"satoru." she called for him but there was no response. so she sat up, rubbing her groggy eyes as she headed downstairs thinking he was cooking breakfast or unpacking some remaining boxes they had left.

"satoru?" she called for him again, but he was nowhere to be seen within the house. so she called him, but there was no ring. straight to voicemail. naoko thought it was strange. no note. no way to contract him. he just left without a word. on the day of their one-year anniversary. yea, very weird.

just as she was about to head back up the stairs a knock was heard coming from the front door. thinking it was her boyfriend she opened the door without asking who it was. but when she swung the door open, she was surprised to see her brunette best friend standing before her. "shoko?" she asked, "what are you doing here? it's so early in the morning." she allowed the brunette to enter, closing the door behind her.

"yea, i wanted to see if you wanted to have some breakfast. we haven't hung out in a while." shoko suggested as they walked through naoko's new house, shoko following behind her as she looked around at their new, but empty place. "sorry the place is a mess, we're still unpacking." she mentioned as she pulled out a stool for shoko to sit on. "you guys bought a really nice place." shoko complimented admiring their house as naoko smiled, "thanks i love it too."

"we don't really have much groceries yet. and satoru broke all the dishes while we were moving, so looks like we'll have to eat out for breakfast." shoko nodded, "i'll just go throw on something really quick so we can eat." naoko suggested turning her back to head up the stairs.

"no!" she yelled, shutting her mouth with her hands before speaking in a normal volume, "no, it's ok. i don't mind waiting here. you can take a shower, y'know, put on some makeup. do your hair. pick a nice outfit. so we can take pictures, yea... so we can take really nice pictures." shoko made up an excuse on the spot, making naoko a little suspicious at her response.

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€

shoko and naoko were now at the breakfast restaurant, sitting as they waited for their dishes to arrive. "have you seen or heard from satoru today? he wasn't home when i woke up and when i tried to call him it went straight to voicemail." shoko's eyes widened at her question, "no, i haven't." shoko lied as the waiter brought over their dishes, setting them onto the table.

naoko took a bite of her crepe, "hmm today is our anniversary. he wouldn't just leave without telling me. not even a call or text. i'm just worried something might've happened."

"i'm sure he'll be fine! he probably just had some emergency mission or something." shoko shrugged her shoulders, trying to get her mind off of her boyfriend. but naoko couldn't think of anything but him right now. for all she knew he could be missing and here she was having brunch.

they talked for a while, shoko carrying most of the conversation. she tried her best to get the white-haired man off her mind, catching naoko up on her life. though there hasn't been much changes.

"how's the clan head thing going?" shoko asked wanting to move the conversation. "i guess it's going well. my father is letting me handle things by myself now, little by little. he says i'm ready to receive the position whenever i'm ready to get married." naoko explained taking the final bite of her crepe.

"that's great!" shoko said trying to think of something else they could talk about, but then she felt a vibration in her pocket. it was her phone. gojo had texted her telling her it was time. time to send naoko off to him.

shoko stood up abruptly from her seat, grabbing naoko's attention. "i um-gotta go! there was an emergency." shoko explained grabbing cash from her wallet to pay for their food, dropping satoru's note onto the table intentionally before leaving. "wait shoko, you dropped this."

the note was a small pink paper, opened a little to where naoko see the handwriting from inside. it was satoru's. she could immediately tell. growing curious as to what the contents of the note was, she opened it reading it.

she then stood up from her seat, running to the direction of the school in her dress. her long dress which could be hard to run in since it wasn't too wide.

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€

as she reached the entrance of the school, she headed straight for the garden. seeing the leaves starting to fall and the colors starting to change, naoko admired the view. but the garden wasn't what she was looking for. she was looking for the gazebo which was placed within the garden.

and upon reaching it she could see a figure waiting under it. the figure of her rather tall boyfriend. she could tell it was him a mile away. she approached him, standing under the gazebo with him. "what's all of this for? you know you had me worried so much this morning." she lightly hit his chest as she pouted, a little upset at him.

