It was a day that all high schoolers were either excited for or slightly dreaded: prom. You already had a date of course.

It was the one and only Chris McKay. How could you say no to him after seeing him smile around you more often? Since there was formal dress code, both you and Chris had to go through the process of buying a tux and a dress.

"Hey babe, look what I bought for prom-" "No no no! Don't spoil it! It's bad luck!" Chris kept joking around once you two were at his house, saying that looking at the bride before a wedding is bad luck. His adorable immaturity and high energy made your cheeks turn red from laughing.

You two continued to playfully argue back and forth in the living room, smiles both etched onto your faces, taking each other in, and admiring the happy atmosphere.

That was three days before prom came around. Right now, everyone migrated to the decorated auditorium by sunset, heels clicking against the floor, music slightly echoing against the walls, the ends of colorful dresses flowing by, couples upon couples on the dance floor dancing the night away, and everyone letting loose, forgetting the stress of school and just having fun.

Chris got a table that was near his friend group but also small just to fit the two of you. You two decided to meet up there, your friends wanting to flex and ride in an expensive, rented limousine to and from prom. It was fun nonetheless, but you couldn't wait to see Chris.

Meanwhile, Chris nervously waited. He didn't know why his heart was beating a bit faster than usual and he was hoping his hands wouldn't get clammy. He just wanted to dance and hold you for the night. He thought about the relationship you two had and he always wondered why you still made him nervous despite being together already.

He realized he was staring at nothing, getting out of his trance when his friend called him over. His friend dropped the news, saying that the limousine with all their partners arrived. Chris felt himself smile and subconsciously cheer, feeling eager to see you.

He already knew that you were going to look stunning, but he wasn't prepared as much as he thought once he saw your figure walk in the door. Your arms were linked with your friends, having a big smile on your face already. You stood out from everyone else in Chris' eyes, wearing a/an y/f/c dress that slightly shimmered in the light along with your jewelry. Chris felt his jaw slightly unhinge and go down, staring at your figure slowly walking closer to him, mouth agape. It felt like one of those slowmo scenes in cheesy romance movies.

He took everything he could see in: he admired the way your dress fitted perfectly against your body, how confident you seemed to feel, how contagious and glamorous your smile wasโ€”he felt his face getting hot and his heart beating harder if it could, as if he was staring at an angel.

You noticed Chris already staring at you, both of you maintaining eye contact and your smiles growing once you finally made your way over. Chris slightly jumped up from his seat, his smile beaming and creating deafening yet small dimples on the sides of his mouth. He brought you close to him, both of you hugging and melting into a warm embrace. You giggled as he slightly squeezed you, his arms wrapping around your waist even tighter.

You felt his right hand gently travel to the core of your back so he can still touch you as you both pulled away to take each other in, still smiling like idiots at one another and having that glimmer in your eyes. Using the hand already on your back, Chris led you to your side of the table and pulled your chair out for you like the gentleman he is. "M'lady." You giggled and sat down. The two of you just relaxed and talked to one another before the infamous slow song started to play over the speakers.

As the time came by, Chris held your hand, leading you to a small space on the dance floor. All the couples began to sway to the music. He gently held your waist with his right hand and had your fingers intertwined in his left. You rested your left hand on his shoulder while staring into each other's eyes, the occasional streaks of light flowing through from projectors, illuminating both of your faces and revealing looks of love with shimmering eyes staring back at one another. Him paying such close attention to you melted your heart.

The dance strained on until the music stopped and the announcement for prom king and queen started up, everyone eagerly clapping and cheering. As you turned to face the stage, you had a small pit in your stomach. You knew everyone had different thoughts tonight, most of your friends wanting to win that spot of prom queen and be on stage with a handsome guy.

On the contrary, you may have felt insecure in front of crowds or didn't want to have that much attention put on you. However, you were pulled out of your worries, feeling a slight squeeze at your waist. "No offense but this is so stupid. I think your my prom queen already." Chris whispered in your ear over the person speaking on the microphone. You looked up and smiled back at him with a slight blush on your cheeks. Now all you wanted was to be his prom queen instead.

"I'll get us crowns later."
