Creating the machine pt.2

You know, there's a part of you that wishes you could say it was hard for you. That you spent the three years before meeting Silco dying in the streets, starving and fighting to stay alive.

Needless to say this wasn't the case.

Remember all that talk people gave about you being lucky? Well it turns out maybe they were onto something.

You walked out of the house you were being kept late at night. You didn't want anyone noticing you. The streets were empty and the sky was dark so you resorted to following street lights. It's not like you had a place to go anyway.

You had been walking sataring at the ground for about an hour when a car stopped right nect to you.

"Hey, little girl! What are you-"

You cut them off immediately "Sorry bae not interested".

the word "bae" slipped out of your mouth, but you honestly didn't care. You didn't even bother looking at who was in the car, you just knew you did not want to talk to any strangers until you got somewhere public. You were snapped out of your thoughts when the person in the car spoke again.

"What did you just call me?"

You looked up at them. It was a white car that looked very luxurious. Inside in the driver seat, looking at you was a tennage girl, maybe 16 or 17 years old, and next to her, sitting on the passenger seat, was a girl that looked about your age.

The girl in the driver seat spoke again. "Did you just call me bae?".

You looked at her with tired eyes. There was a silence of about five seconds before you giggled and said "Sorry, bye". You started walking away before you heard a cackle coming from the car.

"Wait a second girl, you don't think we're just gonna leave you in the street at 11 at night."

You turned around to see them both giggling. That made you smile; it had been a while since someone laughed at you without you falling or tripping over something.

The girl in the passenger seat spoke next. "Let's take her with us, she seems funny!"

"I don't know Soph, what if she's like a murderer or something" Said the older girl.

"Oh my god she's not a murderer" The younger one shot back. "Are you a murderer?"

You giggled. "I mean I just called you bae, I don't know how scary that made me seem to you but..."

They both laughed. "See? I told you!" Said the younger one. "Get in the car you're coming with us...bae". You laughed and got in the backseat. You didn't really know why, but you were too tired to think and you didn't want to keep walking.

The older one locked the doors and stepped on it. "Alright little girl, our school organized a party for the people of the council to meet the new generations of Piltover. It's very high class and that's where we're going. Do you have a dress on you?"

You looked at her with no expression.

She scoffed and let out a laugh. "Sophia has a dress in the trunk, we'll throw it on you in the parking lot."

The younger one squealed. "Ahhh! I get to style her! So fun". You smiled at her and crossed yourself earning a laugh from them both and a playful slap to your leg. "I'm Sophia Zaavar by the way, and this is my sister Isadora." Said the young one. "What's your name?".

You didn't want to think of your lastname. So you just looked at her with a smile and said "I'm Y/N...Just Y/N".

You three giggled the whole car ride.

The party was somehow amazing. You became friends with Sophia's friends almost immediately, and you two danced and hung out together the whole night. Turns out all the rich kids of Piltover were at this thing, and you were making friends with all of them. You were already climbing social ladders before you knew what it was; or how important it would be for you to survive.

Occasionally a song would play that you knew the dance to. You would stop whatever conversation you were having to look at Sophia and she would drag you to the dance floor to dance with her. You would start dancing terribly but with a smile plastered on your face in the middle of all the kids, Sophia laughing and dancing along with you. This would earn you laughs and cheers from all the kids around you, and you were glad they didn't realize you were actually trying your best.

"Y/N tone it down! the adults are gonna think that you're drunk or a child alcoholic!" Said Isadora between laughter.

"Isn't that the plan?!" Yelled Sophia.

"Shhhh Soph don't tell them that or they won't put money in our cup!" You said dramatically. The whole dance floor broke out in laughter.

There was a pretty girl that looked about Isadora's age, with blueish black hair and blue eyes sitting by herself at the back of the room. Sophia had told you she was the daughter of one of the council members. You had seen her serious expression during the whole night, and you got excited when you saw that even she started laughing. You felt euphoric.

The whole night when somewhat like that, except for a little incident that might've just defined your luck for the rest of your life.

You were chatting with Sophia and two of the girls from her grade, and in between the laughter you decided to get bold. "Hey Nat, I dare you to go up those stairs and ask the lady in gold for her autograph". You pointed towards the stairs on the other side of the room, they led to a set of chairs where the council members were sitting.

"Oh hell no Y/N, that's Miss Medarda, my mom is scared of her." Responded the girl.

