It was as if fate had plans for me. The next day, I went out on some random adventure. It was Saturday after all, so I had plenty of free time. I had no idea where I was going, so I was mainly wandering around, looking for something interesting. I had barely any luck until the end of my trip, when I was just about to head back.

After trekking through some random woods, I came upon a field with a giant tree in the middle. And who else other than the boy from the evening before was standing underneath? I carefully approached, as if he were a wild animal I was trying not to scare off. I guess, in a way, he was.

"Hello," I greeted softly, trying to show I wasn't meaning to startle him.

He didn't react much, so I guessed he heard me earlier, "What do you want?"

"I just stumbled across this place," I said. "I was looking for an adventure."

"Then I doubt finding a tree was your desired result," he commented.

I laughed, "No result is undesired unless I've found absolutely nothing. This tree could become something special."

He looked over, "What do you mean?"

"It could be a special spot," I smiled. "To me, or to someone else. Now, what are you doing here?"

"I come here sometimes to clear my mind. It's normally quiet, aside from a few birds," he responded.

"Then I'll know where to find you," I grinned.

"If you're saying you're going to come looking for me here, don't," he snapped.

"I was joking, calm down," I rolled my eyes playfully. "You wouldn't mind me coming here sometimes though, would you?"

"It's not my property, come here whenever you want," he mumbled.

"Perfect!"

I got closer and began climbing the tree as high as I could. I almost reached the top, but I decided to stop before getting there, resting on one of the lower branches. The boy looked up at me, confused.

"Why did you climb it?" He asked.

"I'm not sure. The real question is... Why haven't you climbed it yet?" I replied.

"I'd rather not waste my energy on such pointless tasks," he sighed, filling with aggravation.

"Well maybe you could find some joy in climbing. It seems like you really need that right now," I suggested, seeing his angered state.

"I doubt it," he spat.

I could tell he wanted me to leave so he could think. I quickly climbed down, finally feeling my feet against the ground. The boy had sat down with his back against the tree, his golden eyes closed.

"Well I'll be leaving now," I declared. "Don't miss me too much!"

"I most definitely won't," he muttered, keeping his eyes shut.

"Oh, but before I go," I began. "I'm Y/n!"

He didn't reply so I just walked out of the field, into the woods in the direction I came from. I eventually reached home and my mom immediately greeted my worriedly.

"Sorry I worried you, hah..." I apologized.

"It's fine, you did say you might come home late, I was just paranoid," she sighed. "I just don't want you to leave and not come back."

"You know I'll always come back, Mom," I said, holding her hand as a sort of comfort. "I can handle myself."

"You're right..." She gave me a slight smile and sat down on the couch. "What are your plans for tomorrow?"

"Hm..." I hummed. "No idea, but I'll figure it out. Maybe I'll go explore again and take some notes this time."

"As long as you make sure you have your phone," Mom stated.

"Of course. And you don't have to refrain from calling me. I'll always answer, I promise," I swore.

"Thank you," she exhaled.

"Anyway, I'm gonna work. Love you," I spoke before heading to my room, shutting the door gently.

I sat at my desk and opened my journal, writing down what happened during the day.

'The past few days have felt cloudy and lonely. Today was a bit better, since I got to talk to someone I've never met before. He didn't give me his name, but I hope he will eventually. Maybe I can actually have a real friend. Anyway, there were a lot of failures when exploring today. I couldn't go out too far but the only discovery I made was of a tree. Something seemed different about it, like it was significant in some way. And that is where I'll continue looking for the boy I met. I'll try my best to befriend him, even though he seemed a bit cold. I won't get my hopes up, though.'

"Sucks that everything else failed, but at least I left markers so I could find the tree again..."

I fell asleep early that night, excited to find new things to think about in my dreams. My dream was dark because of the night sky, but it was comforting.

The stars twinkled against the sky as I looked up from the tree branch I was sitting on. The tree was so tall that I could still see the sky in all its beauty. I averted my gaze to the side, looking at the boy next to me. He seemed mesmerized by the night.

The stars were like glitter reflecting in his amber eyes. No matter what lighting the sky gave us, his eyes were always gorgeous. He may have given off a cold aura, but his eyes were always warm and comforting. Inviting, even. I could've stared into those eyes for days on end and I bet I'd be able to find plenty of other things to appreciate about them.

I slowly opened my eyes, curious about what my previous dream meant. It was still dark, which meant either I slept an entire day or it was early morning. I looked at my clock and it was 3 in the morning. I groaned and rubbed my eyes, not being able to fall back asleep. I was awake and my mind was racing already. I found it to be quite a pain, but at least it was never boring.

I gasped as I considered something. What if my dream was a telling of the future? Maybe I would be able to develop a relationship with the boy. At that point, I was determined to become friends with him.

First things first, I need to get his name.

I had gotten dressed and left a note for Mom just in case she woke up before I got back, which she probably would. I finally reached the tree, praying that the boy was there. Lucky for me, he was.

Unluckily, though, he was asleep... Well, it was around 3:40 in the morning, so I shouldn't have been surprised. His sleepy state made me question things.

Did he ever leave since yesterday? Did he really have that much on his mind? He must have a troubling life, if that's the case...

I walked up as soundless as I could, the grass either parting or being crushed as my feet came through. I sat beside the boy, observing him. His mouth hung open slightly and I noticed a diamond-like shape on his forehead. I hadn't taken that into account before since I was so preoccupied with his eyes.ย

His hair was a mix of black and some sort of teal. He was definitely intriguing, and I liked it. He had a story that I wanted to unravel as delicately as possible. He moved his head slightly, letting out a small groan of pain. From how it looked, his neck wasn't in the most comfortable position while he slept.

He instantly realized I was there and jumped slightly in surprise. I just smiled at him.

"Good morning, sleepyhead."

"What are you doing here? What time is it?" He demanded.

I took out my phone to check, "It's 4 o'clock in the morning. And I woke up in the middle of the night, so I decided to come here."

"Great. I can't believe I fell asleep..." He sighed, rubbing his eyes.

He had some sort of unnecessary anger toward himself, and it confused me. Sleep was a normal human function, why did he seem mad about it?

"Y'know, you start to hallucinate when you don't sleep for days on end," I pointed out. "So I'm glad you got at least a wink of sleep."

"You don't even know me."

"Well I'd like to!" I beamed.

"But... Why?" He asked, his voice softer than before. There was no acid in his tone this time.

"Why not? I wanna be your friend," I offered.

He just stared at me for a moment, making me feel a bit awkward. At some point, he spoke up.

"No one's ever wanted to be my friend."

"First time for everything, right?" I responded. "I don't have any friends either. It gets lonely."

"So... How about we be lonely together?"
