Wild Dog 10

I don't feel good.

He knew that Wyatt thought he was asleep, so he decided to take advantage of the situation as he was carried through the airport. It was a bit rude of him to play coy, but he really, honestly, didn't feel well.

"I know that you're still awake, and I'm more than happy to carry you," Wyatt said as they made their way to his car.

They had thankfully gotten a pretty close parking spot, and after being settled in the front seat and snapped into a little car harness, he heard Wyatt move around to the other side and slid into his spot. The heater was turned on a moment later, and pretty soon Ravi was having trouble staying awake. He wasn't sure when he'd drifted off, but it felt like it had only been a few minutes when he groggily opened his eyes.

Wyatt was carrying him up the stairs to his apartment as gently as possible, but it was hard not to wake him. He'd slept on pins and needles for years. He definitely appreciated the man's attempts to be careful, though.

I love this man.

"Feeling a little better?" Wyatt asked as he carefully balanced Ravi's body against his chest with one arm as he unlocked his door.

Oh, I had been moving my tail. He really was bad at pretending to be asleep.

Whenever he was excited, which was the majority of the time he spent awake and not stressed, his tail had a mind of its own. He didn't really wag it like a dog might, but it was sort of close. Any sort of positive or excitement got it moving this way or that.

"Always distracted," Wyatt said with a chuckle as he got the door closed, then settled Ravi on the couch with a soft pillow beneath his head.

Ravi gave a tired, quiet whine, drawing Wyatt right back to the couch. He felt the man's hand rub at the fur between his ears for a moment before disappearing.

I miss master Blake.

Of course, he knew that the man had left, but since he was more wild dog than person most of the time, his mind didn't want to accept the information it had. He was nudged out of his thoughts as he felt a gentle tug on his right ear.

"Ravi, would it be okay if I took you to a doctor?" he asked, making Ravi immediately sit up, intent on shaking his head... but it didn't quite work that way. Instead of completing, or even starting the gesture, he simply just flopped right back over onto the couch with a little grunting whine.

"Alright, we're going to a clinic," Wyatt said as he got his shoes back on and grabbed his keys from where he'd set them on the counter.

Ravi tried to wiggle his way out of the room, but he barely managed to get off the couch and take three steps toward the bathroom before he flopped over again.

I don't feel good, master Wyatt.

Pursing his lips, Wyatt calmly lifted Ravi back up onto the couch, then settled next to it on the floor and pulled his phone out from his back pocket. He quickly scrolled through his contacts until he found the man he needed to call. He picked up after the first ring, as per usual, but when the man spoke, his voice didn't sound familiar.

"This is Dr. Green's office, how may I help you?"

Wyatt heard the actual doctor grumble in the background, making the man who answered the phone stutter for a moment before correcting himself.

"I mean, he can't come to the phone right this second. Can I help you instead?"

Wyatt raised an eyebrow but replied calmly.

"I was wondering if Dr. Green was available to do a house call sometime today?"

The man told him to hang on a moment, then covered the receiver so that when he yelled to the doctor, it just sounded like muffled nonsense. It took him a few moments before he returned to the call.

"May I ask who is speaking?"

Wyatt lifted one hand to gently pet Ravi's head as he replied.

"Wyatt Pearson."

His named was relayed back to the doctor with another shout. This time, the receiver wasn't muffled, but the guy at least held the phone away from his mouth when he yelled. There were a few random jostling sounds, then a familiar voice finally came on the line.

"Sorry master Wyatt. My daughter had my hands covered in glue and when I tried to wash it off she grabbed my arm and, well, you can imagine that I'm now terribly traumatized," Dr. Green said, drawing a smile onto Wyatt's lips.

"I'm sure you're loving every second of it," he replied, earning a chortle from the man without hesitation.

"More than anyone could ever know. I'm going to be busy watching her for the next hour, but I can come by once my wife gets home, if that will work?"

That was definitely better than what he'd expected. While Dr. Green didn't have an actual office, he was always in high demand because he made house calls and his prices were incredibly reasonable.

"That would be perfect. I'm still at the same address," he said, knowing that the guy always double checked that ever since he was accidentally sent to a housewarming orgy party by mistake by a now former client. That story never ceased to be funny.

"Perfect! Ah, would it be alright if I brought my cousin along?" the man asked, then continued in a whisper, "I know he loves my daughter, but I can tell that he could use a bit of a break."

He wasn't a huge fan of random people coming to his home, but if Dr. Green trusted his cousin to behave appropriately, then that was fine.

"Sure, he can come," he said, earning a grateful "thank you" from the doctor before they said their goodbyes.

As soon as he'd hung up Wyatt stood and headed over to the kitchen. He quickly made some mint and honey tea, then took a little container of plain, cooked ground turkey out of the fridge. He added just the tiniest amount of it to Ravi's little dog bowl, then poured the tea over it.

It definitely wasn't appetizing to him, but he'd observed Ravi for many years, and it was completely true that he was more pup than person. He treasured food, now even more so than he had before after being starved by his former master, so if he ever wanted to get him to eat something, it was as easy as adding any kind of meat to the concoction.