"I'm not scared of her, I'll do it" You said. And you sped off towards the stairs. You could hear Sophia clapping and cheering for you. You started running, you were confident. Maybe a little too confident, or at least confident enough to reach the top of the stairs. You started running towards the chairs, and right before you could reach the lady in gold. Surprise! You fell on your face.

The whole room went silent.

You had to fix this. How the fuck were you going to fix this, you had to think of something. Piltover's elite were going to think that Isadora and Sophia had brought a child alcoholic, next day on the papers the front page would have the Zaavar sisters in jail. You couldn't let that happen, so you did the best thing your mind could come up with at that moment and yelled at the top of your lungs:

"I'M NOT DRUNK I SWEAR"

There was a moment of silence that covered the room, and then...boom.

The whole room exploted in laughter. The council members almost fell off their chairs, one of them started crying. You could hear Isadora yell from the distance "That's my girl! Hey Sophia take some notes" And then back to laughter.

You let out a sigh of relief.

"Hey Mel, this was the girl that was dancing in the middle of the circle with one of Zaavar's daughters" Said one of the councilmembers. They had a beautiful shaved head and a clock ticking around their neck.

"Yeah, sick moves you were busting down there" Said the lady in gold with a daring smirk.

You didn't stop looking at her from the floor. "Thanks Miss, hit my line and I'll teach you". You heard them all laughing as you got up.

"Come here girl, who did you come with?" Said the woman who you assumed was Mel.

"With Isadora and Soph." You answered back as you stood in front of her.

"I think she means who are your parents" Said a fat man sitting on the other side of the circle of chairs.

"I don't think you know them" You giggled to yourself.

"Then, who invited you kiddo?" Asked the lady with the clock around her neck.

You waited a moment before answering. "Isadora and Soph" you said looking at her with no expression. They started laughing again, you just stood there and smiled.

By this point the conversation in the room had resumed, and Mel asked you to come closer. "You know, you were running pretty fast, it's no wonder you fell. Why were you coming towards me child?"

You snapped back to your senses. "Oh my god, you're Miss Maydorada right?"

She giggled at your question. "It's Medarda, and yes, that's me."

"I'm sorry Miss, I honestly just tend to gravitate towards pretty people so I gravitated towards you" You said, earning a laugh from her as she grabbed your hands. You looked at her and you felt...connected. "You know Miss Maydorada, Nat said that she was scared of you, but I don't think you're scary at all".

She looked at you with confusion in her eyes. "Come here girl, stand next to me." You complied and stoo next to her facing the crowd. "You know, the whole purpose of this party is for me to meet the kids and teens of Piltover, the future of our city, and yet, this whole night I have not spoken to a single one of them".

You looked at her for a moment, and when she turned to face you you could see hurt and sadness in her yes. And you were determined to fix it.

You waved your left hand i the air and yelled towards your new friends "Soph! Alex! Co-"

You were cut off by a hand on your shoulder. You turned to look at Mel. She was staring at you with a smile and wide eyes.

She waited a moment before speaking. "You're a very special child...But I don't want to force it." You looked at her, and then at Sophie, who you gestured to forget that you had called her.

"You know, my relationship with my family always felt forced. I hated that, so so much. When my mother banished me it hurt a lot, but it was also a relief because now, I could make my own relationships, and I promised myself that i wouldn't force anything with anyone. I just...didn't realize it would be so hard".

You hadn't stopped looking at her. "Miss, I don't know if I'm the right person to be giving advice to someone like you but I guess...I guess my family banished me too. It happened out of nowhere." She was looking at you now, her eyes wide as you kept on talking. "Of course there is nothing I would do to prevent it from happening, and it breaks my heart every time that I think about it. But it showed me that forcing relationships isn't necessary at all. The right people will always be there, you just have to open yourself up to them and let things happen."

Her eyes on you felt like headlights, but you felt safe with her. It almost startled you when she spoke again. "What did you say your name was little girl?"

"I'm Y/N Miss." You replied softly.

"On second thought, Y/N, can you call your friends over after all?" She asked with a smile, which you immediately returned and called for your friends.

The kids were shy at first, but after you pulled a couple of your tricks you had all of them laughing and chatting playfully with Mel. You were giggling with Sophia and after a while you gestured for Isadora to bring her friends over. Next thing you know there was a whole group of kids of all ages surrounding 'Miss Maydorada' who wouldn't let you leave her side.

Sophia grabbed your hand and you sneaked out with her to talk somewhere else. "Oh my god, my dress looked so pretty up there above those stairs!" She said dramatically. "Sucks the girl that was wearing it was so ugly". You laughed and gave her a playful punch.

