Chapter 21

R Y A N

IT WAS MONDAY and I was in the elevator at Greyson Designs, making my way to the top floor. Nate had asked me to come down to the office around lunchtime for a quick walk around, to see how I felt about being their new PA. In all honesty I had my answer as soon as Nate proposed it to me, but I was still thinking about his other burning question non stop. After catching up with Sophie at lunch yesterday it got me thinking really hard about the Greyson Brothers and what Nate actually meant by 'them both wanting me'. I was confused and conflicted over my feelings and I really didn't know what to do.
Ever since I had been back from college all I ever thought about was them. They consumed every thought in my head during the day and starred in every dream I had at night. I only ever thought about them and I needed to ask them what their intentions really were. Was this a casual thing? Or something more?

I checked my reflection in the mirror of the elevator, smoothing down my white ruffled shirt and black trousers. Luckily enough I had clothes in my wardrobe that fitted working in an office and even had Sophie help me buy a pair of flat black shoes because I didn't want to look bad walking around the office in my Vans. Even though I was tempted to.
The floor numbers count up as I go pass each floor until the elevator dings at the top of the building - the 35th floor and I turn around looking left to right as I walk out. It's been so long since I've been here, but everything still looks the same, it just has a new coat of paint.
The walls were painted white with three black vertical stripes painted in the middle around the room. The large floor to ceiling windows gave you a great view of the city with two love seats and a chair facing towards the view. In the middle of the room was a large black double desk with a glass top, on the front in gold lettering was 'Greyson Designs'. When I look over the desk I then notice the women sitting behind it as she looks up at me with a smile.

"Ah, Ryan?" The blonde haired women, roughly in her mid-twenties says standing up. She's dressed in a navy blouse, unbuttoned to a dangerously low level and I mentally roll my eyes at the sight. She clearly is a Greyson groupie, there were many of them when I worked here and whenever one of them pasted through to see their Mother or Grandfather they would swoon as soon as the boys stepped off the elevator. "I'm Molly, I'm the receptionist, if you carry on down that hall, take a left, Emma is waiting for you." She says gesturing to the hallway on her left.

"Thank you." I smile politely and head towards where she pointed, even though I knew exactly where I was going.

Walking down the corridor, I pass all the conference rooms that have glass walls, making them feel open. The floor to ceiling windows still dominate the rooms with its view as the rays of sunshine stream onto the floor and reflecting off of the large, black glass tables. To my left, the same white and black striped walls that were in the reception area carry on down the hallway, but are filled with pictures of different buildings. All of these are pictures of a building that either Mrs Greyson's or her Father designed themselves and I think back to Mrs Greyson showing me this wall when I first started here in high school.
I pass a few people that must be dropping off documents or have been in a meeting, all with faces I don't really remember or have never seen before. I politely smile back at them and then follow the corridor round to the left. As I get to the end, the room opens up to a large round room, two black double doors sit next to each other. When I worked here Mrs Greyson had the office to the right while her Fathet had the other one. Unless you worked closely with them you didn't know whose office was whose because they weren't marked, but now I can clearly see the black plaques next to each door, the one on my right in blue reads 'Nathan Greyson' while the other reads 'Nicholas Greyson' in red. Even on their office doors they show their personalities and I chuckle at the sight, shaking my head.
When I look around the room that I once called my office and will once again after today, I see that it's been updated. The white coloured walls that once were here are now a deep navy, four black and white silhouette pictures are hung up with a large black mirror between the two office doors. Just like the reception and conference rooms the windows are floor to ceiling, opening up the space with light. I can't believe I get to look at this view while I'm here. The one desk that use to be here is now two separate ones, black in colour, each facing each other on either side of the room. That's when I notice her and my smiles widens.

"Ryan! So wonderful to see you again," Emma says when she notices me, she stands up, rushing towards me pulling me in for a hug.

Emma was part of the legal department, which meant that any paperwork that passed through me from Mrs Greyson went directly to her first. Contracts, finances and all of the legal mumbo jumbo that made no sense to me. Emma was a few years older than Nico, with dark brown hair and eyes, she had pale white skin with soft features and her face was covered in freckles. Her round thick red glasses sat on the tip of her nose and I remember she always constantly used to push them up. I admire her red blouse and I chuckle to myself at the white dots, thinking how she always wore polka dots, every single day - it was like her signature.

"Emma! Your looking well," I smile at her, giving her a warm, welcoming hug.

"Oh shush! Look at you! All grown up now," she says hitting my shoulder.

Emma started the same day as I did when I worked my first summer here, both of us had our induction and safety training together so from then on she always made sure she came and got me for lunch even though she worked three floors down. But as we both started together, we hardly knew anyone else and stuck together the first few weeks. Even though Emma was eight years my senior, we actually got on pretty well and had loads in common.

"I didn't know you was moved up here?"

