65. Skating

So uh, it's been a while. Over a month to be exact.

1. My mom found my Wattpad writing and wants me to publish it somewhere 😭

Also, I have to apply for college soon and I'd rather the admissions not find out about this. I'll continue writing as long as I can but just know, that if I say I'm deleting something, you guys will have around a week to archive it in whatever way you want.

2. School has been kicking my ass lately and I've kinda, maybe, sorta fallen in love with Zade Meadows 😍

So much so that I decided to worse a morally gray Dream fanfic and completely forgot about this one

OH WELL

Dream POV

"Y/N slow down!" I sidestep around a group of tourists crowded around the shopping windows while nearly smacking into a guy dressed up as Santa Claus.

"Would you like to make a donationβ€”"

"No thanks!" I dive under fuzzy red sleeves and chase after the back of Y/N's head which is quickly swallowed up in the sea of people. "Y/N come back!"

Finally, I spot an opening and stumble for it, gladly breathing in the fresh air.

"You really have to learn to weave through crowds better," Y/N says, walking closer to me with her hands on her hips. She tips her head up to meet my gaze and I can't help but grin at her.

"It's because you're shorter than me," I say. To prove my point, I place my hand on her head, toying with the white Pom Pom adorning her black beanie.

"What happened to you being faster than me?" she asks, a slight smirk tugging at her lips. She takes a step back from me in the direction of the sparkling Christmas tree behind us.

"Yes but not in New York City, a place I don't know well."

Y/N smiles but her eyes sparkle with mischief. I notice her feet slowly shuffling backward.

"Well, you know where we're going right?"

I nod. The ice skating rink. Right in front of the Rockefeller Christmas Tree.

"Then let's see who's faster!"

Y/N dashes off, her form already weaving in and out of the strangling pedestrians. I bolt after her, most of the people moving out of my way.

I guess being 6 feet tall helps with that.

The frigid air stabs my skin like needles but I ignore the feeling as I reach the crosswalk. Y/N is only a few steps ahead of me but when she turns around, her eyes lock with mine and widen quickly.

The crosswalk light displays the red stop hand. A bit up the street, a yellow taxi is barreling down at high speed. She takes one look in both directions and bolts across the street.

As if in slow motion, I watch the yellow cab make it to the crosswalk in front of her. It stops momentarily and the driver rolls down his window. I can't faintly hear the curses he spews as Y/N takes a step back.

Before I can't blink, she jumps over the car's hood and touches down safely on the sidewalk. The driver yells at her, giving her the finger.

She just glares and flips his off right back.

"Hey, you can't do that!" I yell as she smiles.

"Yes I can!" she yells spiritedly, her form already shrinking in the distance.

Luckily, the cab getting stopped in the middle of the crosswalk gave him enough time to miss the light. The remaining pedestrians quickly cross in front of the cab.

As I walk past the windshield, the driver gives me a dirty look. I smile reflectively which only deepens his scowl.

"Don't smile," Y/N ordered as we boarded the subway. "You're not in a Dr. Seuss book. The sun isn't shining, the people aren't smiling, and all the birds are dying."

I smile at the memory from this morning, casually strolling past shop windows with mannequins draped in shimmery fabric.

Rockefeller Center's tree shines ahead of me. And right below it is the skating rink where Y/N and I will be spending Christmas.

As the cross light turns red, I stick my hand in my pocket for what feels like the tenth time tonight.

A velvety box slips through my fingers as I curl my palm around it.

"You know, this would be more romantic if it was actually snowing." I grasp onto the side of the rink as Y/N skates past me. She stops a few feet in front of me and grins.

"Here's some snow for you," her hands closes upon the powered snow sitting on the railing, and throws it in my direction.

I close my eyes as the cold flakes but my fake. A few of them slip into my jacket and quickly turn to water against my skin.

"Don't worry, the snow will come in like February," she says. A couple skate past us, their hands intertwined while they glide effortlessly across the ice.

"We could be like them you know," I nod in their direction. Y/N just scoffs and skates over to me.

"We'll try that once you let go of the railing."

"But I'll fall," I protest as she takes my hand, dragging me forward.

"And I'll laugh."

Her cold fingers lock around mine as I use my other hand to push myself off the wall. Unfortunately, I overshot it and instead of landing upright, I end up falling forward.

Y/N backs up, letting go of my hand as I topple face-first onto the ice.

When I look up, she has her hand pressed against her face but her eyes are dancing with laughter.

"Shut up," I grumble, swiping at her leg to knock her down with me but she just skates away, flipping me off as she does.

"My ass hurts," I complain. Y/N just giggles, snuggling further into my chest.

"Sucks to suck."

The bitter winds whips her hair into my face and I push it behind her ears. A shiver travels up her body and I wrap my arms around her tightly.

Taking my opportunity, I lean down and press my lips against the outside of her ear.

"What sucks?"

She lets out a groan and her fist lands on my chest.

Ow.

I laugh as she rubs her hand, shooting me a glare.

"Why do you feel like a rock wall?" Her hands drift lightly across my chest. My padded coat crinkles under her touch as she applies a bit more pressure.

"I don't know baby, you've seen my shirtless, you tell me."

Her mouth falls open earning a grin from me.

I shift her onto my lap, the small box sliding farther into my pocket.

Christmas had gone well. Y/N got me a custom-made lime green sweater with the words pissbaby on the front written in yellow letters.

Of course, I got her a gift basket full of chocolates, a matching, 3-foot cat plush, and a new dress in a dark midnight blue.

But I haven't chosen a time to give her this. I stick my hand in my pocket out of reflex and trace the grooves of the small box.

"What are you doing?" Y/N mumbles. Her head rests on my collarbone but has her gaze pointed downward at my pocket.

"My hand is cold," I answer quickly. Y/N just hums in agreement and grabs my hand, pressing it between her own. Her lips brush against my fingertips, warning them with her breath.

I take my opportunity to slide my hand back into my pocket and grab her chin with the other.

"Y/N there's something I've been wanting to ask you," I whisper, my lips inches from hers. "I've been thinking about it for a long time, and I've never gotten the right moment to."

She tilts her head to the side with interest and widens are eyes a bit as I lean in closer. A stray tendril of hair wipes across her cheek as I brush it bending her ear.

"I love you, more than I've ever loved anyone in the world," I grip the box tighter and slowly pull it out, still looking into her eyes.

Y/N smiles, resting our foreheads together.

"I love you too."

In the distance, the loud counting of the crowd from Times Square rings through the empty park.

"5... 4... 3... 2... 1...!"

"Happy New Year!" Y/N finishes. Her lips melt into mine and I drop the box back into my pocket, grabbing the back of her head gently.

"Happy New Year my love," I smile.

Before I know it, her body is already sliding off mine, her warmth leaving with it.

"Come on! Let's get our first meal of the new year, ice cream!"

She grabs my hand and begins tugging me in the direction of the park entrance.

"Hurry up! Come on, come on!"

Her eyes sparkle with excitement and I feel my previous excitement fading. I glance back at the park bench and then at her.

Damnit.

"Yeah," I force a smile and give her hand a light squeeze. "But you know I'm getting vanilla."
