Nami still in his arms, Luffy walked over to the infant reaching out to him.. and stamped on her stomach. Most of the crew audibly gasped (or in Ussop's case, shrieked). Nami held her peace with watery eyes, believing with all her heart the love of her life had a just reason for his actions. Yet she couldn't help a sigh of relief when the 'infant' morphed back into the lizard-masked man, now unconscious. Did you really think I couldn't detect that concealed blade, or that I couldn't tell my princess from a shapeshifter? He thought, disgusted that the enforcer of 'justice' would have the gall to even consider trying to imitate her. "That was for Bon." Luffy said coldly, grinding his foot into the agent's stomach for emphasis. Then Nami gasped, panicking. "Where's Ehime?!?"

Luffy turned to a pile of rubble on his left, stretched out his right hand under Nami's legs and pushed the top of the pile aside. Sanji stood up from the rubble, battered, bruised and bleeding, having shielded a barely conscious Chopper from the worst of the rock fall. And in Chopper's arms lay the second member of his nakama who Luffy yearned for the most, wriggling and gurgling excitedly. Luffy's right hand grabbed Ehime and pulled her into her mother's waiting arms, while Zoro and Franky rushed to pull their friends (and frenemy) out of the rubble. Luffy stood there a moment longer, wrapping his arms around the silently weeping mother and contentedly humming baby, tightly embracing the two most precious treasures of his life. Then he stretched out his right leg and axe-kicked 'Lizard-Face', shattering his mask and leaving the face underneath no more recognisable than before. "And that was for touching her." he growled angrily at the fallen agent.

All of a sudden, in the midst of the deafening quiet of the still battleground, running could be heard from the other side of the battle-worn doors of the main building. Luffy's back to the doors, he looked back over his shoulder. Soon a fresh platoon of marines burst through the doors (literally knocking them off their hinges) and drew their guns at him. "Freeze Mugiwara!!" the lead marine shouted, maybe a captain, but Luffy was done caring.

Using his Conqueror's Haki, he knocked out most of the platoon, until only ten remained standing. Looking into the eyes of the lead marine, Luffy declared clearly "Deal with your dead and wounded; we're done here." before turning around and slowly walking back to the Sunny. The lead marine growled with frustration, then ordered his fellows to hold their fire and to recover their fallen comrades.

A little way towards the Sunny, Luffy stopped, Nami and Ehime still in his arms, to solemnly call to his nakama. "Minna, let's go home", then resumed his pace, wherein the rest followed him. He had recovered those who were his entire world. But he had almost lost them too. Because he was too slow. To weak. To powerless. To naive. And for that the price for getting them back had been high. This wasn't a victory. Nami was right a year ago. He needed to be smarter, to be better prepared. To protect ALL his family, his future, his true treasure. He would never let there be a next time. He thought once more of the man who under different circumstances, he might have cherished as the closest he had to a real father.. and of Ace.

Never again. He swore on oath.

Meanwhile,

In a relocated Baltigo, the main headquarters of the infamous Revolutionary Army, its head, Monkey D. Dragon, had just received an update via Transponder Snail. Apparently, the New Marineford had just been ransacked by the Mugiwara, following the revelation of Mugiwara Luffy's daughter, Monkey D. Ehime. And according to the report from his mole within that marine platoon, there had been numerous casualties among the marines and CP-0 agents, among them Rob Lucci, and Dragon's 'father' Vice Admiral Garp. Around the same time, in a secret chamber at the peak of Mariejois, the entity known only as 'Im' had received the same update from their unnamed source. And for reasons known only to these two mysterious figures, they smiled.