"Ravi," he said as he quietly approached and knelt beside the couch.

The pup gave a quiet grumble of acknowledgement, but didn't even open its eyes.

"Little Ravioli, I got you some turkey," he said as he gently slid his hand beneath Ravi's warm chest and helped lift him until he could scoot himself onto the edge of the sofa and gently tug Ravi closer so that he could slump over one of his knees.

That gave him enough room to hold the bowl just beneath his nose.

Three, two, one...

Ravi's tongue slowly slid from his mouth and licked the air blindly.

"You're such a sweet goofball," Wyatt said lovingly as he lifted the bowl to the perfect height.

As soon as Ravi's tongue touched the strange tea-soup he began drinking steadily. Wyatt picked the little bits of turkey out of the liquid and offered them to him every so often since he didn't seem able to really do more than lap up the tea.

Once the pup had finished everything Wyatt settled him fully back on the couch, then got up and ran a quick load of dishes so that his bowl would be nice and clean for later, since he had a feeling that he was going to probably need it.

It wasn't long after he'd finished, as he was drying his hands on a printed dish towel with little black rabbits running about it, that he hear someone gently knock on his door.

He calmly walked over and, after checking the peephole, opened the door. The doctor greeted him with a tired-yet exuberant smile as he carried his large bag inside. Wyatt watched him for a moment before realizing that someone else was still standing outside his door.

What...?

It took every ounce of control he had not to slam the door shut in the man's face... and he was glad for it. It wasn't him

There was no way that he wasn't the man's twin, though he hadn't been aware that he'd had one, but the person standing before him definitely wasn't Ravi's ex. He still didn't want to be nice, but this man didn't deserve his ire. At least, not yet. If he ended up being anything like his twin brother, he wouldn't hesitate to put him in his place, though. Which would be out in the cold until the doctor was finished.

"Is something the matter?" Dr. Green called from inside, no doubt curious as to why he'd stalled in letting his cousin inside.

Wyatt pursed his lips and fought not to narrow his eyes on the man in front of him.

"I'm not sure how to say this any other way, but the patient I called the doctor to see today was abused by your brother. I don't think that seeing such a similar face would help him recover," he said as nicely as possible.

The man's eyes widened as he spoke, honest surprise on his face.

"Ravi isn't feeling well?" he asked, making Wyatt hesitate on deciding his next set of actions.

If the man already knew about Ravi, then had he been an accomplice in his brother's torture of the poor pup?

Seemingly sensing that he was digging himself a grave already, the man lifted a hand to rub at the back of his neck as he frowned.

"I'm sorry about what happened. I didn't know that my brother was being abusive and I sat down and talked with him about it yesterday. I still don't understand why he did what he did, but I told him that I could help him get some counseling help and he's agreed to look into it."

That... wasn't the response he had expected.

Wyatt took a few moments to reconsider the situation, not minding that there was now silence between the two of them. He rarely ever considered such a thing awkward. It was far more uncomfortable to say something incorrectly just to fill a space of time with sound, then to simply allow it to exist. The world was made of silence, as well as a sound. It was not a bad thing that needed to be covered up.

Thankfully, the man before him slid his hands into his coat pockets and seemed more than content to stand and wait for his response... even though it was getting quite cold out again.

I don't want to startle Ravi by bringing him inside, since he looks so much like his ex, but at the same time, I did say that he could come over.

Of course, that was before he knew who he was, but the invitation had still been given, and accepted.

Wait a minute...

"When did you last meet Ravi?"

His brother had clearly not treated him well for a while, so he wanted to know if he had simply ignored the abuse, or had honestly not been around to see it.

"I last saw him yesterday evening. That was my first time actually seeing him in person, too. He had wandered back to my brothers' home, but when I tried to walk away after visiting with my brother, Ravi ran up and grabbed my coat, startling me since I hadn't seen him coming."

That definitely sounded like hyper Ravi.

"I really like my coat, though, so I ended up trading him my scarf for it."

Wyatt nodded, glad that he was finally figuring out who the scarf had come from.

"Unfortunately, or honestly, I'd like to say fortunately, that was when my brother walked out of the house. I knew that Ravi was his significant other because I'd seen several pictures of him before, but when Ravi began to cower away from him, I realized that something was really wrong. When it seemed like he was almost considering going back to my brother, who was calling to him to come closer, I stepped in."

The guy hesitated for a few moments as he ran shaky fingers through his wind-rustling hair, then gave a stressed sigh.

"It might not have been my right to come between them, but there was clearly something wrong going on. Thankfully, Ravi didn't hesitate much before turning around after I talked to him, and, I guess, heading back here."

Well, now he at least had the full picture of what had happened the previous night. It also now made sense why Ravi wasn't feeling well. Stress did terrible things to the body, and add in walking around outside in the cold for who knew how long?

Alright, you got the information you needed. Just one more question.

"How did Ravi react when he saw you? You look almost identical to your brother," Wyatt asked, his tone more relaxed than it had been previously.

