It wasn't long after her death before James was left burning in the flames of his grief and remorse. He couldn't help but feel like he'd betrayed her; because he did.

And not only did he betray his little sister, but his parents as well. He promised them that he would protect her. And he didn't.

James wasn't sure if he was mourning her death, his giving up, or maybe standing by as she took her last breath.

Maybe all together.

James mourned the death of the person who risked her life to save his. Even though she knew that James didn't want to see her because his head was filled with lies and assumptions, she still willingly risked her own life to save his new family.

The poor man would spend most of his days on the couch of his new home. He knew that he could no longer stay in the house in front of which his sister was killed. Where his world crumbled for the umpteenth time.

Memories of their childhood, of their years at Hogwarts, seemed to haunt him now. He used to think that they would all gather around the table together, maybe in 20 years, and reminisce about everything they did at Hogwarts. And now just thinking about it makes him want to bang his head against the wall.

His wife, Lily, was there the whole time.

And Lily lost someone that night, and it wasn't just a close friend, no. Lily also lost a part of herself, because she knew that guilt would never give her peace.

Remus just missed his friend from the library. Although he hadn't had a chance to talk to her for over a year before her death, he misses her now more than ever. And the grief itself consumed him until the feeling tired him so much that he spent his days in bed, sleeping and hoping he wouldn't wake up anytime soon.

Sirius was furious. He didn't know what he was mad about, but you could always catch him scribbling away in his new little journal. Or how he breaks everything around him in anger. He missed his sister. He regretted the days when he was angry with her, thinking she was one of them—thinking she was one of the Death Eaters like his brother. A disgusting hatred blinded him and now he repents with the same measures, he does everything the same knowing that this time he has nothing to lose. But that's what he thought last time too.

Do we even need to talk about Regulus?

Or his new name; The Slaughterer.

Regulus went around wreaking havoc on any place where any former Death Eaters were found. He didn't think, he worked mechanically. He didn't think about whether the death eater was once his friend or family.

His phoenix feather wand soon felt like a part of him, his only friend.

The boy became estranged from everyone else who also suffered because of the girl's death. He was convinced that no one suffered as he did. No, he knows that no one suffers like him. Because if they did, they wouldn't have left her alone when she needed them the most.

Everyone left her right after his 'death'. Regulus knew that. Regulus felt disgusted by that.

Maybe if he hadn't done that, if he hadn't kept it from her, maybe she would be alive now and they would be happy.

Up until now Regulus hadn't been enraged at all, he was almost numb. Yet the one thing that set off all the whirlwind of emotions in him was Dumbledore. That is, what he found out about Dumbledore.

Supposedly, Dumbledore destroyed every time turner that ever existed so that no one would steal one and go back in time and prevent Voldemort's death.

The boy didn't wait for the old man to finish his story before slitting his throat and leaving him to bleed out in that damned office.

He felt like everything was going against him. Even Barty, Evan and Pandora abandoned him when they realized the boy had lost his mind.

Was it actually love and loss that drove him insane, or was it because of the massive murders he had committed in the past year?

He watched everything from the shadows. He watched as Pandora had a baby girl, and he watched as Barty and Evan moved into their new house near Pandora. He watched as Lily and James Potter raised their son and were expecting a girl. He watched as a baby girl was born and they named her 'Marlene', after the girl who lost her life in the war and Regulus came home afterwards and threw up in agony.

Another girl lost her life in the war.

But he assumed the name was no longer mentioned among them. Even on his tongue the name felt bitter like the poison that coursed through his veins and bit his heart.

Sometimes he would wonder if the suffering was permanent or if it faded with time. However, neither is true. Suffering eventually dulls and becomes something that hangs over your head; like a gray cloud whenever you try to look at the sun. Suffering is like a noose that tightens around your neck whenever you try to breathe, something that prevents you from living on yet doesn't let your heart beat stop.

The sadness in his eyes became something permanent, as if he was born with it. The boy is born with tragedy that has him in a death grip and refuses to let go.

In time, Regulus got rid of every person with a cursed mark on their left arm, everyone except Barty and Evan. The boy couldn't bring himself to kill his old friends, he knew his girl would be sad.

And when he got to the point where he didn't know where his head was, when he didn't have a goal, then he felt like the loneliest man ever.

He thought about suicide, of course, he had since he was 12, but somehow his pride kept him away from it.

Years passed, and every autumn was more and more lonely, but he got used to it. Somehow he accepted all that.

Every morning the sunshine would come through his window and he felt a little less lonely, because the boy knew it was like she was still there. When the sun shines on him, when the sun's rays warm him, he feels like he is in her arms again. The kisses of the sun on his face were as warm and tender as her lips.

In the evening his gaze would wander to the countless stars in the night sky, he knew she was somewhere up there smiling at him, maybe even waving without him seeing it.  Maybe she's even crying without him being able to wipe her tears, maybe she's dancing and he can't look at her and admire her.

It was the year 1985 when Regulus bought a house by the sea just like his girl had envisioned. Stone and painted in light blue, inside decorated in a Mediterranean style and full of colors and little things that would remind you of home. Although Regulus couldn't make the house feel like home when his home was a person and not a place, but he did the best he could.

Sometimes he would get a letter from Sirius, just to check on his little brother. Over time, the letters became more and more frequent, and Regulus even wrote to Pandora, but very rarely.

Sirius talked about how much Harry and Marly had grown and what was going on in the wizarding world. Pandora wrote about Evan and Barty, and her little girl Luna.

Regulus realized that Luna and Marlene had become best friends, which brought a smile to his tired lips.

In 1991, Regulus sent a letter to Harry, congratulating him on getting into Gryffindor and wishing him luck.

Harry couldn't send the letter back as a thank you, because his owl didn't know the address. No one really knew his address except for her owl that he used to communicate with Pandora and Sirius. Regulus now considered Doodoosniff his owl (he even considered changing his name but realized his girl would sulk for the rest of time).

Letters from Regulus became less and less frequent as the months passed until no one heard from him for 4 months. It was November 1995 when everyone almost accepted the fact that the boy had moved on with his life. Barty even convinced Evan, Pandora and Lily that Regulus probably got married and maybe decided to start over and forget about his past and the people there.

Sirius wanted to believe that, so desperately wanted to believe that his little brother had finally found peace after so many years of constant misery and pain. But he knew Regulus better than anyone alive, he knew that Regulus had never even considered moving on and finding new love.

He knew something had happened to Regulus.

And he was afraid that what happened to Regulus was Regulus.
