You! You're the One!

The first words your soulmate says to you are tattooed on you AU

This AU is overused, but I saw this Tumblr post and the idea was too good to pass up. I can totally see these personalities as Lauren and Camila so, here you go.

The one where Lauren's first words to her soulmate totally spoiled Camila's favorite book for her.

------

Lauren loved the idea of having a soulmate when she was younger. The thought that you could find the one person who compliments you best, and be so certain that they were the one for you, was always a comfort to her. When she was eight and was finally old enough to almost understand what a soulmate was, she was ecstatic to about her tattoo. Lauren swore that every time she read the words that have been on her wrist since birth, she'd swoon.

You! You're the one!

She thought her tattoo couldn't be more perfect. All the scenarios she came up with fit her idea of the perfect, cliché meeting with the love of her life. She was the one. She could hear them saying it with so much passion and love. She could not wait to be the one for someone. Lauren became what one would call a hopeless romantic. She loved the idea of love. By the time she was thirteen, her favorite pastime became reading cliché teen romance novels. In all the romance novels she read, Lauren loved that these people got to spend their lives with the love of their life and live happily ever after. Laurens parents became concerned at a certain point with her obsession of love and romance novels.

"It's just not healthy." Clara whispered to Mike.

They were in the kitchen while some relatives were over for dinner. Lauren had spent all of the dinner with her nose in one of her books, paying no mind to anyone else, smiling to herself as she read. Clara and Mike were upset that Lauren was isolating herself by reading constantly.

"She's just excited about her soulmate. And there are worse things she could be doing than reading about love." Lauren's grandmother defended.

"I'm just concerned she's getting her hopes up. Those books are clichés, and while having soulmates is a beautiful thing, it doesn't mean there aren't ups and downs. Relationships still take work." Clara argues.

"What if she creates a false perception of a great love story and she gets disappointed? I just don't want to see her heart get broken." Mike adds.

Lauren had heard her parents and her grandmother say her name, so she snuck over to the kitchen to eavesdrop. Lauren knew her parents were concerned, but she wasn't dumb, she knew her reality wouldn't be exactly like the books.

"Lauren is a smart girl. She knows the difference between reality and fiction. She's just excited for her soulmate and living vicariously through her book characters for the time being. She'll be okay, I promise."

Lauren smiled at her grandma's words. She had always understood and defended Lauren. Her grandma was basically one of her best friends. Lauren entered the kitchen after that, wanting to put her parent's minds at ease. She confirmed that her grandmother was right, and she was aware of the hardships that came with all relationships. Lauren agreed to put the book away while the family was visiting, and she would binge read her book later.

By the time she was fifteen, Lauren had expanded beyond romance novels. Her grandmother had bought her some new books to try and broaden her horizons. Sometimes her grandma would read the same books so they could hold their own mini book club and discuss them. Lauren loved reading in general and found many new genres she enjoyed. She never did read sad romance novels, though. She always found a way to know a love story ended happily, even if it meant spoiling the book for herself. She never liked the idea of a love story ending tragically.

Until she decided that love was not for her and happy endings definitely did not exist. The day she decided love stories and happy endings were, for lack of a better word, bullshit was the day her grandmother passed away. In all the scenarios she imagined about meeting her soulmate and introducing them to her family, her grandmother was always a part of it. The idea that the most important person in her life would never get to meet the other most important person in her life hurt. Lauren did not take her grandmothers passing well. If her parents were worried about her obsession with reading and cutting the world out before, they were even more worried now.

Lauren retreated in to herself. She also started reading all of the tragic love stories with the un-happy endings. She figured that if someone as great as her grandmother had to be taken from her so early, then so could other great people, people like the love of your life. The countless scenarios she had in her mind of meeting her soulmate turned dark, and suddenly she didn't want to be the one anymore.