"Only temporary, I'm covering the days that Chris isn't here and Laura left unexpectedly so the bosses were desperate," she says leaning in and then whispering. "I was the only one who could work for them closely without trying to sleep with them," she giggles. I blush pink, looking down thinking of the double standards in my situation.

"Talk about 'pot calling the kettle black' Ryan," I think, mentally rolling my eyes.

"How's... Claire?" I ask, carefully asking her the question and hoping I didn't get the name wrong.

"Actually it's Ashley now," she smiles, nodding happily, but then her face turns sour and now I regret asking her anything at all. Claire had been her partner for a few years before she started here, I met her a few times and had minimal interaction with her, but I remember Emma was completely smitten with her. "Claire and I spilt up a year and a half ago... she now lives in Canada... with her husband... Steve," she says bitterly, trying to force a smile.

"I'm so sorry Emma, if I had-"

"No, no, no, it's fine. Totally over it, I should of known she wasn't gay from the start, my gay radar must of been broken," she chuckles. "Just wish she knew that before she decided to cheat on me."

*BUZZ* A loud noise interrupts our reunion, Emma points her finger up at me and mouths "one min" before running behind the desk and pressing a button on the telephone.

"Yes Mr Greyson?"

"Emma, I need the report for the Baxter project and can you email accounting asking them to check up on the finals for the Hudson account please?"

"Yes sir, I'll have that for you right away."

"Thank you. Also, I need some documents sent down to legal for Reggie to look at again, there seems to be some errors I've spotted and they need to be proof read again."

"No problem Mr Greyson."

"Thank you."

"Oh and Miss Blake is here, shall I send her in now or-" suddenly the door behind Emma burst's open and Nate stands by the doorway, smiling his award winning smile and those cheeky sexy dimples. His hands are stuffed into his dress pants, as he leans on the doorframe of his office as I see him look me up and down, hungrily undressing me with his eyes like he did the other night.

"Think unsexy thoughts Ryan... think unsexy thoughts and don't make it look obvious he effects you!" I think.

"Afternoon beauti-..." he clears his throat, cutting off the nickname he always calls me and then straightening himself up, looking at Emma with a crooked smile then back to me he says, "....Ryan." Emma looks between us, a small smirk on her lips as she crosses her arms and I just stand there ogling Nate.

He's dressed in a grey suit that matches his grey stormy eyes, crisp white shirt and a light grey tie. His suit fits him to perfection, secretly showing you what muscles he has underneath and I'm sure there's actual dribble dripping from my mouth. As much as Matthew and I was very much in the grey sweatpants club, I always appreciated a good looking guy in a nice suit and boy, he did not disappoint. He looks so delicious and I try hard to swallow the lump in my throat, trying to rid my mind of images on the back seat of his car, wriggling beneath him as he touches me.

"Hi," is all I manage to squeak out and he smirks back at me, walking towards me to place a kiss on my cheek.

"Is it hot in here?" I think.

"Emma, I'll sort out the Hudson and Baxter accounts myself, just ask Zane to come pick up those documents for Reggie for me. If you don't mind showing Miss Blake around to refresh her memory that would be great then you two can go grab lunch," he smiles at me and points to Emma's desk. "Your contract is already printed."

"Thanks," I whisper out.

"No problem beauti- Ryan," Nate corrects himself again and I feel my cheeks heat up, my eyes going wide at him with embarrassment.

"Ooookay," Emma says smugly while she still stares at us. "Don't forget you have that two o'clock meeting with Nic via video conference and then you have a meeting at three with Clive. Oh and a Gloria called? She left no message, but said you know who she is and could you call her," Emma says handing him a post-it note. Nate frowns, looking sheepishly at me before stuffing the note in his pocket while clearing his throat.

"On it. Please don't forget to pass by Leon for Ryan's security pass."

"Will do."

"Ladies," Nate says with a nod and then disappears back through to his office - closing the door behind him.

"I can cut the sexual tension with a knife!" Emma giggles at me, but I shush her, hitting her shoulder.

TWO HOURS later and I'm back in the main office, sitting at the desk I will call my day time jail cell for the next year that I'm home. Nothing had really changed in the time I had been away. There were loads of faces I recognised and I was glad they remembered me. There was a few new faces here and there, but this was a family run business and I knew that most of the people who worked here always knew they had a set job for life no matter what.
Emma explained I was going to be working Monday's and Wednesday's by myself then with the other PA the Brother's had would work the rest of the week, while we both worked on Fridays. Emma had mentioned that it was a temporary contract that was to be reviewed at the end of summer which could only mean only thing - they were planning on me eventually working full time for them. Very sneaky.
I didn't mind the full time work, heck - I'd love a full time job, but I didn't want to get too comfortable and there be a possibility that I'd be stuck here forever without actually doing what I wanted. Which, at the moment I'm unsure of. I'm excited to meet Chris, knowing that I wouldn't be alone in this big room by myself all day. That was the problem I had my first summer when I worked here. I was the only PA for the first three weeks while Mrs Greyson's PA at the time, Charlotte, was away on vacation. It was the loneliness three weeks of my life and as much as I loved my own company, after all the paperwork and errands were completed I didn't know what to do with myself.

