Prior to the grouping protocol, many of the city's residents lived with their families, with their friends, with their loved ones. That was, until, twenty-three years ago. The government finally decided that people with different abilities were no longer allowed to interact past a certain age, because of infighting and civil wars. The city was divided into eight sectors, and the government enforced the segregation of these with the punishment of having your abilities neutralized, and being placed outside the city walls. A might-as-well-be death sentence.Any children may stay with their families as long as they wish, as long as they have the same abilities as their parents. The divergent children and teenagers are forbidden to use their powers until transferred to the sector they belong in, at the age of 18. These children are usually bullied, outcast, or completely and outright ignored by peers and instructors in school or most other social interactions. The higher powers that be don’t do anything about this, because frankly, they don’t care.At the end of every year, one the first Saturday in December, the 18 year old divergent adolescents are moved from their birthplace to their new homes in the sector in which they belong. They are normally small, barely decorated dorms in the universities in the inner ring of the city. After finishing school at 21, or dropping out, the students are able to leave the inner ring and find more permanent work, and make a living, or a name, for themselves.This is how the system works. And, it’s kept the peace. But, with the rebel groups forming inside the sectors and over the deep web, it can’t won’t last forever.

Hansel Noxmort is a boy trained from birth to hunt almost every type of monster, including rogue slashers. Thiess Lupin is a werewolf and ex bounty hunter who is able to strategically plan a multilayered mission in the blink of an eye, as well as having the ability to back it up. Pyrrho Bacon is Atlanta's stubborn friend with great psychic abilities and powers he seems to be steadfast in his belief that the supernatural doesn't exist. Teresa Lovecraft is a priest in training with strong holy magic but little control as well as a past she refuses to acknowledge within her. Sombran Franker is a revenant brought back from the dead and placed inside a makeshift golem of shadows. This piece was a product of a recent high-school graduate, bored off of his mind and eager to wring his writing muscles, who managed to find a topic worth writing about, riding off the waves of late 2010s euphoria, when a lot of us kinda expected to see an explosion in space exploration in the 20s, not Coronavirus and a full-blown land war in Europe. In a way, this is an artifact from a simpler time in the life of an admittedly cloistered person. In a way, it is a mirror into my personal interpretation of the zeitgeist of the time, which was rather naïve to say the least. That being said, I won't entertain insinuations of me being this and that sympathizers, but I would very much love feedback on the more technical and narrative aspects of the writing. Cheers!

"On the Morality of the Jedi" is a blend of fanfiction and philosophy that aims to apply the work of Friedrich Nietzsche to the Star Wars universe.That the Jedi are portrayed as a religious Order is no new insight. But at its heart is a problematic morality, a set of proscriptive theological beliefs and practices which mandate a lamentable kind of dispathy on behalf of its adherents. Why do the Jedi deny their feelings? Why does their Order seem to dwell in nihilism? Why do the Jedi soon fervently embrace the ascetic ideal? And most importantly, as the heroes of the Star Wars universe, why do we celebrate them for it?Instead of a pedantic treatment of these questions, this work is an experiment in using fanfiction as vehicle for philosophy. This means not only deploying Nietzsche's arguments from his 1887 "On the Genealogy of Morality" in the Star Wars universe, but to also use his literary style of aphorisms to tell an entertaining story! A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, a young woman from Pantora named Faetōsa discovers amidst personal tragedy that she can command the power of the Force. In an effort to be with the person that she loves, Faetōsa decides that the only means to follow her heart to distant Coruscant is to become a member of the mysterious Jedi Order.
