chapter twenty-one , night falls

☞

As we enter Knight Hall Mal and Uma began arguing about where we were going first. I rolled my eyes as Jay's hand slipped out of mines before he turned towards Harry who was trying to alert the bickering girls about something.

That's when I saw the first knight move, it was quick, but not quick enough where I didn't catch it in my peripheral. I shook Jay's arm and he turned to look at me, his features worried looking as he picked up a sword.

"Go with Celia." Jay speaks softly but firmly.

I shook my head, "Magic doesn't work on me, remember?" I looked at him and he shook his head.

"Yeah, but this isn't a magic fight, it's a sword fight, you aren't invulnerable now go!" He tries to push me away but instead of going with Celia I grab the last sword.

Jay's mouth opened as if to reprimand me but he was cut off by a knights sword coming down in front of him. I felt relieved when he blocked it, turning around to face my own competitor, this is where watching all those fencing practices come in handy (anddd... maybe being the girlfriend of the ex-captain too).

After Knight Falls

I panted as I watched the knights fall, there was no way we would've beaten that many knights without Mal's powers or the other VK's strength.

This new feeling was coursing through me though. Something like I'd never felt, I felt overzealous, exhilarated like I was unlocking new potential, new power.

Celia turned to me as all the others were checking on each other and pairing back up into their cliques, she gestured to her hair causing me to see a blue strand of hair on fire on my own head.

"Oh my god!" I shouted low enough so that only we could hear.

I was beginning to gain my fathers properties, and since nobody knew Hades was my father I was now going to have a harder time hiding it than Mal was.

Mal's hair was always naturally purple, of course everyone would assume the moment she got the Hades ember, her powers would amplify, thus her hair changing with it. Though for a normal AK (with a villain father that nobody knew about) it would look quite weird if my hair was blue and it caught on fire.

"Thanks." I winked at Celia playfully as she threw a thumbs up and a smile.

A tap on my shoulder quickly caused me to spin around, Jay standing behind me looking highly upset and worried. He now checked me for scars and any damages but I pushed his hands away annoyedly, he was beginning to work my nerves with all his worrying.

I opened my mouth to give him a piece of my mind but I was cut off by everyone making a plan that the girls separate go to Audrey's to check if there might be any clues there, while the boys go and find Ben. As everyone shuffled out of the room I turned back to look at the wreckage caused by the knights.

Audrey was mean but she was never this bad, and I hoped that when we finally found her, we'd be able to talk her down from whatever crazy plan she was scheming in her brain.

"You don't listen."

I was ripped from my thoughts by Jay who was standing in the doorway waiting for me.

I scoffed, "Oh, I'm sorry, are you my dad now?" I folded my arms.

"No but I'm worried, you've been acting way more daring since we came from the isle." Jay rolled his eyes, his foot tapping the floor impatiently.

I bit my lip, "Maybe I'm tired of sitting on the sidelines, chasing you guys around." I shrugged.

"And that's not a bad thing, but you have to think before youβ€”"

"Listen I don't need you to worry about me, go get Ben and I'll go find clues about Audrey." I shoulder past him as I walk out into the hall.

"Tessa, I'm your boyfriend, I'm supposed to worry!" He called after me but I just ignored him.

I soon found the girls, sitting in Audrey's room going through her journal and discussing what she might be up to. Mal loomed over Audrey's vanity as she tried to fathom what was happening.

I felt something sisterly in my heart, I walked over to Mal hugging her from behind as she jumped a little before calming into my grasp.

"What's this for?" She asked as I pulled away.

"Nothing, you just looked like you needed a hug." I smiled.

Mal's features went from sad and disoriented, to content and hopeful.

"I just can't help but feel like this is all my fault, if I had just never spelled Benβ€”"

I shook my head, "It wouldn't have changed much, the gods and fate decided that you and Ben are meant to be, I mean you're marrying the guy."

"Yeah, just like they decided you and Jay are also meant to be, I guess you thought I wouldn't notice the gigantic ring on your finger." She spoke and I giggled.

"Shhh, it's a secret." I place a finger over my mouth.

Suddenly, Uma pipes up from the bed, "Girl please, Mal and Evie have been discussing that thing since they spotted it on the isle."

Laughter bubbled up around the room as everyone joked about me and Jay getting married, I told them that it was just a promise ring and not anything more but they swore up and down that me and Jay would have a beautiful summer wedding.

"I'm happy you turned out to be my sister." I spoke as Mal tightly hugged me.

"I'm happy too."
