(Y/n) had been told by her mother that she was to be changing schools.

The reason was as simple as this: "You're too lonely. You need to make friends."

What (Y/n)'s mother didn't understand was that (Y/n) had no desire to make friends with the people from her old school... as (Y/n)'s luck would have it, she'd been landed in a school full of the walking embodiments of certain stereotypes.

They had the mean popular girl tropes there, the jocks, the stereotyped nerds, pretty much the whole enchilada there. Why should she go out of her way to make friends with people like that with no real depth? Not even a sliver of it.

She feared this new school probably wouldn't be too different.

Either way, she wouldn't dare go against her mothers wishes, not when her mother seemed so excited by the prospect of her "baby girl" (Y/n had reminded her on countless occasions that she's no longer a toddler) going to a new school, trying new things and making new friends for once.

(Y/n)'s mom herself was kind of lonely these days, she had acted similar to her daughter while in her youth. She hadn't made many friends but this was because she'd been far too awkward to attempt to do so.

Plus, (Y/n)'s father was often at work to make sure they could continue living with all the luxuries they'd wanted until this day. (Y/n)'s mother didn't want her to lead the same lonely life, even though (Y/n) continued insisting that she would NEVER get married and that she would NEVER have children... mainly out of fear.

(Y/n) knew all of this. She had an older brother but he was staying in school dorms.

Reluctantly although not wanting to see her mother sad, she'd agreed to simply go along with what her mother wanted.

And so marks the day that she would have to go to her new school. Kisai... something. She didn't care, like, at all.

The girl slung her bag over her shoulder and sighed, heading downstairs to stand at the front door to her house. She looked around, wondering if anyone would see her off this morning or not, the way they usually did.

"I'm off." She called out uncertainly... perhaps her mother had finally gotten a job? Good for her, if so.

(Y/n) heard the clanking and banging of pots and pans as someone in the kitchen hurried to finish whatever they were doing. From the kitchen rushed her mother, looking absolutely delighted and carrying something in her hands.

"I'm so happy that you're going!" Her mother exclaimed, hurrying behind her daughter and unzipping her backpack. She slipped what she'd been holding into the bag before zipping it shut once more. "Now, I just placed your lunch in there, be a good girl and make friends out there okay? Aw, you have no idea just how happy you've made this old woman!"

Her mother hurried to place two affectionate kisses on each of her daughters cheeks.

Uncomfortable with the somewhat harsh affection, (Y/n) cringed away. This was only because her mother was somewhat careless and harsh when she showed her affection, she would hug her children far too hard and her kisses would feel like literal slaps sometimes.

Perhaps she had too much energy. If it were different, she would gladly welcome her mothers affection anytime.

"You're only, what, thirty-seven? You're not that old yet." (Y/n) reassured her, hugging her mother gently.

"I'm thirty-eight, love, I'm soon to be in my forties!" Her mother exclaimed sadly, gladly returning the hug that her daughter initiated.

"Yeah, but that'll take another two years." The girl reminded her, pulling away from the older woman and stepping towards the door again. She placed a hand on the doorknob.

"Time flies by." She sighed, before sending her daughter many more goodbyes as she left the house. Oh, by the way, they'd moved houses just so that their daughter would live closer to the new school they'd picked out for her.

(Y/n) couldn't help but feel grateful for just how much they did for her.

She then made her way to her school.

Here she was, at Kisai High School, in all its school glory.

(Y/n) sighed, looking around at all of the students. A lot of them were together in bundles, engaging in mindless chitter chatter. So far, nothing was too new from the school that (Y/n) had come from.

"Sooo... walk in, or stay outside like all the others?" She mused. (Y/n) shoved her hands comfortably into her pockets, taking a look around.

She saw a red-haired girl was eyeing her from one of the groups. Feeling uncomfortable by her gaze on her, (Y/n) made up her mind. Just then everyone seemed to quiet down, breaking out in whispers and murmurs.

Oh gosh, either it was for her or someone else. She hoped it was the latter.

Trying to remain as inconspicuous as possible, she lowered her head. She wondered what they would think of her... her hair was slightly disheveled right now (a result of forgetting you had school today), there were dark circles under her eyes, she seemed like she hadn't slept in weeks.

Yeah, she seemed normal enough.

Now she had a new goal; To have a peaceful school year with maybe maximum of six friends in total, so that her mother couldn't say anything in regards to her being supposedly lonely. That seemed plausible, didn't it?

She began walking, straining her ears to hear what it was that the people around her were saying. There were gasps and a few squeals, mostly feminine voices but she could hear a few more masculine voices mixed in there.

These definitely weren't for her, there's no way they knew she was a new student already.

There's no way everybody in this school really knows each other.

So what gives?