Laurens friends became worried about her too. Ally and Normani learned pretty quickly that talking about soulmates around Lauren was off limits. They tried hard to get Lauren out of her shell. They invited her to parties, and even to simple hang outs like pizza and a movie. Eventually, Lauren came around and started going out again, but she wasn't the same. She was seventeen now and the hopeless romantic in her had died, and the bubbly side of her was replaced with a more reserved and pessimistic personality. Lauren was still witty and sarcastic, but she didn't always have that spark in her eye when she would catch a glimpse of someone's soulmate tattoo, or hear stories about people meeting their other half. Lauren became a brooding, leather jacket wearing, bad-ass. And while that version of her was mysterious and attractive, Ally and Normani knew that the same hopeless romantic was still in there somewhere. It would just take meeting her soulmate for it to come out.

"So, the new Harry Potter movie comes out this weekend. You want to go see it?" Ally said, setting her tray down at the lunch table.

"You know how I feel about Harry Potter. I am so down. I can't wait to watch it. I haven't read the Half Blood Prince yet, because I'm still finishing all of my Jane Austen collection, but I can't wait to compare the movie to the book and see how different they are. It's almost disappointing how much they change from the original story to fit the-"

"Sorry to eavesdrop, but your rambling sounds just like my friend Walz" A tall blonde girl said, as she came to a stop next to their table.

"Your friends name is Walz?" Lauren asks, perfectly sculpted eyebrows raised.

The tall girl laughs, "No, her name is Camila, but she likes to latch on and hug people like a Koala would. Ko-walla. Walz. You get the idea."

"Cute. She sounds very cuddly." Lauren smiles.

"She definitely is. I'm Dinah by the way." She said and sticks her hand out.

Lauren shakes her hand, "I'm Lauren, and this is Ally."

"Careful, Laur, you almost sounded a little romantic there." Ally chuckles.

"Not into romance?" Dinah asks, as Normani finally arrives at the lunch table.

As Normani sits down, eyes widen in realization. she glances at Dinah, then her forearm, then at Lauren to gage her reaction. She knows how Lauren feels about romance and soulmates, but she can't just ignore her own soulmate.

"She's not, but I am." Normani winks at Dinah.

"Holy shit!" Dinah yells, as realization hits her that she's just met her soulmate.

"No way..." Ally whispers, a small smile forming on her face.

Dinah and Normani start talking, but Lauren zones out. She feels like she wants to throw up, but she smiles at Normani to try and put her at ease. She saw Normani cast a glance her way before responding, and she knows that it's because she's always so adamant about her distaste for love. That doesn't mean she wants one of her best friends to miss an opportunity like this, though.

"Well," Dinah starts, "like I was saying, Lauren here sounds like Walz when she talks about books-turned-movies and I was going to suggest you two getting together some time. But now that I've met you," she turns towards Normani, "maybe we could go see the movie this weekend as a group."

"I missed the beginning of this conversation, but I'm down for a movie." Normani smiles.

"We were talking about going to see Harry Potter," Lauren supplies, "And I'm cool with going as a group."

Ally agrees too, and they all get Dinah's phone number so they can text her about the plans. Dinah leaves to go back to her own lunch table and conversation flows between Ally and Normani. However, Lauren is stuck in her head about soulmates and love. She's happy for Normani, she really is. She thinks that love is good for other people, it's just not for her. Her poor soulmate, she hopes she can get over this pessimistic attitude about it so that she can give her soulmate what they deserve.

------

Camila is worried about her soulmate tattoo.

I can't believe Dumbledore died.

Who was this Dumbledore guy? How did he die? Why did he die? Is everything going to be okay?

Camila spent years worrying about who Dumbledore was, why he had such a weird name, and if things were going to be okay for his family or whatever. That is until she was twelve and decided to read Harry Potter. When she read the name Dumbledore she immediately recognized it, not only because it's a weird name, but also because it was tattooed on her forearm for crying out loud! And Camila was livid. Not only had she worried all those years about the fate of this poor Dumbledore guy, but now this book series was completely spoiled for her! J.K. Rowling hasn't even finished writing the damn series! Which means Camila knows information about the series that the author doesn't even know yet, and while that is kind of cool, it also really sucks.

All of the scenarios Camila had come up with about her soulmate and having to console them over the death of Dumbledore fly out the window once she realizes what her tattoo really means. All of her new scenarios are about the ways she can hurt someone just enough to get her frustrations out, but not so bad that they hate her, because while she is pissed at them, they are still her soulmate.