The other man offered a small smile and shrugged.

"He was a bit startled, at first, but that didn't stop him from trying to take my coat."

That's definitely Ravi.

Since he hadn't reacted badly to the man, Wyatt decided to finally end his interrogation. Extending an arm, he offered his hand as the other man hurried to return the gesture, clasping his own in Wyatt's strong grip.

"My name is Trever, by the way," he added, earning a stern nod from Wyatt as he turned and moved to hold the door open for the man.

"Wyatt," he said as the man walked in.

Of course, he knew that Terver already had his name from the phone call, but formal introductions were important. He didn't feel like phone calls were really a good place to give and receive important personal information. A name was meant to be spoken face to face.

"Oh?"

Hearing Trever's quiet exclamation, Wyatt turned from locking the door, only to watch in honest surprise as Ravi wiggled his way down from the sofa. His legs gave out before they could even pretend to hold his weight, but that didn't deter him. He crawled toward Trever as the guy hurried to sit down.

He made it to the floor and crossed his legs just in time for Ravi to worm his way into his lap and curl up into a tight ball. The guy looked a bit stunned, and also quite unsure of what to do with his hands, since he already knew that Ravi was skittish.

"If he came to you, you can probably pet him. Just watch for any signs of discomfort," Wyatt said as he calmly walked over and sat right next to the other man.

He might have been a bit too close for some, but he was currently Ravi's protector. If him being close bothered Trever in the least, he was more than welcome to pass Ravi over to him.

Dr. Green had been examining Ravi gently while he'd been talking to Trever outside, so it hadn't been too surprising seeing the pup awake.

"I think he fell asleep again," Trever whispered as he gently settled one hand against Ravi's back.

"Is it normal for him to be so hot that I can feel it through his fur?" he asked, looking up at Wyatt with a worried expression that didn't sit quite well with him.

His instincts were normally pretty darn good, and while they weren't sounding any alarms... that face. It was going to take a good bit of time to get used to someone that looks so similar to a man he despised.

The doctor thankfully stepped in as he settled down in front of Trever to further examine Ravi.

"He'll be okay, but no, it's not normal for him to be so hot. He's got a pretty bad cold, but it should clear up as long as he gets the medicine I'm going to prescribe and can keep fluids down."

Wyatt felt his body relax in relief.

"I already gave him some tea and ground turkey. He's keeping it down well so far."

Dr. Green nodded as he finished checking Ravi, then stood up with a tired smile.

"He looks much better than last time, too. Wyatt, thank you for everything you have done for this sweet boy. He has healed up very well and gained quite a bit of weight."

Wyatt noticed Trever lower his head and blink a few extra times as his cousin spoke, but didn't comment on his suddenly-solemn appearance. Instead, he stood and settled his bill with the doctor, then shook his hand as they both looked back down at Trever.

He was about to tell the guy that he could take Ravi now so that he could leave, but the words were caught on his tongue as he watched Trever just-barely brush his fingertips against the slightly dirty scarf that Ravi still had wrapped around himself.

"He doesn't live far from here... if it would be alright with you, perhaps let him stay for a little bit?" Dr. Green asked.

Wyatt stared at Ravi for a short while before shrugging one shoulder.

"I'd be fine with that. After all, I don't think he realizes that Ravi's got a hold of his jacket again," he said, his words making the doctor chuckle at the same time they fell upon Trever's seemingly-deaf ears.

"Don't worry about him. I hadn't told him what his brother had done yet since he travels so much for work and is rarely home, so having learned about it so abruptly the other night was a bit of a shock," the doctor said, then added as he walked toward the door with Wyatt. "He's a sweet guy, I promise. His life is just extremely stressful with all the traveling so I didn't want to make it worse by telling him about his brother. I honestly had planned to keep it secret and just get his brother help when you had stepped in, too."

Wyatt unlocked and opened the door for the man, but couldn't find a smile for him. They had both known what had been going on, to a point, but neither had known how bad it had actually gotten until Ravi had run away to him.

"I understand, sir. I'll look after him until Ravi decides to let him go home," he said, half joking. Trever was an adult, but that didn't mean that he didn't need looking after, as well. He was clearly extremely stressed right now.

The man before him gave one final quiet chuckle before nodding his head in acknowledgement and taking his leave. Wyatt was going to turn right back around and see to the other chores he still had to deal with around the house, then maybe, maybe, he would let himself give Blake a call. He didn't want to be a bother to the guy, and heck, his plane had probably only just landed recently anyway, but still...

Chores first. All of the chores.

Not that there was really all that much to do, but it would keep him distracted long enough... hopefully.

Sighing as a particularly cold gust of wind rustled his hair, he gave a small yawn, then shook his head. Figuring that he had a new houseguest for at least a few hours, he decided to get started on an early dinner. It would give him something extra to do and add more chores, since he could probably unload and load the dishwasher again.

Sounds like a plan.

A plan that would keep him from staring at the number in his phone... for at least a few more hours.
