part twenty six

jj and riley stayed on the boat doing some less than innocent things until the sun started to rise. things just seemed a little too perfect, and perhaps slightly too romantic in jj's eyes as the sky turned pink and orange, so he decided to take riley home then.

riley took a nap once she got home after a sleepless night, deciding it was the only way she would be able to get through the rest of the day. she was absolutely dreading having to work the closing shift at the wreck that night.

once she got to the restaurant she kept herself busy, attempting to keep her mind off of a certain blonde boy. however when she got home later that night after closing, the girl couldn't help but wonder how things were going to change.

she knew topper would kill jj if he found out about the two, considering how protective he was over the girl. and she also couldn't even imagine the things rafe would do to him.

her thoughts kept her from being able to fall asleep but when she finally did she was awoken after what felt like only a few hours of rest. groaning, riley flipped over in the bed to grab her phone that was loudly ringing on her bedside table.

"hello?" she groggily said.

"riley," kiara said on the other line.

"kiara? why are you calling me?"

"so our car kind of broke down and i really need you to come pick us up," kiara explained.

"us?" riley asked, even though she knew the answer.

"my friends," her sister responded grimly.

"why do you think i would help y'all?" riley grumbled.

"riley please," kie begged, "we're stranded here."

"where?" riley rolled her eyes as she got up from her bed.

"so you know that pawn shop off of 64..."

"you're at a pawn shop?" riley gritted. "do you know the kind of people that go to pawn shops?"

"yes and if you don't leave now we might be killed by those people so can you please come?" kiara snapped.

riley finally agreed before hanging up the phone and getting in her car. the drive was no more than 20 minutes away but she still despised having to do a favor for kiara who treated her like shit.

when riley pulled up to the shop she had expected to see kiara, john b, pope and jj. what the girl had not expected to see was her best friend, sarah, resting her head on john b's shoulder as they sat on the curb next to one another.

she knew that they were dating now but she never expected to see sarah hanging out with kiara considering the feud between them.

"sarah?" riley stuck her head out of the window, once putting the car in park.

all five of the teens who were sitting on the curb snapped their heads up at the voice. riley's eyes however stayed focused on her friend, who looked extremely anxious and was chewing on her lip as she stared back to her.

sarah made her way to the passenger seat and the other's piled into the back of riley's car.

"so who's going to explain this to me?" riley looked at all of then, her brows furrowed.

"before we explain we need you to take us somewhere," john b said.

"take you somewhere?" riley repeated. "i'm not your fucking chauffeur."

"riley this is important," kiara whined.

"oh i'm sure it is," riley muttered, rolling her eyes.

"riley," her twin warned.

"kiara," riley snapped back.

"okay listen, can y'all fight later?" jj said, cutting off the argument that was bound to happen.

"riley," sarah said the girl's name quietly with pleading eyes and she touched her arm softly.

"where?" riley grumbled. john b handed her a slip of paper with an address on it. she rolled her eyes for what felt like the millionth time that day before putting the car in drive.

"so go ahead," riley said after she had been driving for a few minutes, "explain."

"you see..." john b trailed off, "we can't really do that."

"i picked you up from a pawn shop and am now driving you into the middle of no where and i don't get to know what for?" riley scoffed. "seriously?"

she glanced over to sarah who kept her mouth clamped shut; still, a sympathetic look showed on her features.

"it's a pogue thing," pope mumbled.

"oh a pogue thing? and she gets to know?" riley gestured to the blonde in the passenger seat.

"come on-" kiara began before a siren blared from behind them. riley turned her head and widened her eyes as she glanced at the lights of the cop car behind them.

"what the fuck?" riley panicked. "i wasn't speeding."

"what did we do?" sarah questioned.

"cops? out here?" pope said.

"did you bring the gun?!" john b abruptly blurted.

"gun?!" riley practically yelped.

"no. okay?" jj brushed off the concerns. "everybody told me to leave it back at my place."

"thank god," kiara huffed. "please, everything else in your bag."

jj and pope wrestled with the gold wrapped in cloth, placing it in the blonde's backpack before quickly stuffing it under the seat.

suddenly, everyones movements halted as they heard a loud click emanating from outside the car. the supposed cop had a gun now pointed to riley's head, who froze in the front seat, staring down the barrel of the gun.

"all y'all's hands up in the air now!" the man yelled, his voice slightly muffled by the black mask that covered half of his face. everyone shakily brought their hands up. the only sound in the vehicle being a choked sob coming from riley's mouth.

"you-" the man shook the gun in riley's face, "out of the car, let's go!" the girl stepped slowly out of the car, her entire body shaking.

"let them out! what you waiting on?! let them out! all y'all get out!" riley opened the car door, her eyes connecting with jj's almost immediately. his adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed harshly.

"go on! get out of the car! hurry up!" the man yelled into the van, pointing the gun widely at each of the teens. "lay down in the ditch!" he yelled as everyone climbed out of the van. "in the ditch now!" he swung the gun back to riley who, paralyzed in fear, stood still and sucked in a breath.

"don't touch her!" jj yelled, claiming the attention of the man almost instantly.

"shut the hell up!" he screamed back louder.

"alright," jj stumbled back, "just chill out!"

riley could barely even breath. her chest tightening as the gun pointed directly at the blonde's chest. jj stepped back agin as the guy proceeded to scream and demand for them to lay in the ditch.

"i'll blow your damn heads off!" he said as everyone slowly got down on their hands and knees.

a small whimper escaped riley's lips as her cheek pressed into the rocky ground. jj turned his face to look at her; his jaw clenched and his cheeks flushed.

riley squeezed her eyes shut tightly before reopening them to see the man climb into her car and begin rustling around with everything inside of it.

"what is he doing?" riley shakily mumbled but no one answered her.

"wait- no, no, no, no," sarah began to harshly whisper. riley turned her attention over to the girl who was grabbing at john b's wrist, attempting to force him back down.

"john b," pope called, "don't be a hero man."

riley watched as the brunette ran over to the fake cop car but her attention was ripped away from him when the man began to yell again.

"alright," he began, "y'all stay just like that unless you want your brains blown out over the road! don't move your god damn heads, okay!?"

the group watched as the guy got back into the car but soon stumbled out with john b.

"guys, i got the gun!" the boy yelled and everyone rushed over to where he stood. everything happened so fast that riley's head began to spin and before she knew it the man was on the ground and jj had ripped off his mask and began to yell.

"listen," the guy choked out, "i could've hurt any single one of y'all-" jj slammed the gun into the side of his face, a large gash forming on his temple that began to drop blood.

"chill out man!" pope shouted. "come on! let's get outta here." the blonde boy pulled out a wallet form the guy's pocket and grabbed his license.

"we've got one last stop," jj muttered, turning to face riley who was still paralyzed in fear.

"i- i don't think- i can't-" riley stuttered, not able to form a coherent sentence.

"i'll drive," jj said softly, extending his hand so the girl could place her key's into it. she shakily did so, and the six teens all climbed into the van again.
