Niki's words made your heart skip a beat.

'He just said he loved me'

Niki felt you suddenly tense in his hold, his mind thought the worst was going to happen. Preparing for your words of rejection he felt his heart race, anxiety ran through his body.

"I'm sorry it was so sudden but if I don't say it now, I may lose the chance entirely." You look at him, words suddenly disappearing from you before you had the chance to say something. Noticing your attempt to reply to him Niki softly places a finger on your lips.

"I'm not done. I know you don't like that cheesy sappy lovey dovey speeches but let me say this, please."

You nod your head, Niki continues.

"Ever since we first met i felt so loved and cared for. No matter what happened you always stayed, you stayed by my side through it all. Words can't even begin how much I love you and how grateful I am for you. You mean so much to me. Fuck, I love you so much. I feel like I should say more but I don't know what to say." Niki started rambling on, endless words on how he loves you, his hands playing with the hem of your shirt.

Your smile grew with every word he said, even though he was slowly going in circles with his confession.

Gently, you placed your hands on his cheeks and softly closed the distance between you both. Niki responds almost instantly. The kiss was gentle but passionate, all the words you both wanted to say to one another were all said through it. He pulls you closer to him, feeling him smile on your lips causing you to smile as well.

It was so beautiful. The beautiful moment where two people who were destined for one another finally become one. The feeling felt almost otherworldly, euphoria filled your nerves as each passing moment went by.

Pulling away from each other you both catch your breath, the silence that stood between you both was shattered by laughter. The both of you laughing out of disbelief. After calming down you ask Niki the big question that was looming over the both of you.

"What are we Niki?" "Hmm?" You take a moment to gather your thoughts.

"Are best friends meant to do this?"

Niki looks at you and smiles softly.

"I don't know, but that isn't important right now." He says as he holds you close. "We're you and I aren't we? Unless you're comfortable being more than what we are right now then I'm content staying like this."

You look at him perplexed. "How can you be so fine with that even though you love me?"

"Having you close to me is enough for me. I don't want anything else but you. You being happy is enough for me."

You look at him shocked. He's felt this way for so long and yet had never acted on it? All those nights you cried to him about some stupid person that broke your heart, he was there waiting to give you all the love he had to give you.

Your heart filled with want.

"What if the only way I could be happy now was with you? I don't want anyone else. Just you Niki."

Niki's heart raced with excitement. He couldn't believe this was really happening. You wanted him.. you wanted to be with him and no one else?!

"Are you saying you want to be mine? You're not joking right?" You shake your head smiling. "I'm being serious Niki. I want to be with you." The smile on both of your faces was stupid at this point. You both stupidly in love.

"Hey I'm meant to ask you out! Not you! This wasn't how it's meant to go!" Niki whined as blush crept onto his face, making you laugh at the sight.

"Okay okay. You go then. Do it." You say giggling softly, body restless out of excitement. Niki takes a deep breath, preparing for the question he's always dreamed of asking you.

"Can I be your boyfriend, Y/N?"

Your smile widens as you nod furiously. "Really?! I can?!" Niki asked one last time as you nodded your head once more. Niki smiles widely, bringing you into a bear hug.

"Finally. You have no idea how badly I wanted to say those words." Niki said relieved, snuggling into you as he said sweet nothings to you.

The pair of you have never felt more joy then at that moment. Nothing could compare.

"Can I kiss you now?" "Niki we literally kissed multiple times already stupid." He rolled his eyes at you. "I knowww! I mean as in our first kiss as a couple. I also just really want to kiss you again." You laugh at his honesty. "You don't always have to ask yknow. I'm comfortable with you." He nods his head. "I know. Just wanna make sure you're okay with me doing anything." Chuckling you pull him close, placing your lips on his once more.

After so long, the both of you finally realised that the love you were searching for, the true happiness you always dreamed of, was with one another all along.