"So..." Emma says taking out her garden salad she bought downstairs in the canteen, then sprinkling french dressing over it, "that's everything. Nathan wants you to start in two weeks..."

"Two weeks?" I say pausing as I grab my own salad from the white paper bag in front of me.

"It's your summer vacation right? Nathan said that him and Nicholas agreed you'd start in two weeks, I've got the start date as two Mondays from now."

"I guess I just thought they needed me straight away," I shrug. With Matthew and Sophie leaving in a few weeks I was grateful that I didn't need to start at Greyson Designs so soon, I could be spending some more time with my two best friends before they leave to go back to college.

"They do, but I overheard Nathan say that you'll get two weeks paid vacation from today because it's still your summer vacation and the first one you've had in a while back home," she says as she takes a bite of her food.

"Two weeks paid vacation? That's not normal" I think.

I was grateful for the late start date, but now it felt like special treatment. Like they were giving me something that they wouldn't of given a regular employee in their first week. But if I know the Greyson family, that will be an argument I won't win.

"Oh," was all I could say. If I made a big deal of it, they would of easily found out and I didn't want it getting to both of the Brother's that I was ungrateful for their gratitude.

"I'm pleased your back working here again, honestly the last few PA's we've had working here have been awful! The last one Laura? Total bimbo, I can't tell you how many times I've had to send contracts back up here for Chris to deal with," she scoffs.

"Chris is the other PA, right?"

"Mmmmm," she nods with a mouth full of food. "Nice guy, thought he was a real douche when he started but actually, he proved me wrong. I think you'll get along, he's the same age as you, went to school around here so you might even know him. He's not really my type buuuuut, I have to say, he is handsome," she winks with a cheeky smile.

"Emma."

"What? He is... not Greyson handsome but I see you two... you know," she winks again and I can't help but blush while I disregard her words.

"Is there something wrong with your eye?" I laugh.

"I'm just saying, your gonna be cooped up here all alone with three hot guys-"

"Your a lesbian Emma," I chuckle.

"And I can spot a good looking guy a mile away, I wasn't always gay you know."

"I'm going to be working here Emma, not flirting," I coyly say, eating my own food.

"Working huh? So all that flirting and sexual tension with Nathan earlier was nothing huh?" She says smiling with her brow raised at me.

I go to answer her, trying to throw her off the scent that something isn't going on between us when a deep rumble of someone clearing their throat echos behind us. I turn a crimson red, wondering if Nate had heard the whole of our conversation, mentally face palming myself. "Gossiping already?" He says, leaning on the door frame of his office, just like he did before.

I turn to look at him, slowly gliding my eyes over his body. When I reach his face his eyes bore into me, a small smile tugging on his lips and I can't help but lick mine. He watches my action, eyes purposely staring at my tongue wetting them and all I want to do right now is kiss him.

"I've turned into a horny teenager!" I think.

"Dunno what your talking about Mr Greyson," Emma says with a smirk and I look away from Nate, finally realising we aren't alone.

"Uh-huh," he smiles with his gorgeous smile. "Emma, once you finish lunch I need you to run this down to the couriers. Nic needs it for a business dinner later on this evening and it looks like I'll be stuck here till late," he says walking over to us, dropping a thick file on the desk.

"No problem Mr Greyson."

"I can take it to him if you like?" I ask, looking up at him. Nate stands tall next to me, literally hovering over me like a lion about to pounce on it's prey. I can smell his citrus and musky smell and I can't help but inhale deeply, taking in his sexiness.

"Seriously Ryan? What is wrong with you?" I think as I shut my eyes briefly,
trying to rid my mind of all the things I've fantasied about.

"You sure Ryan?"

"Yeah. I'm just finishing lunch with Emma and then I'm heading straight home anyway, I can make a pit stop next door." I smile up at him.

"Thanks beautiful... errr, I mean Ryan," he says scratching the back of his neck as he looks at Emma with a cautious look.

"You know, all these nicknames are cute and all, but I don't think you should be saying them in front of people at work Mr Greyson," Emma chuckles. "Your lucky I know your practically family."

"Back to work Emma," Nate groans annoyed with a roll of his eyes and a smirk, he starts walking back to his office when Emma laughs out loud.

"Do I get a cute nickname?"

"Back to work Emma!" He says again as he enters his office.

"I'm on lunch sir."

"Yeah, Yeah."

If I'm going to be working here, I'm going to have to act professional around them. But that also includes Nate not calling me beautiful in the office.