When Camila reads the Half Blood Prince, she's not surprised when Dumbledore dies. That doesn't mean she isn't sad though. Or that she doesn't call her best friend Dinah right after to cry about the spoiler and the beloved headmaster.

The week before the Half Blood Prince movie comes out, Camila cannot shut up about how excited she is to watch it. Even if it was spoiled for her, she still loves the books, and the movies are pretty great.

"We have to go see Harry Potter in theatres this weekend, Dinah! You know I love them! The movies are never as good as the books, and my soulmate totally ruined them for me, but they're still great! I mean the spoiler was unintentional I guess, but still. You know what is intentional though? The way they change stuff around in the movies, and totally leave out good stuff from the books. The books have so much more detail that the movies can just never capture. They are so-"

"Walz!" Dinah yells, cutting Camila's rant short.

Camila instantly shuts her mouth, her cheeks turning a deep shade of red as she realizes she was rambling again. She just can't help it though, her thoughts are always going a mile a minute, and she has to get them out somehow.

"You know I love you, but you're giving me a headache. I'm going to go get something from the vending machine. Want something?"

"No thank you. I'll just go back to reading." Camila shrugs.

Camila watches as Dinah walks across the cafeteria. When she goes to grab her book, she notices Dinah stop by a table and take a seat as she talks to two girls. She figures Dinah is just being typical friendly Dinah, and grabs her book. She gets a few pages in before she hears Dinah yell "Holy shit!"

She looks up and notices a third girl has joined the table, but before she can get up to go see what's going on, Dinah is making her way back to hers and Camila's table.

"Walz! You're never going to believe it!" She yells as she sits down.

"What? What is it?" Camila asks, just as excitedly.

"I just met my soulmate! We're going to see Harry Potter this weekend with her and her friends."

Dinah explains the whole conversation to Camila, from how she heard Lauren rambling and stopped to talk until Normani joined them.

"Hey, maybe you'll meet your soulmate this weekend! This is the movie where he dies right?" Dinah said excitedly.

"Huh, I didn't even think of that." Camila replied, mulling over the idea in her head. She hasn't come up with a good enough way to reprimand her soulmate for spoiling what has become her favorite book series. And now she might meet them soon.

------

On Saturday night, Camila still hadn't thought of a good way to get back at her soulmate for spoiling Harry Potter for her. She had to leave to go to the movie soon, and she was clean out of ideas. She figures she could easily just yell at them, but it doesn't feel good enough. She checked the clock to see how long she had until she needed to leave and realizes she should have left ten minutes ago. I am always late she thought.

------

"Camila is always late." Dinah said.

Lauren, Ally, and Normani had spotted Dinah waiting outside the theatre and walked over, but Camila wasn't there yet.

"That's okay, we can wait for her." Ally said.

"Nah, I'll just text her and tell her to meet us inside. We can save her a seat." Dinah said, already pulling her phone out and walking towards the entrance of the theatre.

The girls made their way inside, paid for their tickets, and found some seats near the back of the theatre. Dinah and Normani sat next to each other. To try and give the newly found soulmates some semblance of privacy for their date, Ally and Lauren sat a row behind them, Ally saving a seat next to her for Camila.

Camila made her way into the theatre, grumbling about how Dinah should have just waited for her. When she spotted Dinah, she made her way to the back of the theatre.

"Hey Chancho, movies gonna start. We'll do introductions afterwards, Ally saved you a seat." She said, pointing to the shorter girl in the row behind her.

Camila made her way to her seat, thanked Ally, and sat down as the movie started. The whole movie, she listened to the conversations around her, trying to hear if anyone in there could be her soulmate. Whenever Dumbledore's name was muttered, she would turn her head and try to focus on the conversation but nothing really stuck out. Eventually she gave up and put her sole focus on the movie.

Once the movie got towards the end, Camila became nervous. Dinah may have gotten her hopes up with all this soulmate talk. On top of that, she had to meet three new people tonight, all of which were beautiful, and that made Camila anxious. Not to mention the green-eyed girl in the leather jacket was nothing if not hot. Camila was a clumsy introvert, meeting new people and making good first impressions was not her thing. She wanted so badly to seem cool in front of these new girls, though.

