better off

I sat there in shock. Daniel looked at me with confusion in his eyes. Only the teacher, me, and Daniel were in the class at the time, thankfully.
"Babe, do you know him?" Daniel asked.
I couldn't even talk. The teacher noticed him as well but didn't even care.
Tears started to gloss my eyes. Over 10 years, he randomly just shows up.
"We need to talk." My dad says.
He surprisingly still looks the same. The same deep voice, the same tall figure, the same bald head.
I exhaled and got up.
"Babe who is this?" Daniel got up at the same time as me.
"My dad." My voice cracked.
"Why won't you go talk to him? He's your father." Daniel asked.
"You don't understand." I shake my head "he left when I was a kid"
"Y/N," the teacher interrupts "if this is some kind of family drama, step outside."
I shot her a dirty look then grabbed on to Daniel's hand. He interlocks our fingers immediately then walks out with me.
"Y/N, I know you're upset" my father says as he stands in front of me and Daniel.
"Yeah no shit." Daniel mutters.
"I wanna make up for all the years I've missed out on." He adds
"Make up?" I scoff
"Yes, I know I just got back but give me another chance to make it up to you, your mom. I missed out on everything important, I know." His voice sounds desperate.
"You missed out on more than everything. My 13th birthday, my 16th, my first boyfriend." I replied, referring to Daniel.
I can see Daniel smirk from to corner of my eye. He then wraps his arm around my waist.
"Look," I start again, breaking the short silence "I've learned how to do everything without you, or with mom. I don't need your damn charity now." I let a few tears slip down my face, out of anger. Who does he think he is? Showing up after more than 10 years into my life as if he never left? When did he even show up?

That's when it hit me.

He was probably out talking with my mom. I didn't see her that morning. Nor did I realize he was coming over out of the blue.
The bell rang. A good excuse to get out of this situation.
"We have class. Now bye." I walk back into the classroom and Daniel followed after me.
It felt like weight was lifted off my shoulders. No matter how sad I was, how much I needed him when I was younger, he left me like I was nothing. He can't come back from that.
When we sat down in our seats again, I noticed my dad had left the school finally giving up. Daniel then rubbed my leg and mouthed "everything's okay."
I smiled back to him then exhaled. Tears came streaming down my face but I let them then wiped them off. Daniel noticed and he brought me to his chest and rubbed my back. We stayed like this for a few seconds until kids starting filling the classroom and the teacher started teaching.