"i'm sorry, but i wanted to surprise you today." her eyes widened as he held out a small box in front of her. "happy anniversary, naoko." he smiled as he watched her open the box. a silver necklace was placed inside, the charm was a shape of a heart. and naoko smiled, admiring how beautiful her gift from him was. "i hope you like it."

"i love it." she smiled taking it in her hand, "can you put it on me?" he nodded his head grabbing the necklace from the box. as naoko grabbed her hair, placing it out of the way, he hovered his hands around her neck, clipping the necklace, letting it drop on her chest.

she took the charm in her hand noticing it opens. "oh right, i put another surprise in there." he mentioned as she opened the charm seeing a picture of the two of them. a picture of when they were younger. when they went to okinawa to take pictures. their first picture together. she smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck, pulling him into her embrace, "this is a beautiful gift satoru, i'm sorry i left your gift back at home." she softly said as satoru nuzzled his head into her neck.

"it's fine." he whispered as the distance was small enough for her to hear him. pulling away from her grip, he held her by her waist still keeping her close to him. "do you remember this place? were you able to figure it out the note? the place where you made your first move on me." he asked as naoko nodded, "yea, i remember your flustered face when i kissed you." naoko giggled as she caressed his face in her small hands. her eyes filled with love and care.

"i remember every little moment we shared, here and everywhere around the school. that's why i brought you here. because i wanted to say this in the place where this all started. the start of the best part of my life. you." naoko listened to his words, her heart warming up, and beating faster by the minute.

"you have given me so much in my life naoko. more than i could imagine. i never expected to love someone as much as i love you. i love you so much, words can't even begin to explain what i feel for you. 'i love you' is just the start of what i feel for you and i know that will never change. i am utterly infatuated with you. and that will never change either." he said grabbing her hands in his as he rubbed his thumb against them with care. he looked into her eyes, meaning every single word he was saying. and naoko could feel that. his sincerity.

"you're my first love, naoko, and my only love. i never loved anyone else and i never will. i told you i would love you even if you didn't want me to. so here i am keeping that promise. when i lost you, i hated myself for a really long time, but i remembered what you said when we said our goodbyes. that i should let go, so that i could move on." he paused taking a breath, "so i let you go, knowing that i lost the best thing in my life. but right when i let you go, you appeared in front of me. as if the universe was telling me that it wasn't time to let go of you just yet."

"that's when i thought that you were really the only one for me and i couldn't let go of you. not again. i already messed this up once and i wasn't going to allow myself to do it again. i couldn't lose the girl of my dreams twice." naoko laughed, tears falling down her face as she continued to listen to his beautiful speech which he prepared for her.

he got down on one knee as he grabbed a small white leather box out his pant pockets and naoko's eyes widened, gasping as she covered her mouth with her hands. "so i'm going to ask you once again, and hopefully never again. naoko, baby, my love. will you make me the luckiest man in the entire world and marry me?" he opened the box revealing a beautiful silver ring with a huge aquamarine gem sitting on top. the color reminding her of his eyes. the frost blue eyes that she could get lost in forever. a big bold ring that he thought she deserved. last time he was playing it safe with the simple ring but now he was confident. confident in this decision.

she looked into his eyes, tears falling down her face. "yes! yes i'll marry you!" she responded and satoru's face lit up as he took the ring out, placing it on her finger. he wiped the tears that were rolling down her face, caressing it before he closed the gap between them, kissing her like there was no tomorrow.

their kiss was filled with love and passion. naoko wrapped her arms around him, bringing them closer, filling the kiss with more passion as they stood under the gazebo. the rain started to pour around them as if it was on queue. and they pulled away from their passionate kiss, smiling at each other. they were engaged once again, but for real this time. "didn't you say you loved the rain?" he asked mentioning the current weather they were under. naoko chuckled at his random remark.

"i love it. and i love you, satoru. thank you for such beautiful words and for giving me a love i'd never known before you." she gave him a small peck on his lips as he wrapped his arms around her as they admired the rain around them. the rain that comforted them as they comforted each other, wrapped in each other's arms.
