her with you and Sasuke-kun!" She had a dreamy look on her face when she mentioned Sasuke.

Even Sasuke has fangirls? I guess it can't be helped since we all have the Uchiha genes.

Kiyomi POV

As we were about to leave the shop, I saw Shisui passing by so I ran up to him. "Shisui!" I called. "Save me from Izumi-chan! She's been dragging me shopping!"

"Wait Kiyomi-neechan! We still have to find some nice accessories!" Izumi chased after me. I hid behind Shisui with pleading eyes. Izumi is the sweetest girl I have ever met but she turns into a mini devil whenever she goes shopping. I swear, she had the triangle angry anime eyes right now.

Izumi stopped when she saw me and smiled and then left. Shisui and I looked at each other in confusion before he said that he wanted to show me something. So I followed him into a place in a woods where there was a beautiful tulip flower bed next to a crystal clear spring, naturally shaded by trees and moss. I gushed, "Shisui this is so pretty! I love it!" and spun around like a little girl, taking in the fresh air.

"I'm glad you like it. I come here often when I need to clear my head. Now it's our secret place." he smiled. "There is something I want to ask you though." he said nervously.

He took a deep breath and pulled out a bouquet of violets, "W-will you go to the F-festival of Lights with me?" he stuttered.

"M-me?" I gasped, "Really? I would love to Shisui! Did you plan all of this?" I tackled him in a bear hug, causing him to stumble.

"Yeah, mostly me but I got some help too!" he nodded. Flowers really do work, thank you Father Shisui thought.

***************

I put on a flower patterned purple yukata and helped Naruto with his light blue yukata. Aww he looked like a mini Minato. Shisui looked stunning in a dark blue yukata with the Uchiha crest. He picked me up before 7 and we walked throughout the village together, taking turns carrying Naruto on our shoulders.

The bustling village was filled with shops selling snacks and toys everywhere. The air was filled with sounds of merchants and joyous laughter from children running around with kites. The reddish orange bamboo lanterns placed all around the village gave it a homey feeling. I could not help but feel a pang of homesickness. Konoha is my home now, but I still missed my parents... it reminded me of the holidays at home.

"Go neechan you can do it!" Naruto clapped. We were playing a kunai throwing game at a stall and Naruto wanted the fox plushie prize. I ruffled Naruto's hair and took the kunais the merchant gave me, throwing them at the targets. I aimed, and score! Naruto got the plushie he wanted, and Shisui bought Naruto some roasted squid afterwards. Then we played more games and Shisui demonstrated his PERFECT (no joke absolutely perfect) shuriken throwing skills, winning me the cutest panda plushie I've ever seen. We also bumped into young Shikamaru, Choji, and Ino (ahh they were too kawaii!!) with their parents. I let Naruto down from my shoulders and the little ones immediately ran through the streets playing for a while.

When it began to get dark, we made our way to the top of a hill and met up with Itachi and Izumi to watch the fireworks. It was a perfect evening.
