The Snakebite

I wrote this short poem, inspired by DH Lawrence's 'Snake'. It's a brief poem in free verse about the situation where a snake bites a man. Leave a comment about what you think. Would love to read your work too.

Yilana Adalmund is gifted with magical abilities that not even her powerful noble family can comprehend in Askabar, where the paranoid King Diedrich has outlawed any sign of magic, and after showing signs of her power the young girl is taken away from her family at only six years old. She returns at eighteen by the King's order, stronger than ever and angry at the world. Her parents want revenge, and they think overthrowing the King and taking over Askabar, crowning Yilana as the new queen, is the perfect way to get the revenge they seek.Yilana realizes that revenge is not the only thing her parents desire, and because of their greed they awaken someone that the world hoped would never see again."Yilana had nearly lost control; the whole area around her went ablaze, but somehow didn't burn anyone in its precinct. Beth was still frozen, tears streaming down her face.Yilana snapped her fingers and released her hold on Beth. With the fire still surrounding her, she had nowhere to run. She knew him as a cub and thinking about him getting taken away like that, it makes her sad and it doesn't help with the feelings she has for him. She tries to focus on the task ahead but she keeps thinking about their leader and wants to get back before it's too late. But what happens when they meet trouble along the way?