Stopping momentarily, she turned around to see what all the fuss was about. A few many steps behind her was a boy who was drop-dead gorgeous. His entire demeanor screamed "kuudere" the moment she lay eyes on him.

Their eyes met for a brief second before she turned.

So, he was the schools pretty boy?

Well, at least there was someone who would draw everyones attention there and far away from (Y/n). This was something she could work with... she'd make a friend or two, the most hopefully being around six.

It was possible that this would be a pretty good school year.

(Y/n) sighed, she had found her homeroom class with the help of a polite girl that she hadn't bothered to learn the name of. She had the feeling that the girl who had helped her was naturally shy, judging by the way she carried herself around people in general.

"Good grief, these people are loud." (Y/n) muttered under her breath, sitting down at the seat where the teachers had written her name in advance... how considerate.

She wasn't lying, the students in her classroom were rather loud. So far, though, she didn't see anyone who could be classified as a stereotype. This was a nice change from her last school, these people seemed to be unique.

However, the people had gotten even louder when the stunningly androgynous boy from earlier had entered the classroom. To (Y/n)'s dismay, he took the seat next to her. Almost instantly, (Y/n) could feel many glares on her.

Looks like this year might not be quite as peaceful as she'd hoped for it to be... this school pretty boy appeared to be a bit of a problem, mainly due to the seating arrangements of this class.

She'd realized with a jolt of shock that the red-haired girl who had been staring at her earlier was in her classroom. Even now, it seems that (Y/n) had unintentionally caught the attention of the girl once more.

(Y/n) was uncomfortably aware of her gaze boring into her and sank further into her chair. Closing her eyes, she wondered what was taking the teacher so long to enter the classroom... at least if any student was late, nobody would know.

When she opened her eyes, she was startled and nearly fell off her chair when she saw that the red-haired girl was now directly in front of her desk, her arms outstretched in front of her.

A few people glanced at her.

"Okay, you've been staring at me..." (Y/n) remarked, scooting her chair up closer to her desk. "What do you want?"

"To tell you you're pretty." The girl giggled, crossing her arms on the desk. "Wanna be friends?"

YES! This was her chance! Now her mom can't possibly tell her that she's "too lonely" anymore!

"Yes." (Y/n) said almost immediately... a bit too quickly.

"Eh?! I mean, are you sure?!" She asked, seemingly taken aback. "Your face tells a different story, you don't look too excited."

It's true, she didn't seem excited. (Y/n)'s face was neutral, in fact, it seemed rather serious at the moment. Pondering it over for a moment, (Y/n) placed a hand on her chin in thought, furrowing her eyebrows.

"Oh!" She exclaimed after a moment, this didn't make too much of a difference since there was a lot of noise everywhere else too. "You want a smile!"

(Y/n) made herself smile, although it looked forced and somewhat awkward. The girl who'd come up to her just laughed lightheartedly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

"You're funny!" She complimented, standing up and placing her hands on top of (Y/n)'s desk.

"Oh, thanks, I think." (Y/n) replied uncertainly.

"I'm Rin Kobayashi, nice to meet you." She introduced herself, holding out a hand and waiting patiently for (Y/n) to take it. (Y/n) only looked up at her from where she sat, not taking her hand.

"(Y/n) (L/n)." The girl introduced plainly.

To be honest, Rin had seemed a bit like she might be a bit of a delinquent-ish girl, from the way she did her makeup, her facial expressions, the way she carried herself and her unique hairstyle in a way, but... she's actually quite nice.

"Oh, the teacher is coming in!" Rin replied suddenly, noticing how all the students had begun to quiet down out of the blue. "Alright, let's talk later."

Rin hurried back to her desk, taking a seat quickly next to another girl.

(Y/n) sighed, her eyes roving towards the door. Right on cue, the teacher had opened the door and entered into the classroom.

"Alright, punks, we have a new student... yes, I sound cliche, but I really don't get paid enough for this job." The teacher began, walking up to stand in front of the chalkboard. "Apart from getting a low pay, you punks like to act up and make my job harder. I'm tired."

"Uh... sir? Weren't you saying something about a new student?" Someone piped up nervously.

"Yes, yes, come up here you rookie..."

(Y/n) liked this teacher, although he seemed to be very boring and tired nonetheless. Just the type of teacher she liked! It didn't seem like he would give her a hard time at all... at least, not counting the fact that she had to sit next to the school pretty boy.

She could still feel a few of his fangirls and fanboys giving her the occasional dark glare, as if they were jealous, deadly partners and she was trying to take away their man.

Man, she had just wanted a peaceful school year but haters gonna hate, I guess.

Walking up to the classroom, she quickly wrote down her name on the chalkboard, making sure not to mess up. Then she turned around to face the class.

"(Y/n) (L/n)." She said simply.