When the credits began to roll, the girls all stood up and made their way to the exit. Camila stayed quiet, waiting for Dinah to take charge and introduce her to the group. They were supposed to all go out to eat after the movie. As they walked to the parking lot, Dinah and Normani held hands and talked, while Lauren and Ally made light conversation. Camila trailed in the back, to awkward to make conversation with anyone.

Lauren felt awkward. The idea of soulmates had lost its appeal when her grandmother passed, and seeing Normani with Dinah was confusing her. Normani looked happy with Dinah, and she wanted to be happy for her. She wanted to be happy like that herself, with her own soulmate. She was just scared. Scared of tragedy and loss and what if her soulmate was taken from her, the way her grandmother had been. They were walking to the parking lot after the movie and Lauren was nodding along to whatever Ally was saying, as she was lost in her thoughts. When they got to where they parked their cars, Ally and Normani immediately started arguing over who should drive. Dinah had driven herself. Lauren had driven herself, Normnai, and Ally. Camila had been dropped off by her mom. Normani thought they could all carpool to the restaurant so they could get to talk to each other longer. Ally thought they should just take both cars so they didn't have to come back to the movie theatre to get the other car.

Dinah was having fun watching Ally and Normani bicker, and Lauren was lost in her thoughts until movement to her left caught her attention. Suddenly Lauren remembered there was someone else there and figured she should try to make conversation with her, especially if their friends were going to be dating.

Lauren cleared her throat and looked at Camila uncertainly, trying to decide what to say. Finally, she settled on talking about the movie, it seemed like the best option.

"I can't believe Dumbledore died."

Camila's eyes widened. Those words. Camila looked at her forearm for a long time. Dinah was right, she would meet her soulmate this weekend. Only she didn't have any way to reprimand this girl. Camila finally looked up at Lauren and glared at her.

Lauren was caught off guard. What had she said that was so bad? Camila tried to say something, but Lauren's eyes were so damn green, and beautiful, and Camila was getting lost in them. She started stuttering, trying to get any words to come out of her mouth so she could yell at this girl for ruining her favorite books for her.

"You! You're the one!" Camila shouted, the rage finally pouring out of her.

Now it was Lauren's turn to widen her eyes. At this point, Ally, Normani, and Dinah had stopped their conversation, and focused on the scene unfolding before them. Ally and Normani, having known what Lauren's tattoo said, were just as shocked to hear Camila say those words.

"That is not at all how I imagined those words would sound." Lauren admitted.

"Do you have any idea what it was like to have that sentence tattooed on me! I was so worried about who the hell this poor Dumbledore guy was and how he had died! I was worried my poor soulmate was devastated over this Dumbledore dude's death!" Camila began ranting.

"Imagine my surprise when I picked up the first Harry Potter book and suddenly realized who Dumbledore was. I had the entire series spoiled for me before I could even finish the first book! I knew Dumbledore died before J.K. Rowling even knew she wanted to kill him!" Camila huffed, out of breath.

At this point Dinah, Ally, and Normani were laughing hysterically. Lauren just looked horrified. Most people would believe it was because she was being screamed at, but Lauren was about to faint because this girl yelling at her was her soulmate. Lauren had stopped wanting her soulmate years ago, she wasn't sure she was ready for this. And to top it all off, her soulmate hated her. This is not at all how she thought this encounter would go.

"Hey, are you okay?" Camila asked, unsure whether she had really scared this girl or if something was seriously wrong.

Lauren could feel herself tearing up, thinking about her grandmother. Her grandmother meant so much to her and in the end she had left Lauren. Her soulmate was supposed to mean something to her, and what if they left too? This tiny, feisty girl in front of her would never get the chance to meet the one person that meant so much to Lauren.

At the same time, she had an epiphany, that her grandma would want her to find her soulmate and be happy. So what if there was the possibility that something bad could happen. That possibility was always there in any situation; all she could do was make the best of it. Lauren nodded in answer to Camila, as she sank down to the ground, the tears finally spilling out.

