Chapter 7: Isabella's secret meeting

At first Heathcliff used the freedom of visiting Thrushcross very seriously, as if trying to find a way to find out how Mr. Linton would endure his visits. catherine now welcomed Heathcliff with a more calm attitude, and so Edgar's frustrated mood calmed down.

At the time, Isabella was an eighteen-year-old lady, full of charm, but we noticed that she didn't seem to be well, because she was increasingly irritable and drowsy. One day Catherine advised her to go to bed rest and should call a doctor from Gimmerton to visit. - I'm perfectly healthy. - She opposes Catherinem - Only her uniqueness can make me miserable.

- How can you tell me I'm cool? - Catherine asked in surprise. - You tell me when I'm not nice to you?

- Yesterday, - Isabella sobbed. - As we strolled through the wilderness, she told me where I wanted to go, while she walked with Mr. Heathcliff.

- But what is so unkind? - Catherine asked. - I just thought it would be unattractive to talk to Mr. Heathcliff

- I don't mind talking. - Isabella replied. - I just want to be around ... - Come here she hesitated.

- Sao

- Stay with him. I don't want to be kicked out all the time, Catherine. She is an old dog with bones. She did not want anyone to be peaceful except herself.

- What a mess! - Catherine exclaimed in surprise. - I really can't believe this folly. Surely you don't crave Heathcliff's admiration? I hope I misunderstood

- No, I don't misunderstand. - The unhappy girl said. - I love him more than you ever loved Edgar, and he can love me if you leave him alone.

"If so, give me an entire kingdom, I do not want to be in position," Catherine announced. - Ellen, please help me to show her how crazy she is. Tell her what kind of person Heathcliff is: a wild animal that is not domesticated, a barren wasteland. Do not think that hiding under that strict face is a kind heart! he is not a pearl son. he was a fierce, callous, and selfish person. I know he could never have loved a member of the Linton family, although he was very capable of marrying her to steal her fortune.

Every single Catherine said was her true thought, but Isabella only cried out:

- How can you talk about him like that while he is my friend?

- I have to endure suffering with her selfishness. - Isabella sobbed, telling me when Catherine had left the room. - Mr. Heathcliff certainly has a noble soul; otherwise he would never remember her sister

- You get him out of your mind, Miss Isabella. - I say. - Ms. Linton said it strongly, but she was right. She knows his heart better than anyone. And she's never going to exaggerate your bad personality. Honest people don't hide their jobs. Over the past few years, how has he lived? How did he get rich? Why did he come to Wuthering Heights, in the house of a person he hated? Rumor has it since he came, Mr. Earnshaw has become increasingly redder. They sit and gamble all night together. Mr. Hindley took all his land to borrow money and now dad)? He did nothing but gamble and drink alcohol.

- You're as bad as everyone else, Ellen. - Isabella replied. I will not listen to your slander.

whether Isabella will finally recover from her infatuation, we have no chance to discover it. The next day, Mr. Edgar Linton was away from home all day to attend a meeting. catherine and Isabella were sitting in the library, coldly, without saying a word, Heathcliff, knowing that Edgar was away, visited the hamlet. Isabella was busy reading, so it wasn't until Heathcliff came in that she knew he was coming.

- Come in. - Catherine cheered. - There are two people here who need someone to talk to for fun, and he is the one we both agreed to choose. Heathcliff, I'll show you someone who loves you more than me. My poor husband-in-law is heartbroken for you. Come to think of it, Edgar's brother-in-law is within your reach!

Isabella got up and tried to run out of the room.

"No, no, Isabella," Catherine continued, pretending to be joking. - You shouldn't run away. Yesterday we argued like dogs and cats about you, Heathcliff. She told me that as long as I stepped aside, he would love her forever.

- Catherine! - Isabella gasped, trying to get away from Catherine holding the hand - Mr. Heathcliff, please tell your friend to let me go. She forgot how much I and he didn't know each other. This game she can say is funny, but it makes me very hurt.

Heathcliff said nothing, just sat down, indifferent. Isabella turned to her sister-in-law, whispering begging to let her go.

- No way. - Catherine cried. - I don't want to be called an old bastard. She had to stay. Heathcliff, are you not happy with the news I just reported? She was angry with me because the other day I had dismissed her, not letting her be with him.

Heathcliff leaned back in his chair.

- Now surely she wants to get out of my presence. - He said.

he stared at her as if he were looking at some weird, disgusting animal.

Isabella could no longer stand it. Her face turned red and turned white again. She used her no-hold hand, rubbing the back of the hand that was holding tightly to Catherine, immediately letting go of her and Isabella fleeing outside.

- That's a female tiger for you. Catherine said, waving her hand in pain. - Does the soul, Heathcliff! You must hold your eyes carefully when she's standing there.

- I will pluck her fingers off if they threaten me. - He said brutally. - But why are you teasing her that way? Aren't you telling the truth?

"Oh, you're serious," Catherine said firmly. - She said she loved you passionately. But no, do not worry about what that is. I just wanted to punish her for what she told me the day before. I really like her Heathcliff, so I can't let you catch her and chew her whole life.

- And I like her at all to try it. - He said.

Be silent for a while.

- Is she your brother's heir? - He asked.

- That's the way it is now, but I hope I'll give birth to a dozen sons, and then she will no longer be the heir. I'm eager to take over your neighbor's property too, but remember that in this case, that neighbor's property is yours.