"Fine, I'll go tell that lady with a clock around her neck that you got me drunk so they lock you in jail" you said between laughter.

"Sophia!" You heard Isadora's voice calling her from up the stairs.

"Ugh, what does she want! I'll be right back...bae" She said and took off running, you laughed and stuck your tongue out in her direction.

You looked around the room and saw the girl you had seen earlier, she was still sitting by herself. You hadn't realized before how pretty she actually was. She wore a collared dress that reminded you of an enforcer's uniform. Her features were so perfect, she was almost enchanting to look at.

You could've looked at her for the rest of the night if her own voice hadn't snapped you out of your own thoughts. "Is something wrong?" She asked.

You took a moment to answer. Why were you looking at her like that? "Sorry bae you're just pretty. Bye" You heard her laugh as you were walking away, then you heard her voice again.

"Wait wait come back, you're funnier than I expected." You smiled awkwardly at her comment. She gestured towards the empty chair next to her, and you sat down in it.

You both looked at the giant ballroom. You scoffed "This is some next level rich people shit". Why did you just say that.

She laughed at your comment. "Yeah, it's not as great as it seems. Most of the people that come to these things are so superficial it hurts to talk to them. I actually shouldn't even be here. Our family friend was just robbed and there was an explosion in his apartment".

Your eyes shot open and you took a moment to calm yourself before saying. "Yeah, I heard about that." You considered telling her everything you know: About how the enforcers started the fire the night of the raid, what they were doing with the witnesses, and the conversation you heard on the phone, but all you were able to say was. "I don't think the enfocers are handling it correctly".

She looked at you and said "I know! Jayce is one of the most talented minds in Piltover and they're going to his house and snitching on his tech and Heimmerdinger got mad becau-"

She was cut off by Mel calling you from the stairs "Y/N get your butt up here!"

You yelled at her, still looking at the girl next to you. "Just my butt? That's gonna be difficult!" They started laughing.

The girl looked at you. You were still looking at her with attentive eyes. "You know, you should probably go." She said quietly.

"No, I was talking to you, they can't just interrupt our conversation." You shot back.

"Trust me, my mom is in the council, you should probably go." She said with a smile.

You looked at her for a moment. "What's your name?"

"I'm Caitlyn Kiramann, and I'm assuming you're Y/N?" She whispered.

You just smiled at her. She gestured for you to go to Mel, and you did. You wished you could've finished your talk with her.

You got to the stairs and saw what was happening. They were taking a picture. You shyly approached the group of people in front of the camera and stood in front of Sophia. "Hey look Nat! I found the perfect spot to stand where I don't cover anyo-Ouch ouch ouch!" You squealed as Sophia pulled your hair and everyone started laughing.

"Come here child" You hear Mel's voice calling to you. You awkwardly shuffled over to her in between everyone's laughter.

Just as the photographer was going to take the picture you realized something was missing and yelled out. "Wait!" You moved over to the edge of the stairs "Caitlyn! Come on!". All eyes went to the girl in the back of the room as you gestured for her to come over.

You grabbed her hand when she reached the top of the stairs and you both walked to the middle next to Medarda. You felt safe.

--------

After they took the picture you stayed a while chatting with Mel. The night was almost over and people were starting to leave. You were making jokes and listening to her laugh when a question popped into your head.

"Miss Maydorada, can I ask you something? The smile you had for the picture. Did you force it?"

She looked at you with analyzing eyes. "You know what, now that you mention it, I didn't force it" She beamed a calm smile at you.

You looked away as the thoughts flooded your mind, you didn't even realize your lips were moving before the words came out of your mouth. "They're dead you know...My family".

She looked at you in shock. Silence. Why had you just said that?

"The raid. Is that was took them?" She asked. You nodded. "Where are you staying tonight?" You shrugged and lifted your shoulders. Up until this moment you had been somewhat numb to the pain, but right now you were at the verge of tears. You felt her place her hands on your shoulders and you turned to hug her. She immediately hugged back.

"Elora! Is the visitors apartment ready for occupants?" Mel asked a lady in the crowd.

"Yes, Mel. Would you like the keys?" The lady answered. Mel nodded as you looked at her in awe. "Now you know where you're staying tonight" You didn't know what to say.

"Thank you...Thank you thank you! Oh my god thank you one million times! I'll do whatever you need! I'll clean, I'll cook, Ooh, I can make a killer grilled cheese sandwich!" She simply laughed at your reaction. "You know, if you want to we could have a sleepover tonight." You said without thinking.

She waited a moment before answering.

"I would love that".