Camila instantly felt bad, watching Lauren sit on the ground and cry. She had made Lauren cry. She had made her soulmate cry. Camila sat on the ground and pulled Lauren into a hug. It just felt like the right thing to do. Camila hated seeing people cry, especially Lauren. Even though they had only just met, seeing Lauren cry was heartbreaking. Her bright green eyes looked so dull and bloodshot, and Camila hated it.

Lauren started laughing, and let a little smile form on her face when Camila hugged her. This poor girl probably thought she was in shock and crying over her rant. In all honesty, the rant wasn't scary at all, it was rather amusing, and all Lauren could do was laugh.

Camila pulled back and started at her in disbelief and Lauren laughed even harder. And soon Camila and the others were joining in. When they finally stopped laughing, Camila removed her arms from around Lauren and turned to look at her properly.

"I'm sorry I yelled, that was just years of pent of rage over what is literally my favorite book series ever." Camila laughed.

"It really is her favorite. She's gone as Harry Potter for Halloween for like 3 years now." Dinah chimed in.

"Honestly, you're yelling was adorable. That's not why I'm crying. Although, I am happy to know that even when you're mad, you'd still console me." Lauren smirks at Camila.

Camila can feel herself blushing and has to look away from Laurens intense eyes and sexy smirk.

"Well why are you crying then?" Camila asks softly.

"I think that's kind of a long story. But I solved our car dilemma. How about you three go ahead to the restaurant, and Camila and I will meet you there after we talk?" Lauren suggests.

They all quickly agree to this plan, and Ally, Normani, and Dinah all pile into Dinah's car and leave. Once they're gone, Lauren takes a deep breath before turning to face Camila, still sitting on the pavement.

------

Lauren explains how she loved the idea of love until her grandma passed away, and the apprehension to soulmates she had after that. She explains her thought process and fears during her panic attack while Camila yelled at her. Camila nods along as Lauren talks, letting her get out all of her thoughts and fears.

"Thank you for sharing that with me. I'm sure it must have been hard. And I'm sorry about your grandmother." Camila said, when Lauren finished talking.

"It's okay. I think I've just been avoiding dealing with the feelings for a long time. This honestly really helped. I don't think I feel so apprehensive about this whole soulmates thing anymore." Lauren smiled.

Camila returns the smile, staring deeply into bright green eyes. They hold eye contact for a while, just taking in the other one's appearance and presence.

"I definitely don't mind having a soulmate anymore. Especially one as beautiful as you." Lauren said smoothly.

Camila blushes and looks away. She tried to come up with any response as smooth as that, but she falls short.

"Sorry, I would like to say I'm not usually this awkward, but that'd be a lie." Camila laughs.

"Don't worry about it, I think it's adorable. You want to head to the restaurant now?" Lauren asked, as she stood up and offered her hand to Camila.

Camila takes it, and they make their way to Lauren's car.

"So you really thought someone named Dumbledore was going to die, and you'd have to console me?" Lauren questions, thinking about Camila's rant.

"Yes! I was like eight and I was so worried about this guy dying and it being like a really sad thing." Camila complains, happy to make light of the tattoo that has tormented her for years.

"Well, I'm really sorry I spoiled the books for you. If it helps, I haven't read past book five yet, so it's spoiled for me too."

"That does make me feel a little better, thank you."

Camila and Lauren get into her car, and they make their way to the pizza place their friends are already at. The car ride is quiet, each girl thinking about the events of the day. Camila decides that she isn't so angry at her soulmate anymore, if anything this spoiler was worth it if it meant she could get to know the attractive green-eyed girl sitting next to her. Lauren thinks that soulmates aren't so bad after all. No one ever tells you that just their presence makes you feel calm. And the girl sitting next to her is so awkward and adorable, that for the first time since she was fifteen, she's actually excited to have a soulmate.

And the way they met makes for a pretty good story too.

A/N: I know soulmate AU's are kind of overused, but I really thought this would be cute. I have tried my hand at writing, but I usually don't publish anything. So, I hope this turned out as good as I hoped it would and that I did the idea justice. The idea of those being Lauren and Camila's soulmate tattoos was just too cute not to try. Feedback would honestly be appreciated, I want to know if you guys like it. Thanks for reading! :)