So this subject was left out of their conversation, or perhaps it was out of Catherin's mind. But all that night, when Miss Linton left the room, Heathcliff's lips showed a smile. laugh hard to understand.

A few days later, Catherine and I were stunned to see him meet Isabella in the garden, because we had not heard anything about such an arrangement. Then Heathcliff walked toward the kitchen door, and Catherine rushed down to meet him there.

- What do you mean? - She asked. - Who invited you to visit Isabella? I told you to leave her alone, but now I beg you not to do that if you don't want to be banned by Edgar.

- Please God, don't let him try it. - The wicked person exclaimed. - God keep him always meek and patient.

- Shh! - Catherine spoke quickly, closing the door inside. - Why are you ignoring my request? If you like Isabella then you'll get her. But do you like her? Tell me the truth, Heathcliff. There, he did not want to answer. I'm sure you don't like it.

- And will Mr. Edgar approve his younger sister to marry Heathcliff? - I ask.

- I have a way to get him to approve. - Catherine said, her voice confident.

- He could not work. - Heathcliff said. - I can arrange it without his approval. As for you, Catherine, you mistreated me, and if you think that I will bear with it without revenge, soon you will see the opposite. In the meantime, I thank you for saying my husband's secret. I swear I'll take advantage of that. And please do not intervene!

- What is this new aspect of your personality? - Miss Linton exclaimed, surprised. - Did I treat you badly and you will take revenge? What will he take revenge, ungrateful shit? How did I treat you so badly?

"I am not seeking to take revenge on you," said Heathcliff in a gentler voice. - That's not my plan. The tyrant trampled on his slaves, but they did not turn against him, but turned to oppress the men below. She was so spoiled and happy for me to die to have fun, but she had to allow me to entertain myself that way. There was a time when she suppressed my hopes. Don't admire your own kindness when you think of giving me a replacement.

"I want to bring misery to the left," Catherine asked. - Now when Edgar is willing to let you visit this place, I feel reassured, yet he is just diligently trying to create discord. Just get in trouble with Edgar if you want, Heathcliff, and cheat on his sister. You have chosen the best way to take revenge on me.

The conversation ended and Catherine sat down by the fireplace, her face flushed with anger. heathcliff stood with his arms crossed on the mantelpiece floor, continuing to contemplate malicious thoughts. I left them there to go up to meet Mr. Linton, who was wondering why his wife had been downstairs so long. I told him that Heathcliff was in the kitchen and told the details of that secret meeting.

- What a shocking news, Ellen. - He exclaimed. - He is not allowed to visit this house anymore. Call me two servants. He instructed his servants to wait in the hallway, then went into the kitchen, where Catherine and Heathcliff had been fighting furiously.

- What's this about? - Edgar asked his wife. - Why are you staying here when this evil person talks to you?

- Did you eavesdrop on the door, Edgar? - She asked in a tone that sounded disdainful at his attitude.

heathcliff heard that smirked contemptuously, and so Edgar turned to him:

"I was very patient with him," he said, his voice calm, - because I knew Catherine wanted to maintain his friendship with him. But now he abuses my hospitality so I forbid him to visit this house. Please get out of here right now!

Heathcliff looked at the one who spoke, looking disdain:

- Catherine, your lamb is as threatening as a bull. - He said. - I'm sorry, Mr. Linton, but I don't think you're worth letting me down.

Mr. Linton signaled me to call two servants. His wife guessed what was going on, rushed over to the door, locked it, and pulled the key out of the lock.

- No, I won't have anyone to help me. - She told her husband. - If you don't have the courage to attack Heathcliff on your own then you should admit you're losing and apologize to him! I was rewarded for being kind to both of you! I have treated your weak nature, Edgar, and your evil nature, Heathcliff, but this is how it is. edgar, I was protecting your rights when you came in here, so I want Heathcliff to fight you for daring to think badly of me.

So she threw the door key at the hottest part of the fireplace. Edgar trembled and turned pale like a corpse. he leaned back in a chair, his hands on his face.

- I wish you pleasure with this coward. - Your friend said. - Just imagine that this is the man you like more than me!

He went to the chair Edgar Linton was leaning on and pushed one. Mr. Linton immediately jumped up, punched his neck hard in the sky, but if it was a smaller guy, he would have been knocked to the ground. Heathcliff was out of breath for a minute and while he caught his breath, Mr. Edgar came out of the kitchen through the back door and walked around to the front of the house.

- Get out of here, hurry up. - Catherine begged Heathcliff. - He will return to bring guns and assists. Today, I caused trouble for you. But now, hurry, I'll help you escape from here.

- Do you think I will leave after being punched? - Heathcliff roared. - No! I'll crush his ribs and then get out of this house. I will kill him!

- He won't come back. - I lie. - There is a doctor and two gardeners are coming. Surely you won't wait for those servants to kick you out!

heathcliff grabbed the coal bar, smashed the inner door lock, then fled as Mr. Linton and his hordes of servants came along the other way.

Catherine went back to her room and locked the door. For two days, she refused to eat and drink, saying that she was seriously ill and did not want to eat. her husband, after warning Isabella never to talk to Heathcliff again, remained in the library reading books, waiting for Catherine to pass what he was sure to be an expression of anger, a tantrum. momentarily.