"Aren't you going to tell us about yourself or your goals?" The teacher grumbled, shuffling a few papers in his hands. "All the other students seem to be real fans of those types of long boring greetings..."

"I see no point." (Y/n) replied. The teacher stopped sorting the papers for a moment, taking a moment to really look at the new student before offering a tired smile.

"You said (Y/n) (L/n)?" He asked.

"Yes, sir." (Y/n) answered.

"Go take your seat, try not to be like the rest of these problem children." He instructed tiredly, returning to sorting his papers. (Y/n) nodded, returning to her seat and ignoring Rin who offered her a wave.

Just like that, class started.

━━━━༻❁༺━━━━

(Y/n) was drained already by the time that lunch had arrived, the entire time in each class she could feel people glaring at her back. It didn't help that for some reason, most seating arrangements seemed to be similar if there were enough of the same students in those classes.

The worst problem was that in each class she sat next to the school pretty boy. She'd found out between class periods from Rin that his name was Shousuke Komi and apparently he wasn't the talkative kind.

Staggering out of the classroom the moment it ended, she followed her fellow classmates to lunch, hoping that she would find Rin there. She hadn't been in her last class.

"Oh how I wish Keigo were here..." (Y/n) groaned. Her older brother was who she spoke through most times, he was more social than she was.

"(Y/n)!" A voice exclaimed and she jumped at the sound of it, turning to look at Rin. "Come on, come on! I'm going to show you my friends!"

"Oh, uh, sure."

(Y/n) let Rin drag her by the hand to her table. There sat a somewhat unique group of people.

"Okay, introductions go!" Rin exclaimed, pointing a finger firstly at a girl who had dazzlingly pink hair and rectangular gold glasses.

The pinkette blinked in surprise, she was sucking on her lollipop at the moment. Taking it out of her mouth with a wet pop she fumbled over her words for a moment, caught off guard. It was clear nobody had told her they'd be meeting anyone new today.

"I-I, uhm--- I didn't have time to plan anything!" She stuttered angrily, crossing her arms and sticking her lollipop back into her mouth.

"Hm, fine.Β  You!" Rin pointed over to a girl with sky-blue hair, round black glasses and large green eyes.

"Hiya! I'm Chiyo Sasaki! They them, please, most people seem to forget to use the correct pronouns." They introduced cheerfully, clapping their bandaged hands together. "I bet you wanna know what the bandages are for, right? Right?"

"I guess." (Y/n) replied uncertainly.

"I was in a car crash recently and my arms sustained the worst of the damage, miraculous, isn't it?" They chirped out and (Y/n) cringed away. This person had so much energy...

"I'm Emi Makino." The pinkette finally introduced, taking her lollipop out of her mouth to speak. "I'm just gonna say I really like the color pink, that's all."

Yeah, because (Y/n) really couldn't tell...

The girl with the dark hair and stunning yellow eyes turned to look up at (Y/n), before standing up and offering a polite bow.

"I am Kumi Kuragiri, my brother is Koji Kuragiri, if you've met him." She introduced, her voice was naturally quiet but confidence was etched into every syllable. Until she spoke her next sentence, where her voice began to falter. "I'm very sorry if he's caused you any misfortune already, he's not the brightest. And I really don't... deal well with strangers, so... please... don't talk to me... much..."

"Ah, Kumi is just shy!" Rin told (Y/n) loudly, slapping her back in a friendly manner. "She'll warm up to ya, you'll see!"

"I'm Luna Astor!" (Y/n) turned her head to look at a girl who had what looked like pure white hair and a somewhat pale complexion, she was the one who had helped her find her homeroom classroom in the morning. "Y-You're very pretty!"

"Ah, thank you." (Y/n) replied warmly, Luna seemed kind enough.

Luna's entire face flushed red and she hid it in her hands. (Y/n) didn't understand why so she turned away from her and instead looked at Rin.

"Is that all?" She asked boredly, crossing her arms.

"Yeah, yeah, so impatient!" Rin sighed, sitting down in one of the seats. (Y/n) nodded, taking a seat next to Rin. She looked down at the lunch her mother had given her, wanting to try it and see what it had.

Opening her lunch box, (Y/n) saw a portions of her favorite desserts. A dreamy smile came onto her face as she took a utensil and brought her dessert to her mouth, chewing on it and relishing in the flavor on her tongue.

The other girls noticed how happy she seemed and stared at her in awe for a moment. Noticing this, (Y/n) quickly brought her face back to the neutral one she usually had and ate the rest of her goods in silence.

All of the other girls began talking, rhapsodizing about random things that (Y/n) had no idea what they meant about any of it.

This first day was good, she already made five friends... one more would be the maximum, unless she changed her mind. Then Komi came into the lunchroom and almost everyone started fawning over him, plenty of people gushing loudly over his good looks.

Nah, today sucks.
